Ezequiel 16

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Again the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto me, saying|strong="H0559",

Son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120", cause Jerusalem|strong="H3389" to know|strong="H3045" her abominations|strong="H8441",

And say|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w* unto Jerusalem|strong="H3389"; Thy birth|strong="H4351" and thy nativity|strong="H4138" is of the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3669"; thy father|strong="H0001" was an Amorite|strong="H0567", and thy mother|strong="H0517" an Hittite|strong="H2850".

And as for thy nativity|strong="H4138", in the day|strong="H3117" thou wast born|strong="H3205" thy navel|strong="H8270" was not cut|strong="H3772", neither wast thou washed|strong="H7364" in water|strong="H4325" to supple|strong="H4935" thee; thou wast not salted|strong="H4414" at all|strong="H4414", nor swaddled|strong="H2853" at all|strong="H2853".

None eye|strong="H5869" pitied|strong="H2347" thee, to do|strong="H6213" any|strong="H0259" of these unto thee, to have compassion|strong="H2550" upon thee; but thou wast cast out|strong="H7993" in the open|strong="H6440" field|strong="H7704", to the lothing|strong="H1604" of thy person|strong="H5315", in the day|strong="H3117" that thou wast born|strong="H3205".

And when I passed|strong="H5674" by thee, and saw|strong="H7200" thee polluted|strong="H0947" in thine own blood|strong="H1818", I said|strong="H0559" unto thee when thou wast in thy blood|strong="H1818", Live|strong="H2421"; yea, I said|strong="H0559" unto thee when thou wast in thy blood|strong="H1818", Live|strong="H2421".

I have caused|strong="H5414" thee to multiply|strong="H7233" as the bud|strong="H6780" of the field|strong="H7704", and thou hast increased|strong="H7235" and waxen great|strong="H1431", and thou art come|strong="H0935" to excellent|strong="H5716" ornaments|strong="H5716": thy breasts|strong="H7699" are fashioned|strong="H3559", and thine hair|strong="H8181" is grown|strong="H6779", whereas thou wast naked|strong="H5903" and bare|strong="H6181".

Now when I passed|strong="H5674" by thee, and looked|strong="H7200" upon thee, behold, thy time|strong="H6256" was the time|strong="H6256" of love|strong="H1730"; and I spread|strong="H6566" my skirt|strong="H3671" over thee, and covered|strong="H3680" thy nakedness|strong="H6172": yea, I sware|strong="H7650" unto thee, and entered|strong="H0935" into a covenant|strong="H1285" with thee, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, and thou becamest mine.

Then washed|strong="H7364" I thee with water|strong="H4325"; yea, I throughly washed away|strong="H7857" thy blood|strong="H1818" from thee, and I anointed|strong="H5480" thee with oil|strong="H8081".

I clothed|strong="H3847" thee also with broidered work|strong="H7553", and shod|strong="H5274" thee with badgers’ skin|strong="H8476", and I girded|strong="H2280" thee about with fine linen|strong="H8336", and I covered|strong="H3680" thee with silk|strong="H4897".

I decked|strong="H5710" thee also with ornaments|strong="H5716", and I put|strong="H5414" bracelets|strong="H6781" upon thy hands|strong="H3027", and a chain|strong="H7242" on thy neck|strong="H1627".

And I put|strong="H5414" a jewel|strong="H5141" on thy forehead|strong="H0639", and earrings|strong="H5694" in thine ears|strong="H0241", and a beautiful|strong="H8597" crown|strong="H5850" upon thine head|strong="H7218".

Thus wast thou decked|strong="H5710" with gold|strong="H2091" and silver|strong="H3701"; and thy raiment|strong="H4403" was of fine linen|strong="H8336", and silk|strong="H4897", and broidered work|strong="H7553"; thou didst eat|strong="H0398" fine flour|strong="H5560", and honey|strong="H1706", and oil|strong="H8081": and thou wast exceeding|strong="H3966" beautiful|strong="H3302", and thou didst prosper|strong="H6743" into a kingdom|strong="H4410".

And thy renown|strong="H8034" went forth|strong="H3318" among the heathen|strong="H1471" for thy beauty|strong="H3308": for it was perfect|strong="H3632" through my comeliness|strong="H1926", which I had put|strong="H7760" upon thee, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*.

But thou didst trust|strong="H0982" in thine own beauty|strong="H3308", and playedst the harlot|strong="H2181" because of thy renown|strong="H8034", and pouredst out|strong="H8210" thy fornications|strong="H8457" on every one that passed by|strong="H5674"; his it was.

