1 And the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me, saying|strong="H0559",
2 Son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", put forth|strong="H2330" a riddle|strong="H2420", and speak|strong="H4911" a parable|strong="H4912" unto the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478";
3 And say|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; A great|strong="H1419" eagle|strong="H5404" with great|strong="H1419" wings|strong="H3671", longwinged|strong="H0083", full|strong="H4392" of feathers|strong="H5133", which had divers colours|strong="H7553", came|strong="H0935" unto Lebanon|strong="H3844", and took|strong="H3947" the highest branch|strong="H6788" of the cedar|strong="H0730":
4 He cropped off|strong="H6998" the top|strong="H7218" of his young twigs|strong="H3242", and carried|strong="H0935" it into a land|strong="H0776" of traffick|strong="H3667"; he set|strong="H7760" it in a city|strong="H5892" of merchants|strong="H7402".
5 He took|strong="H3947" also of the seed|strong="H2233" of the land|strong="H0776", and planted|strong="H5414" it in a fruitful|strong="H2233" field|strong="H7704"; he placed|strong="H3947" it by great|strong="H7227" waters|strong="H4325", and set|strong="H7760" it as a willow tree|strong="H6851".
6 And it grew|strong="H6779", and became a spreading|strong="H5628" vine|strong="H1612" of low|strong="H8217" stature|strong="H6967", whose branches|strong="H1808" turned|strong="H6437" toward him, and the roots|strong="H8328" thereof were under him: so it became a vine|strong="H1612", and brought forth|strong="H6213" branches|strong="H0905", and shot|strong="H7971" forth sprigs|strong="H6288".
7 There was also another|strong="H0259" great|strong="H1419" eagle|strong="H5404" with great|strong="H1419" wings|strong="H3671" and many|strong="H7227" feathers|strong="H5133": and, behold, this vine|strong="H1612" did bend|strong="H3719" her roots|strong="H8328" toward him, and shot forth|strong="H7971" her branches|strong="H1808" toward him, that he might water|strong="H8248" it by the furrows|strong="H6170" of her plantation|strong="H4302".
8 It was planted|strong="H8362" in a good|strong="H2896" soil|strong="H7704" by great|strong="H7227" waters|strong="H4325", that it might bring forth|strong="H6213" branches|strong="H6057", and that it might bear|strong="H5375" fruit|strong="H6529", that it might be a goodly|strong="H0155" vine|strong="H1612".
9 Say|strong="H0559" thou, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; Shall it prosper|strong="H6743"? shall he not pull up|strong="H5423" the roots|strong="H8328" thereof, and cut off|strong="H7082" the fruit|strong="H6529" thereof, that it wither|strong="H3001"? it shall wither|strong="H3001" in all the leaves|strong="H2964" of her spring|strong="H6780", even without great|strong="H1419" power|strong="H2220" or many|strong="H7227" people|strong="H5971" to pluck it up|strong="H5375" by the roots|strong="H8328" thereof.
10 Yea, behold, being planted|strong="H8362", shall it prosper|strong="H6743"? shall it not utterly|strong="H3001" wither|strong="H3001", when the east|strong="H6921" wind|strong="H7307" toucheth|strong="H5060" it? it shall wither|strong="H3001" in the furrows|strong="H6170" where it grew|strong="H6780".
11 Moreover the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me, saying|strong="H0559",
12 Say|strong="H0559" now to the rebellious|strong="H4805" house|strong="H1004", Know|strong="H3045" ye not what these things mean? tell|strong="H0559" them, Behold, the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" is come|strong="H0935" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and hath taken|strong="H3947" the king|strong="H4428" thereof, and the princes|strong="H8269" thereof, and led|strong="H0935" them with him to Babylon|strong="H0894";
13 And hath taken|strong="H3947" of the king’s|strong="H4410" seed|strong="H2233", and made|strong="H3772" a covenant|strong="H1285" with him, and hath taken|strong="H0935" an oath|strong="H0423" of him: he hath also taken|strong="H3947" the mighty|strong="H0352" of the land|strong="H0776":
14 That the kingdom|strong="H4467" might be base|strong="H8217", that it might not lift itself up|strong="H5375", but that by keeping|strong="H8104" of his covenant|strong="H1285" it might stand|strong="H5975".
