1 The word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me again, saying|strong="H0559",
2 What mean ye, that ye use|strong="H4911" this proverb|strong="H4912" concerning the land|strong="H0127" of Israel|strong="H3478", saying|strong="H0559", The fathers|strong="H0001" have eaten|strong="H0398" sour grapes|strong="H1155", and the children’s|strong="H1121" teeth|strong="H8127" are set on edge|strong="H6949"?
3 As I live|strong="H2416", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, ye shall not have occasion any more to use|strong="H4911" this proverb|strong="H4912" in Israel|strong="H3478".
4 Behold, all souls|strong="H5315" are mine; as the soul|strong="H5315" of the father|strong="H0001", so also the soul|strong="H5315" of the son|strong="H1121" is mine: the soul|strong="H5315" that sinneth|strong="H2398", it shall die|strong="H4191".
5 But if a man|strong="H0376" be just|strong="H6662", and do|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666",
6 And hath not eaten|strong="H0398" upon the mountains|strong="H2022", neither hath lifted up|strong="H5375" his eyes|strong="H5869" to the idols|strong="H1544" of the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", neither hath defiled|strong="H2930" his neighbour’s|strong="H7453" wife|strong="H0802", neither hath come near|strong="H7126" to a menstruous|strong="H5079" woman|strong="H0802",
7 And hath not oppressed|strong="H3238" any|strong="H0376", but hath restored|strong="H7725" to the debtor|strong="H2326" his pledge|strong="H2258", hath spoiled|strong="H1497" none by violence|strong="H1500", hath given|strong="H5414" his bread|strong="H3899" to the hungry|strong="H7457", and hath covered|strong="H3680" the naked|strong="H5903" with a garment|strong="H0899";
8 He that hath not given forth|strong="H5414" upon usury|strong="H5392", neither hath taken|strong="H3947" any increase|strong="H8636", that hath withdrawn|strong="H7725" his hand|strong="H3027" from iniquity|strong="H5766", hath executed|strong="H6213" true|strong="H0571" judgment|strong="H4941" between man|strong="H0376" and man|strong="H0376",
9 Hath walked|strong="H1980" in my statutes|strong="H2708", and hath kept|strong="H8104" my judgments|strong="H4941", to deal|strong="H6213" truly|strong="H0571"; he is just|strong="H6662", he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*.
10 If he beget|strong="H3205" a son|strong="H1121" that is a robber|strong="H6530", a shedder|strong="H8210" of blood|strong="H1818", and that doeth|strong="H6213" the like|strong="H0251" to any one|strong="H0259" of these things,
11 And that doeth|strong="H6213" not any of those duties, but even hath eaten|strong="H0398" upon the mountains|strong="H2022", and defiled|strong="H2930" his neighbour’s|strong="H7453" wife|strong="H0802",
12 Hath oppressed|strong="H3238" the poor|strong="H6041" and needy|strong="H0034", hath spoiled|strong="H1497" by violence|strong="H1500", hath not restored|strong="H7725" the pledge|strong="H2258", and hath lifted up|strong="H5375" his eyes|strong="H5869" to the idols|strong="H1544", hath committed|strong="H6213" abomination|strong="H8441",
13 Hath given forth|strong="H5414" upon usury|strong="H5392", and hath taken|strong="H3947" increase|strong="H8636": shall he then live|strong="H2425"? he shall not live|strong="H2421": he hath done|strong="H6213" all these abominations|strong="H8441"; he shall surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191"; his blood|strong="H1818" shall be upon him.
14 Now, lo, if he beget|strong="H3205" a son|strong="H1121", that seeth|strong="H7200" all his father’s|strong="H0001" sins|strong="H2403" which he hath done|strong="H6213", and considereth|strong="H7200", and doeth|strong="H6213" not such like|strong="H2004",
15 That hath not eaten|strong="H0398" upon the mountains|strong="H2022", neither hath lifted up|strong="H5375" his eyes|strong="H5869" to the idols|strong="H1544" of the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", hath not defiled|strong="H2930" his neighbour’s|strong="H7453" wife|strong="H0802",
16 Neither hath oppressed|strong="H3238" any|strong="H0376", hath not withholden|strong="H2254" the pledge|strong="H2258", neither hath spoiled|strong="H1497" by violence|strong="H1500", but hath given|strong="H5414" his bread|strong="H3899" to the hungry|strong="H7457", and hath covered|strong="H3680" the naked|strong="H5903" with a garment|strong="H0899",
17 That hath taken off|strong="H7725" his hand|strong="H3027" from the poor|strong="H6041", that hath not received|strong="H3947" usury|strong="H5392" nor increase|strong="H8636", hath executed|strong="H6213" my judgments|strong="H4941", hath walked|strong="H1980" in my statutes|strong="H2708"; he shall not die|strong="H4191" for the iniquity|strong="H5771" of his father|strong="H0001", he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421".