And of thy garments|strong="H0899" thou didst take|strong="H3947", and deckedst|strong="H6213" thy high places|strong="H1116" with divers colours|strong="H2921", and playedst the harlot|strong="H2181" thereupon: the like things shall not come|strong="H0935", neither shall it be so.

Thou hast also taken|strong="H3947" thy fair|strong="H8597" jewels|strong="H3627" of my gold|strong="H2091" and of my silver|strong="H3701", which I had given|strong="H5414" thee, and madest|strong="H6213" to thyself images|strong="H6754" of men|strong="H2145", and didst commit whoredom|strong="H2181" with them,

And tookest|strong="H3947" thy broidered|strong="H7553" garments|strong="H0899", and coveredst|strong="H3680" them: and thou hast set|strong="H5414" mine oil|strong="H8081" and mine incense|strong="H7004" before|strong="H6440" them.

My meat|strong="H3899" also which I gave|strong="H5414" thee, fine flour|strong="H5560", and oil|strong="H8081", and honey|strong="H1706", wherewith I fed|strong="H0398" thee, thou hast even set|strong="H5414" it before|strong="H6440" them for a sweet|strong="H5207" savour|strong="H7381": and thus it was, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*.

Moreover thou hast taken|strong="H3947" thy sons|strong="H1121" and thy daughters|strong="H1323", whom thou hast borne|strong="H3205" unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed|strong="H2076" unto them to be devoured|strong="H0398". Is this of thy whoredoms|strong="H8457" a small matter|strong="H4592",

That thou hast slain|strong="H7819" my children|strong="H1121", and delivered|strong="H5414" them to cause them to pass through|strong="H5674" the fire for them?

And in all thine abominations|strong="H8441" and thy whoredoms|strong="H8457" thou hast not remembered|strong="H2142" the days|strong="H3117" of thy youth|strong="H5271", when thou wast naked|strong="H5903" and bare|strong="H6181", and wast polluted|strong="H0947" in thy blood|strong="H1818".

And it came to pass after|strong="H0310" all thy wickedness|strong="H7451", (woe|strong="H0188", woe|strong="H0188" unto thee! saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*;)

That thou hast also built|strong="H1129" unto thee an eminent place|strong="H1354", and hast made|strong="H6213" thee an high place|strong="H7413" in every street|strong="H7339".

Thou hast built|strong="H1129" thy high place|strong="H7413" at every head|strong="H7218" of the way|strong="H1870", and hast made thy beauty|strong="H3308" to be abhorred|strong="H8581", and hast opened|strong="H6589" thy feet|strong="H7272" to every one that passed by|strong="H5674", and multiplied|strong="H7235" thy whoredoms|strong="H8457".

Thou hast also committed fornication|strong="H2181" with the Egyptians|strong="H1121" thy neighbours|strong="H7934", great|strong="H1432" of flesh|strong="H1320"; and hast increased|strong="H7235" thy whoredoms|strong="H8457", to provoke me to anger|strong="H3707".

Behold, therefore I have stretched out|strong="H5186" my hand|strong="H3027" over thee, and have diminished|strong="H1639" thine ordinary|strong="H2706" food, and delivered|strong="H5414" thee unto the will|strong="H5315" of them that hate|strong="H8130" thee, the daughters|strong="H1323" of the Philistines|strong="H6430", which are ashamed|strong="H3637" of thy lewd|strong="H2154" way|strong="H1870".

Thou hast played the whore|strong="H2181" also with the Assyrians|strong="H1121", because|strong="H1115" thou wast unsatiable|strong="H7646"; yea, thou hast played the harlot|strong="H2181" with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied|strong="H7654".

Thou hast moreover multiplied|strong="H7235" thy fornication|strong="H8457" in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667" unto Chaldea|strong="H3778"; and yet thou wast not satisfied|strong="H7646" herewith|strong="H2063".

How weak|strong="H0535" is thine heart|strong="H3826", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, seeing thou doest|strong="H6213" all these things, the work|strong="H4639" of an imperious|strong="H7986" whorish|strong="H2181" woman|strong="H0802";

In that thou buildest|strong="H1129" thine eminent place|strong="H1354" in the head|strong="H7218" of every way|strong="H1870", and makest|strong="H6213" thine high place|strong="H7413" in every street|strong="H7339"; and hast not been as an harlot|strong="H2181", in that thou scornest|strong="H7046" hire|strong="H0868";

But as a wife|strong="H0802" that committeth adultery|strong="H5003", which taketh|strong="H3947" strangers|strong="H2114" instead of her husband|strong="H0376"!

They give|strong="H5414" gifts|strong="H5078" to all whores|strong="H2181": but thou givest|strong="H5414" thy gifts|strong="H5083" to all thy lovers|strong="H0157", and hirest|strong="H7809" them, that they may come|strong="H0935" unto thee on every side|strong="H5439" for thy whoredom|strong="H8457".

