Ester 9

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Now in the twelfth|strong="H8147" month|strong="H2320", that is, the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143", on the thirteenth|strong="H7969" day|strong="H3117" of the same, when the king’s|strong="H4428" commandment|strong="H1697" and his decree|strong="H1881" drew near|strong="H5060" to be put in execution|strong="H6213", in the day|strong="H3117" that the enemies|strong="H0341" of the Jews|strong="H3064" hoped|strong="H7663" to have power|strong="H7980" over them, (though it was turned|strong="H2015" to the contrary, that the Jews|strong="H3064" had rule|strong="H7980" over them that hated|strong="H8130" them;)

The Jews|strong="H3064" gathered themselves together|strong="H6950" in their cities|strong="H5892" throughout all the provinces|strong="H4082" of the king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus|strong="H0325", to lay|strong="H7971" hand|strong="H3027" on such as sought|strong="H1245" their hurt|strong="H7451": and no man|strong="H0376" could withstand|strong="H5975" them|strong="H6440"; for the fear|strong="H6343" of them fell|strong="H5307" upon all people|strong="H5971".

And all the rulers|strong="H8269" of the provinces|strong="H4082", and the lieutenants|strong="H0323", and the deputies|strong="H6346", and officers|strong="H6213" of the king|strong="H4428", helped|strong="H5375" the Jews|strong="H3064"; because the fear|strong="H6343" of Mordecai|strong="H4782" fell|strong="H5307" upon them.

For Mordecai|strong="H4782" was great|strong="H1419" in the king’s|strong="H4428" house|strong="H1004", and his fame|strong="H8089" went out|strong="H1980" throughout all the provinces|strong="H4082": for this man|strong="H0376" Mordecai|strong="H4782" waxed|strong="H1980" greater and greater|strong="H1419".

Thus the Jews|strong="H3064" smote|strong="H5221" all their enemies|strong="H0341" with the stroke|strong="H4347" of the sword|strong="H2719", and slaughter|strong="H2027", and destruction|strong="H0012", and did|strong="H6213" what they would|strong="H7522" unto those that hated|strong="H8130" them.

And in Shushan|strong="H7800" the palace|strong="H1002" the Jews|strong="H3064" slew|strong="H2026" and destroyed|strong="H0006" five|strong="H2568" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376".

And Parshandatha|strong="H6577", and Dalphon|strong="H1813", and Aspatha|strong="H0630",

And Poratha|strong="H6334", and Adalia|strong="H0118", and Aridatha|strong="H0743",

And Parmashta|strong="H6534", and Arisai|strong="H0747", and Aridai|strong="H0742", and Vajezatha|strong="H2055",

The ten|strong="H6235" sons|strong="H1121" of Haman|strong="H2001" the son|strong="H1121" of Hammedatha|strong="H4099", the enemy|strong="H6887" of the Jews|strong="H3064", slew|strong="H2026" they; but on the spoil|strong="H0961" laid|strong="H7971" they not their hand|strong="H3027".

On that day|strong="H3117" the number|strong="H4557" of those that were slain|strong="H2026" in Shushan|strong="H7800" the palace|strong="H1002" was brought|strong="H0935" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428".

And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" unto Esther|strong="H0635" the queen|strong="H4436", The Jews|strong="H3064" have slain|strong="H2026" and destroyed|strong="H0006" five|strong="H2568" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" in Shushan|strong="H7800" the palace|strong="H1002", and the ten|strong="H6235" sons|strong="H1121" of Haman|strong="H2001"; what have they done|strong="H6213" in the rest|strong="H7605" of the king’s|strong="H4428" provinces|strong="H4082"? now what is thy petition|strong="H7596"? and it shall be granted|strong="H5414" thee: or what is thy request|strong="H1246" further|strong="H5750"? and it shall be done|strong="H6213".

Then said|strong="H0559" Esther|strong="H0635", If it please|strong="H2896" the king|strong="H4428", let it be granted|strong="H5414" to the Jews|strong="H3064" which are in Shushan|strong="H7800" to do|strong="H6213" to morrow|strong="H4279" also according unto this day’s|strong="H3117" decree|strong="H1881", and let Haman’s|strong="H2001" ten|strong="H6235" sons|strong="H1121" be hanged|strong="H8518" upon the gallows|strong="H6086".

And the king|strong="H4428" commanded|strong="H0559" it so to be done|strong="H6213": and the decree|strong="H1881" was given|strong="H5414" at Shushan|strong="H7800"; and they hanged|strong="H8518" Haman’s|strong="H2001" ten|strong="H6235" sons|strong="H1121".

For the Jews|strong="H3064" that were in Shushan|strong="H7800" gathered themselves together|strong="H6950" on the fourteenth|strong="H0702" day|strong="H3117" also of the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143", and slew|strong="H2026" three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" at Shushan|strong="H7800"; but on the prey|strong="H0961" they laid|strong="H7971" not their hand|strong="H3027".

But the other|strong="H7605" Jews|strong="H3064" that were in the king’s|strong="H4428" provinces|strong="H4082" gathered themselves together|strong="H6950", and stood|strong="H5975" for their lives|strong="H5315", and had rest|strong="H5118" from their enemies|strong="H0341", and slew|strong="H2026" of their foes|strong="H8130" seventy|strong="H7657" and five|strong="H2568" thousand|strong="H0505", but they laid|strong="H7971" not their hands|strong="H3027" on the prey|strong="H0961",

On the thirteenth|strong="H7969" day|strong="H3117" of the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143"; and on the fourteenth|strong="H0702" day of the same rested|strong="H5118" they, and made|strong="H6213" it a day|strong="H3117" of feasting|strong="H4960" and gladness|strong="H8057".

