1 Again the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me, saying|strong="H0559",
2 Son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", speak|strong="H1696" to the children|strong="H1121" of thy people|strong="H5971", and say|strong="H0559" unto them, When I bring|strong="H0935" the sword|strong="H2719" upon a land|strong="H0776", if the people|strong="H5971" of the land|strong="H0776" take|strong="H3947" a|strong="H0259" man|strong="H0376" of their coasts|strong="H7097", and set|strong="H5414" him for their watchman|strong="H6822":
3 If when he seeth|strong="H7200" the sword|strong="H2719" come|strong="H0935" upon the land|strong="H0776", he blow|strong="H8628" the trumpet|strong="H7782", and warn|strong="H2094" the people|strong="H5971";
4 Then whosoever|strong="H8085" heareth|strong="H8085" the sound|strong="H6963" of the trumpet|strong="H7782", and taketh not warning|strong="H2094"; if the sword|strong="H2719" come|strong="H0935", and take him away|strong="H3947", his blood|strong="H1818" shall be upon his own head|strong="H7218".
5 He heard|strong="H8085" the sound|strong="H6963" of the trumpet|strong="H7782", and took not warning|strong="H2094"; his blood|strong="H1818" shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning|strong="H2094" shall deliver|strong="H4422" his soul|strong="H5315".
6 But if the watchman|strong="H6822" see|strong="H7200" the sword|strong="H2719" come|strong="H0935", and blow|strong="H8628" not the trumpet|strong="H7782", and the people|strong="H5971" be not warned|strong="H2094"; if the sword|strong="H2719" come|strong="H0935", and take|strong="H3947" any person|strong="H5315" from among them, he is taken away|strong="H3947" in his iniquity|strong="H5771"; but his blood|strong="H1818" will I require|strong="H1875" at the watchman’s|strong="H6822" hand|strong="H3027".
7 So thou, O son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", I have set|strong="H5414" thee a watchman|strong="H6822" unto the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478"; therefore thou shalt hear|strong="H8085" the word|strong="H1697" at my mouth|strong="H6310", and warn|strong="H2094" them from me.
8 When I say|strong="H0559" unto the wicked|strong="H7563", O wicked|strong="H7563" man, thou shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191"; if thou dost not speak|strong="H1696" to warn|strong="H2094" the wicked|strong="H7563" from his way|strong="H1870", that wicked|strong="H7563" man shall die|strong="H4191" in his iniquity|strong="H5771"; but his blood|strong="H1818" will I require|strong="H1245" at thine hand|strong="H3027".
9 Nevertheless, if thou warn|strong="H2094" the wicked|strong="H7563" of his way|strong="H1870" to turn|strong="H7725" from it; if he do not turn|strong="H7725" from his way|strong="H1870", he shall die|strong="H4191" in his iniquity|strong="H5771"; but thou hast delivered|strong="H5337" thy soul|strong="H5315".
10 Therefore, O thou son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", speak|strong="H0559" unto the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Thus ye speak|strong="H0559", saying|strong="H0559", If our transgressions|strong="H6588" and our sins|strong="H2403" be upon us, and we pine away|strong="H4743" in them, how should we then live|strong="H2421"?
11 Say|strong="H0559" unto them, As I live|strong="H2416", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, I have no pleasure|strong="H2654" in the death|strong="H4194" of the wicked|strong="H7563"; but that the wicked|strong="H7563" turn|strong="H7725" from his way|strong="H1870" and live|strong="H2421": turn|strong="H7725" ye, turn|strong="H7725" ye from your evil|strong="H7451" ways|strong="H1870"; for why will ye die|strong="H4191", O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478"?
12 Therefore, thou son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", say|strong="H0559" unto the children|strong="H1121" of thy people|strong="H5971", The righteousness|strong="H6666" of the righteous|strong="H6662" shall not deliver|strong="H5337" him in the day|strong="H3117" of his transgression|strong="H6588": as for the wickedness|strong="H7564" of the wicked|strong="H7563", he shall not fall|strong="H3782" thereby in the day|strong="H3117" that he turneth|strong="H7725" from his wickedness|strong="H7562"; neither shall the righteous|strong="H6662" be able|strong="H3201" to live|strong="H2421" for his righteousness in the day|strong="H3117" that he sinneth|strong="H2398".
13 When I shall say|strong="H0559" to the righteous|strong="H6662", that he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421"; if he trust|strong="H0982" to his own righteousness|strong="H6666", and commit|strong="H6213" iniquity|strong="H5766", all his righteousnesses|strong="H6666" shall not be remembered|strong="H2142"; but for his iniquity|strong="H5766" that he hath committed|strong="H6213", he shall die|strong="H4191" for it.
14 Again, when I say|strong="H0559" unto the wicked|strong="H7563", Thou shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191"; if he turn|strong="H7725" from his sin|strong="H2403", and do|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666";
15 If the wicked|strong="H7563" restore|strong="H7725" the pledge|strong="H2258", give again|strong="H7999" that he had robbed|strong="H1500", walk|strong="H1980" in the statutes|strong="H2708" of life|strong="H2416", without committing|strong="H6213" iniquity|strong="H5766"; he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421", he shall not die|strong="H4191".
16 None of his sins|strong="H2403" that he hath committed|strong="H2398" shall be mentioned|strong="H2142" unto him: he hath done|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666"; he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421".