And the contrary|strong="H2016" is in thee from other women|strong="H0802" in thy whoredoms|strong="H8457", whereas none followeth|strong="H0310" thee to commit whoredoms|strong="H2181": and in that thou givest|strong="H5414" a reward|strong="H0868", and no reward|strong="H0868" is given|strong="H5414" unto thee, therefore thou art|strong="H1961" contrary|strong="H2016".

Wherefore, O harlot|strong="H2181", hear|strong="H8085" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*:

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; Because thy filthiness|strong="H5178" was poured out|strong="H8210", and thy nakedness|strong="H6172" discovered|strong="H1540" through thy whoredoms|strong="H8457" with thy lovers|strong="H0157", and with all the idols|strong="H1544" of thy abominations|strong="H8441", and by the blood|strong="H1818" of thy children|strong="H1121", which thou didst give|strong="H5414" unto them;

Behold, therefore I will gather|strong="H6908" all thy lovers|strong="H0157", with whom thou hast taken pleasure|strong="H6149", and all them that thou hast loved|strong="H0157", with all them that thou hast hated|strong="H8130"; I will even gather|strong="H6908" them round about|strong="H5439" against thee, and will discover|strong="H1540" thy nakedness|strong="H6172" unto them, that they may see|strong="H7200" all thy nakedness|strong="H6172".

And I will judge|strong="H8199" thee, as women that break wedlock|strong="H5003" and shed|strong="H8210" blood|strong="H1818" are judged|strong="H4941"; and I will give|strong="H5414" thee blood|strong="H1818" in fury|strong="H2534" and jealousy|strong="H7068".

And I will also give|strong="H5414" thee into their hand|strong="H3027", and they shall throw down|strong="H2040" thine eminent place|strong="H1354", and shall break down|strong="H5422" thy high places|strong="H7413": they shall strip|strong="H6584" thee also of thy clothes|strong="H0899", and shall take|strong="H3947" thy fair|strong="H8597" jewels|strong="H3627", and leave|strong="H3240" thee naked|strong="H5903" and bare|strong="H6181".

They shall also bring up|strong="H5927" a company|strong="H6951" against thee, and they shall stone|strong="H7275" thee with stones|strong="H0068", and thrust thee through|strong="H1333" with their swords|strong="H2719".

And they shall burn|strong="H8313" thine houses|strong="H1004" with fire|strong="H0784", and execute|strong="H6213" judgments|strong="H8201" upon thee in the sight|strong="H5869" of many|strong="H7227" women|strong="H0802": and I will cause thee to cease|strong="H7673" from playing the harlot|strong="H2181", and thou also shalt give|strong="H5414" no hire|strong="H0868" any more.

So will I make my fury|strong="H2534" toward thee to rest|strong="H5117", and my jealousy|strong="H7068" shall depart|strong="H5493" from thee, and I will be quiet|strong="H8252", and will be no more angry|strong="H3707".

Because thou hast not remembered|strong="H2142" the days|strong="H3117" of thy youth|strong="H5271", but hast fretted|strong="H7264" me in all these things; behold|strong="H1887", therefore I also will recompense|strong="H5414" thy way|strong="H1870" upon thine head|strong="H7218", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*: and thou shalt not commit|strong="H6213" this lewdness|strong="H2154" above all thine abominations|strong="H8441".

Behold, every one that useth proverbs|strong="H4911" shall use this proverb|strong="H4911" against thee, saying|strong="H0559", As is the mother|strong="H0517", so is her daughter|strong="H1323".

Thou art thy mother’s|strong="H0517" daughter|strong="H1323", that lotheth|strong="H1602" her husband|strong="H0376" and her children|strong="H1121"; and thou art the sister|strong="H0269" of thy sisters|strong="H0269", which lothed|strong="H1602" their husbands|strong="H0582" and their children|strong="H1121": your mother|strong="H0517" was an Hittite|strong="H2850", and your father|strong="H0001" an Amorite|strong="H0567".

And thine elder|strong="H1419" sister|strong="H0269" is Samaria|strong="H8111", she and her daughters|strong="H1323" that dwell|strong="H3427" at thy left hand|strong="H8040": and thy younger|strong="H6996" sister|strong="H0269", that dwelleth|strong="H3427" at thy right hand|strong="H3225", is Sodom|strong="H5467" and her daughters|strong="H1323".

Yet hast thou not walked|strong="H1980" after their ways|strong="H1870", nor done|strong="H6213" after their abominations|strong="H8441": but, as if that were a very|strong="H6985" little|strong="H4592" thing, thou wast corrupted|strong="H7843" more than they|strong="H2004" in all thy ways|strong="H1870".