But the Jews|strong="H3064" that were at Shushan|strong="H7800" assembled together|strong="H6950" on the thirteenth|strong="H7969" day thereof, and on the fourteenth|strong="H0702" thereof; and on the fifteenth|strong="H2568" day of the same they rested|strong="H5118", and made|strong="H6213" it a day|strong="H3117" of feasting|strong="H4960" and gladness|strong="H8057".

Therefore the Jews|strong="H3064" of the villages|strong="H6521", that dwelt|strong="H3427" in the unwalled|strong="H6519" towns|strong="H5892", made|strong="H6213" the fourteenth|strong="H0702" day|strong="H3117" of the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143" a day of gladness|strong="H8057" and feasting|strong="H4960", and a good|strong="H2896" day|strong="H3117", and of sending|strong="H4916" portions|strong="H4490" one|strong="H0376" to another|strong="H7453".

And Mordecai|strong="H4782" wrote|strong="H3789" these things|strong="H1697", and sent|strong="H7971" letters|strong="H5612" unto all the Jews|strong="H3064" that were in all the provinces|strong="H4082" of the king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus|strong="H0325", both nigh|strong="H7138" and far|strong="H7350",

To stablish|strong="H6965" this among them, that they should keep|strong="H6213" the fourteenth|strong="H0702" day|strong="H3117" of the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143", and the fifteenth|strong="H2568" day|strong="H3117" of the same, yearly|strong="H8141",

As the days|strong="H3117" wherein the Jews|strong="H3064" rested|strong="H5117" from their enemies|strong="H0341", and the month|strong="H2320" which was turned|strong="H2015" unto them from sorrow|strong="H3015" to joy|strong="H8057", and from mourning|strong="H0060" into a good|strong="H2896" day|strong="H3117": that they should make|strong="H6213" them days|strong="H3117" of feasting|strong="H4960" and joy|strong="H8057", and of sending|strong="H4916" portions|strong="H4490" one|strong="H0376" to another|strong="H7453", and gifts|strong="H4979" to the poor|strong="H0034".

And the Jews|strong="H3064" undertook|strong="H6901" to do|strong="H6213" as they had begun|strong="H2490", and as Mordecai|strong="H4782" had written|strong="H3789" unto them;

Because Haman|strong="H2001" the son|strong="H1121" of Hammedatha|strong="H4099", the Agagite|strong="H0091", the enemy|strong="H6887" of all the Jews|strong="H3064", had devised|strong="H2803" against the Jews|strong="H3064" to destroy|strong="H0006" them, and had cast|strong="H5307" Pur|strong="H6332", that is, the lot|strong="H1486", to consume|strong="H2000" them, and to destroy|strong="H0006" them;

But when Esther came|strong="H0935" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428", he commanded|strong="H0559" by letters|strong="H5612" that his wicked|strong="H7451" device|strong="H4284", which he devised|strong="H2803" against the Jews|strong="H3064", should return|strong="H7725" upon his own head|strong="H7218", and that he and his sons|strong="H1121" should be hanged|strong="H8518" on the gallows|strong="H6086".

Wherefore they called|strong="H7121" these days|strong="H3117" Purim|strong="H6332" after the name|strong="H8034" of Pur|strong="H6332". Therefore for all the words|strong="H1697" of this letter|strong="H0107", and of that which they had seen|strong="H7200" concerning this matter|strong="H3602", and which had come|strong="H5060" unto them,

The Jews|strong="H3064" ordained|strong="H6965", and took|strong="H6901" upon them, and upon their seed|strong="H2233", and upon all such as joined|strong="H3867" themselves unto them, so as it should not fail|strong="H5674", that they would keep|strong="H6213" these two|strong="H8147" days|strong="H3117" according to their writing|strong="H3791", and according to their appointed time|strong="H2165" every year|strong="H8141";

And that these days|strong="H3117" should be remembered|strong="H2142" and kept|strong="H6213" throughout|strong="H1755" every generation|strong="H1755", every family|strong="H4940", every province|strong="H4082", and every city|strong="H5892"; and that these days|strong="H3117" of Purim|strong="H6332" should not fail|strong="H5674" from among|strong="H8432" the Jews|strong="H3064", nor the memorial|strong="H2143" of them perish|strong="H5486" from their seed|strong="H2233".

Then Esther|strong="H0635" the queen|strong="H4436", the daughter|strong="H1323" of Abihail|strong="H0032", and Mordecai|strong="H4782" the Jew|strong="H3064", wrote|strong="H3789" with all authority|strong="H8633", to confirm|strong="H6965" this second|strong="H8145" letter|strong="H0107" of Purim|strong="H6332".

And he sent|strong="H7971" the letters|strong="H5612" unto all the Jews|strong="H3064", to the hundred|strong="H3967" twenty|strong="H6242" and seven|strong="H7651" provinces|strong="H4082" of the kingdom|strong="H4438" of Ahasuerus|strong="H0325", with words|strong="H1697" of peace|strong="H7965" and truth|strong="H0571",

To confirm|strong="H6965" these days|strong="H3117" of Purim|strong="H6332" in their times|strong="H2165" appointed, according as Mordecai|strong="H4782" the Jew|strong="H3064" and Esther|strong="H0635" the queen|strong="H4436" had enjoined|strong="H6965" them, and as they had decreed|strong="H6965" for themselves|strong="H5315" and for their seed|strong="H2233", the matters|strong="H1697" of the fastings|strong="H6685" and their cry|strong="H2201".

And the decree|strong="H3982" of Esther|strong="H0635" confirmed|strong="H6965" these matters|strong="H1697" of Purim|strong="H6332"; and it was written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612".