17 Yet the children|strong="H1121" of thy people|strong="H5971" say|strong="H0559", The way|strong="H1870" of the Lord|strong="H0136" is not equal|strong="H8505": but as for them, their way|strong="H1870" is not equal|strong="H8505".
18 When the righteous|strong="H6662" turneth|strong="H7725" from his righteousness|strong="H6666", and committeth|strong="H6213" iniquity|strong="H5766", he shall even die|strong="H4191" thereby.
19 But if the wicked|strong="H7563" turn|strong="H7725" from his wickedness|strong="H7564", and do|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666", he shall live|strong="H2421" thereby.
20 Yet ye say|strong="H0559", The way|strong="H1870" of the Lord|strong="H0136" is not equal|strong="H8505". O ye house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", I will judge|strong="H8199" you every one|strong="H0376" after his ways|strong="H1870".
21 And it came to pass in the twelfth|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" of our captivity|strong="H1546", in the tenth|strong="H6224" month, in the fifth|strong="H2568" day of the month|strong="H2320", that one that had escaped|strong="H6412" out of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" came|strong="H0935" unto me, saying|strong="H0559", The city|strong="H5892" is smitten|strong="H5221".
22 Now the hand|strong="H3027" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was upon me in the evening|strong="H6153", afore|strong="H6440" he that was escaped|strong="H6412" came|strong="H0935"; and had opened|strong="H6605" my mouth|strong="H6310", until he came|strong="H0935" to me in the morning|strong="H1242"; and my mouth|strong="H6310" was opened|strong="H6605", and I was no more dumb|strong="H0481".
23 Then the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me, saying|strong="H0559",
24 Son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", they that inhabit|strong="H3427" those wastes|strong="H2723" of the land|strong="H0127" of Israel|strong="H3478" speak|strong="H0559", saying|strong="H0559", Abraham|strong="H0085" was one|strong="H0259", and he inherited|strong="H3423" the land|strong="H0776": but we are many|strong="H7227"; the land|strong="H0776" is given|strong="H5414" us for inheritance|strong="H4181".
25 Wherefore say|strong="H0559" unto them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; Ye eat|strong="H0398" with the blood|strong="H1818", and lift up|strong="H5375" your eyes|strong="H5869" toward your idols|strong="H1544", and shed|strong="H8210" blood|strong="H1818": and shall ye possess|strong="H3423" the land|strong="H0776"?
26 Ye stand|strong="H5975" upon your sword|strong="H2719", ye work|strong="H6213" abomination|strong="H8441", and ye defile|strong="H2930" every one|strong="H0376" his neighbour’s|strong="H7453" wife|strong="H0802": and shall ye possess|strong="H3423" the land|strong="H0776"?
27 Say|strong="H0559" thou thus unto them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; As I live|strong="H2416", surely they that are in the wastes|strong="H2723" shall fall|strong="H5307" by the sword|strong="H2719", and him that is in the open|strong="H6440" field|strong="H7704" will I give|strong="H5414" to the beasts|strong="H2416" to be devoured|strong="H0398", and they that be in the forts|strong="H4679" and in the caves|strong="H4631" shall die|strong="H4191" of the pestilence|strong="H1698".
28 For I will lay|strong="H5414" the land|strong="H0776" most|strong="H4923" desolate|strong="H8077", and the pomp|strong="H1347" of her strength|strong="H5797" shall cease|strong="H7673"; and the mountains|strong="H2022" of Israel|strong="H3478" shall be desolate|strong="H8074", that none shall pass through|strong="H5674".
29 Then shall they know|strong="H3045" that I am the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, when I have laid|strong="H5414" the land|strong="H0776" most|strong="H4923" desolate|strong="H8077" because of all their abominations|strong="H8441" which they have committed|strong="H6213".
30 Also, thou son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", the children|strong="H1121" of thy people|strong="H5971" still are talking|strong="H1696" against|strong="H0681" thee by the walls|strong="H7023" and in the doors|strong="H6607" of the houses|strong="H1004", and speak|strong="H1696" one|strong="H2297" to another|strong="H0259", every one|strong="H0376" to his brother|strong="H0251", saying|strong="H0559", Come|strong="H0935", I pray you, and hear|strong="H8085" what is the word|strong="H1697" that cometh forth|strong="H3318" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
31 And they come|strong="H0935" unto thee as the people|strong="H5971" cometh|strong="H3996", and they sit|strong="H3427" before|strong="H6440" thee as my people|strong="H5971", and they hear|strong="H8085" thy words|strong="H1697", but they will not do|strong="H6213" them: for with their mouth|strong="H6310" they shew|strong="H6213" much love|strong="H5690", but their heart|strong="H3820" goeth|strong="H1980" after|strong="H0310" their covetousness|strong="H1215".
32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely|strong="H5690" song|strong="H7892" of one that hath a pleasant|strong="H3303" voice|strong="H6963", and can play well|strong="H2895" on an instrument|strong="H5059": for they hear|strong="H8085" thy words|strong="H1697", but they do|strong="H6213" them not.
33 And when this cometh to pass|strong="H0935", (lo, it will come|strong="H0935",) then shall they know|strong="H3045" that a prophet|strong="H5030" hath been among|strong="H8432" them.