As I live|strong="H2416", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*, Sodom|strong="H5467" thy sister|strong="H0269" hath not done|strong="H6213", she nor her daughters|strong="H1323", as thou hast done|strong="H6213", thou and thy daughters|strong="H1323".

Behold, this was the iniquity|strong="H5771" of thy sister|strong="H0269" Sodom|strong="H5467", pride|strong="H1347", fulness|strong="H7653" of bread|strong="H3899", and abundance|strong="H7962" of idleness|strong="H8252" was in her and in her daughters|strong="H1323", neither did she strengthen|strong="H2388" the hand|strong="H3027" of the poor|strong="H6041" and needy|strong="H0034".

And they were haughty|strong="H1361", and committed|strong="H6213" abomination|strong="H8441" before|strong="H6440" me: therefore I took them away|strong="H5493" as I saw|strong="H7200" good.

Neither hath Samaria|strong="H8111" committed|strong="H2398" half|strong="H2677" of thy sins|strong="H2403"; but thou hast multiplied|strong="H7235" thine abominations|strong="H8441" more than they|strong="H2007", and hast justified|strong="H6663" thy sisters|strong="H0269" in all thine abominations|strong="H8441" which thou hast done|strong="H6213".

Thou also, which hast judged|strong="H6419" thy sisters|strong="H0269", bear|strong="H5375" thine own shame|strong="H3639" for thy sins|strong="H2403" that thou hast committed more abominable|strong="H8581" than they|strong="H2004": they are more righteous|strong="H6663" than thou: yea, be thou confounded|strong="H0954" also, and bear|strong="H5375" thy shame|strong="H3639", in that thou hast justified|strong="H6663" thy sisters|strong="H0269".

When I shall bring again|strong="H7725" their captivity|strong="H7622", the captivity|strong="H7622" of Sodom|strong="H5467" and her daughters|strong="H1323", and the captivity|strong="H7622" of Samaria|strong="H8111" and her daughters|strong="H1323", then will I bring again the captivity|strong="H7622" of thy captives|strong="H7622" in the midst|strong="H8432" of them:

That thou mayest bear|strong="H5375" thine own shame|strong="H3639", and mayest be confounded|strong="H3637" in all that thou hast done|strong="H6213", in that thou art a comfort|strong="H5162" unto them.

When thy sisters|strong="H0269", Sodom|strong="H5467" and her daughters|strong="H1323", shall return|strong="H7725" to their former estate|strong="H6927", and Samaria|strong="H8111" and her daughters|strong="H1323" shall return|strong="H7725" to their former estate|strong="H6927", then thou and thy daughters|strong="H1323" shall return|strong="H7725" to your former estate|strong="H6927".

For thy sister|strong="H0269" Sodom|strong="H5467" was not mentioned|strong="H8052" by thy mouth|strong="H6310" in the day|strong="H3117" of thy pride|strong="H1347",

Before thy wickedness|strong="H7451" was discovered|strong="H1540", as at the time|strong="H6256" of thy reproach|strong="H2781" of the daughters|strong="H1323" of Syria|strong="H0758", and all that are round about|strong="H5439" her, the daughters|strong="H1323" of the Philistines|strong="H6430", which despise|strong="H7590" thee round about|strong="H5439".

Thou hast borne|strong="H5375" thy lewdness|strong="H2154" and thine abominations|strong="H8441", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

For thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*; I will even deal|strong="H6213" with thee as thou hast done|strong="H6213", which hast despised|strong="H0959" the oath|strong="H0423" in breaking|strong="H6565" the covenant|strong="H1285".

Nevertheless I will remember|strong="H2142" my covenant|strong="H1285" with thee in the days|strong="H3117" of thy youth|strong="H5271", and I will establish|strong="H6965" unto thee an everlasting|strong="H5769" covenant|strong="H1285".

Then thou shalt remember|strong="H2142" thy ways|strong="H1870", and be ashamed|strong="H3637", when thou shalt receive|strong="H3947" thy sisters|strong="H0269", thine elder|strong="H1419" and thy younger|strong="H6996": and I will give|strong="H5414" them unto thee for daughters|strong="H1323", but not by thy covenant|strong="H1285".

And I will establish|strong="H6965" my covenant|strong="H1285" with thee; and thou shalt know|strong="H3045" that I am the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*:

That thou mayest remember|strong="H2142", and be confounded|strong="H0954", and never open|strong="H6610" thy mouth|strong="H6310" any more because|strong="H6440" of thy shame|strong="H3639", when I am pacified|strong="H3722" toward thee for all that thou hast done|strong="H6213", saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*.