15 But he rebelled|strong="H4775" against him in sending|strong="H7971" his ambassadors|strong="H4397" into Egypt|strong="H4714", that they might give|strong="H5414" him horses|strong="H5483" and much|strong="H7227" people|strong="H5971". Shall he prosper|strong="H6743"? shall he escape|strong="H4422" that doeth|strong="H6213" such things? or shall he break|strong="H6565" the covenant|strong="H1285", and be delivered|strong="H4422"?
16 As I live|strong="H2416", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, surely in the place|strong="H4725" where the king|strong="H4428" dwelleth that made him king|strong="H4427", whose oath|strong="H0423" he despised|strong="H0959", and whose covenant|strong="H1285" he brake|strong="H6565", even with him in the midst|strong="H8432" of Babylon|strong="H0894" he shall die|strong="H4191".
17 Neither shall Pharaoh|strong="H6547" with his mighty|strong="H1419" army|strong="H2428" and great|strong="H7227" company|strong="H6951" make|strong="H6213" for him in the war|strong="H4421", by casting up|strong="H8210" mounts|strong="H5550", and building|strong="H1129" forts|strong="H1785", to cut off|strong="H3772" many|strong="H7227" persons|strong="H5315":
18 Seeing he despised|strong="H0959" the oath|strong="H0423" by breaking|strong="H6565" the covenant|strong="H1285", when, lo, he had given|strong="H5414" his hand|strong="H3027", and hath done|strong="H6213" all these things, he shall not escape|strong="H4422".
19 Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; As I live|strong="H2416", surely mine oath|strong="H0423" that he hath despised|strong="H0959", and my covenant|strong="H1285" that he hath broken|strong="H6331", even it will I recompense|strong="H5414" upon his own head|strong="H7218".
20 And I will spread|strong="H6566" my net|strong="H7568" upon him, and he shall be taken|strong="H8610" in my snare|strong="H4686", and I will bring|strong="H0935" him to Babylon|strong="H0894", and will plead|strong="H8199" with him there for his trespass|strong="H4603" that he hath trespassed|strong="H4604" against me.
21 And all his fugitives|strong="H4015" with all his bands|strong="H0102" shall fall|strong="H5307" by the sword|strong="H2719", and they that remain|strong="H7604" shall be scattered|strong="H6566" toward all winds|strong="H7307": and ye shall know|strong="H3045" that I the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* have spoken|strong="H1696" it.
22 Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; I will also take|strong="H3947" of the highest branch|strong="H6788" of the high|strong="H7311" cedar|strong="H0730", and will set|strong="H5414" it; I will crop off|strong="H6998" from the top|strong="H7218" of his young twigs|strong="H3127" a tender one|strong="H7390", and will plant|strong="H8362" it upon an high|strong="H1364" mountain|strong="H2022" and eminent|strong="H8524":
23 In the mountain|strong="H2022" of the height|strong="H4791" of Israel|strong="H3478" will I plant|strong="H8362" it: and it shall bring forth|strong="H5375" boughs|strong="H6057", and bear|strong="H6213" fruit|strong="H6529", and be a goodly|strong="H0117" cedar|strong="H0730": and under it shall dwell|strong="H7931" all fowl|strong="H6833" of every wing|strong="H3671"; in the shadow|strong="H6738" of the branches|strong="H1808" thereof shall they dwell|strong="H7931".
24 And all the trees|strong="H6086" of the field|strong="H7704" shall know|strong="H3045" that I the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* have brought down|strong="H8213" the high|strong="H1364" tree|strong="H6086", have exalted|strong="H1361" the low|strong="H8217" tree|strong="H6086", have dried|strong="H3001" up the green|strong="H3892" tree|strong="H6086", and have made the dry|strong="H3002" tree|strong="H6086" to flourish|strong="H6524": I the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* have spoken|strong="H1696" and have done|strong="H6213" it.