18 As for his father|strong="H0001", because he cruelly|strong="H6233" oppressed|strong="H6231", spoiled|strong="H1497" his brother|strong="H0251" by violence|strong="H1499", and did|strong="H6213" that which is not good|strong="H2896" among|strong="H8432" his people|strong="H5971", lo, even he shall die|strong="H4191" in his iniquity|strong="H5771".
19 Yet say|strong="H0559" ye, Why? doth not the son|strong="H1121" bear|strong="H5375" the iniquity|strong="H5771" of the father|strong="H0001"? When the son|strong="H1121" hath done|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666", and hath kept|strong="H8104" all my statutes|strong="H2708", and hath done|strong="H6213" them, he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421".
20 The soul|strong="H5315" that sinneth|strong="H2398", it shall die|strong="H4191". The son|strong="H1121" shall not bear|strong="H5375" the iniquity|strong="H5771" of the father|strong="H0001", neither shall the father|strong="H0001" bear|strong="H5375" the iniquity|strong="H5771" of the son|strong="H1121": the righteousness|strong="H6666" of the righteous|strong="H6662" shall be upon him, and the wickedness|strong="H7564" of the wicked|strong="H7563" shall be upon him.
21 But if the wicked|strong="H7563" will turn|strong="H7725" from all his sins|strong="H2403" that he hath committed|strong="H6213", and keep|strong="H8104" all my statutes|strong="H2708", and do|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666", he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421", he shall not die|strong="H4191".
22 All his transgressions|strong="H6588" that he hath committed|strong="H6213", they shall not be mentioned|strong="H2142" unto him: in his righteousness|strong="H6666" that he hath done|strong="H6213" he shall live|strong="H2421".
23 Have I any pleasure|strong="H2654" at all|strong="H2654" that the wicked|strong="H7563" should die|strong="H4194"? saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*: and not that he should return|strong="H7725" from his ways|strong="H1870", and live|strong="H2421"?
24 But when the righteous|strong="H6662" turneth away|strong="H7725" from his righteousness|strong="H6666", and committeth|strong="H6213" iniquity|strong="H5766", and doeth|strong="H6213" according to all the abominations|strong="H8441" that the wicked|strong="H7563" man doeth|strong="H6213", shall he live|strong="H2425"? All his righteousness|strong="H6666" that he hath done|strong="H6213" shall not be mentioned|strong="H2142": in his trespass|strong="H4603" that he hath trespassed|strong="H4604", and in his sin|strong="H2403" that he hath sinned|strong="H2398", in them shall he die|strong="H4191".
25 Yet ye say|strong="H0559", The way|strong="H1870" of the Lord|strong="H0136" is not equal|strong="H8505". Hear|strong="H8085" now, O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Is not my way|strong="H1870" equal|strong="H8505"? are not your ways|strong="H1870" unequal|strong="H8505"?
26 When a righteous|strong="H6662" man turneth away|strong="H7725" from his righteousness|strong="H6666", and committeth|strong="H6213" iniquity|strong="H5766", and dieth|strong="H4191" in them; for his iniquity|strong="H5766" that he hath done|strong="H6213" shall he die|strong="H4191".
27 Again, when the wicked|strong="H7563" man turneth away|strong="H7725" from his wickedness|strong="H7564" that he hath committed|strong="H6213", and doeth|strong="H6213" that which is lawful|strong="H4941" and right|strong="H6666", he shall save|strong="H2421" his soul|strong="H5315" alive|strong="H2421".
28 Because he considereth|strong="H7200", and turneth away|strong="H7725" from all his transgressions|strong="H6588" that he hath committed|strong="H6213", he shall surely|strong="H2421" live|strong="H2421", he shall not die|strong="H4191".
29 Yet saith|strong="H0559" the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", The way|strong="H1870" of the Lord|strong="H0136" is not equal|strong="H8505". O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", are not my ways|strong="H1870" equal|strong="H8505"? are not your ways|strong="H1870" unequal|strong="H8505"?
30 Therefore I will judge|strong="H8199" you, O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", every one|strong="H0376" according to his ways|strong="H1870", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*. Repent|strong="H7725", and turn|strong="H7725" yourselves from all your transgressions|strong="H6588"; so iniquity|strong="H5771" shall not be your ruin|strong="H4383".
31 Cast away|strong="H7993" from you all your transgressions|strong="H6588", whereby ye have transgressed|strong="H6586"; and make|strong="H6213" you a new|strong="H2319" heart|strong="H3820" and a new|strong="H2319" spirit|strong="H7307": for why will ye die|strong="H4191", O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478"?
32 For I have no pleasure|strong="H2654" in the death|strong="H4194" of him that dieth|strong="H4191", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*: wherefore turn|strong="H7725" yourselves, and live|strong="H2421" ye.
