Ester 8

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

On that day|strong="H3117" did the king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus|strong="H0325" give|strong="H5414" the house|strong="H1004" of Haman|strong="H2001" the Jews’|strong="H3064" enemy|strong="H6887" unto Esther|strong="H0635" the queen|strong="H4436". And Mordecai|strong="H4782" came|strong="H0935" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428"; for Esther|strong="H0635" had told|strong="H5046" what he was unto her.

And the king|strong="H4428" took off|strong="H5493" his ring|strong="H2885", which he had taken|strong="H5674" from Haman|strong="H2001", and gave|strong="H5414" it unto Mordecai|strong="H4782". And Esther|strong="H0635" set|strong="H7760" Mordecai|strong="H4782" over the house|strong="H1004" of Haman|strong="H2001".

And Esther|strong="H0635" spake|strong="H1696" yet again|strong="H3254" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428", and fell down|strong="H5307" at|strong="H6440" his feet|strong="H7272", and besought|strong="H2603" him with tears|strong="H1058" to put away|strong="H5674" the mischief|strong="H7451" of Haman|strong="H2001" the Agagite|strong="H0091", and his device|strong="H4284" that he had devised|strong="H2803" against the Jews|strong="H3064".

Then the king|strong="H4428" held out|strong="H3447" the golden|strong="H2091" sceptre|strong="H8275" toward Esther|strong="H0635". So Esther|strong="H0635" arose|strong="H6965", and stood|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428",

And said|strong="H0559", If it please|strong="H2896" the king|strong="H4428", and if I have found|strong="H4672" favour|strong="H2580" in his sight|strong="H6440", and the thing|strong="H1697" seem right|strong="H3787" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428", and I be pleasing|strong="H2896" in his eyes|strong="H5869", let it be written|strong="H3789" to reverse|strong="H7725" the letters|strong="H5612" devised|strong="H4284" by Haman|strong="H2001" the son|strong="H1121" of Hammedatha|strong="H4099" the Agagite|strong="H0091", which he wrote|strong="H3789" to destroy|strong="H0006" the Jews|strong="H3064" which are in all the king’s|strong="H4428" provinces|strong="H4082":

For how|strong="H0349" can I endure|strong="H3201" to see|strong="H7200" the evil|strong="H7451" that shall come|strong="H4672" unto my people|strong="H5971"? or how|strong="H0349" can I endure|strong="H3201" to see|strong="H7200" the destruction|strong="H0013" of my kindred|strong="H4138"?

Then the king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus|strong="H0325" said|strong="H0559" unto Esther|strong="H0635" the queen|strong="H4436" and to Mordecai|strong="H4782" the Jew|strong="H3064", Behold, I have given|strong="H5414" Esther|strong="H0635" the house|strong="H1004" of Haman|strong="H2001", and him they have hanged|strong="H8518" upon the gallows|strong="H6086", because he laid|strong="H7971" his hand|strong="H3027" upon the Jews|strong="H3064".

Write|strong="H3789" ye also for the Jews|strong="H3064", as it liketh|strong="H2896" you|strong="H5869", in the king’s|strong="H4428" name|strong="H8034", and seal|strong="H2856" it with the king’s|strong="H4428" ring|strong="H2885": for the writing|strong="H3791" which is written|strong="H3789" in the king’s|strong="H4428" name|strong="H8034", and sealed|strong="H2856" with the king’s|strong="H4428" ring|strong="H2885", may no man reverse|strong="H7725".

Then were the king’s|strong="H4428" scribes|strong="H5608" called|strong="H7121" at that time|strong="H6256" in the third|strong="H7992" month|strong="H2320", that is, the month|strong="H2320" Sivan|strong="H5510", on the three|strong="H7969" and twentieth|strong="H6242" day thereof; and it was written|strong="H3789" according to all that Mordecai|strong="H4782" commanded|strong="H6680" unto the Jews|strong="H3064", and to the lieutenants|strong="H0323", and the deputies|strong="H6346" and rulers|strong="H8269" of the provinces|strong="H4082" which are from India|strong="H1912" unto Ethiopia|strong="H3568", an hundred|strong="H3967" twenty|strong="H6242" and seven|strong="H7651" provinces|strong="H4082", unto every province|strong="H4082" according to the writing|strong="H3791" thereof, and unto every people|strong="H5971" after their language|strong="H3956", and to the Jews|strong="H3064" according to their writing|strong="H3791", and according to their language|strong="H3956".

And he wrote|strong="H3789" in the king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus’|strong="H0325" name|strong="H8034", and sealed|strong="H2856" it with the king’s|strong="H4428" ring|strong="H2885", and sent|strong="H7971" letters|strong="H5612" by|strong="H3027" posts|strong="H7323" on horseback|strong="H5483", and riders|strong="H7392" on mules|strong="H7409", camels|strong="H0327", and young|strong="H1121" dromedaries|strong="H7424":

Wherein the king|strong="H4428" granted|strong="H5414" the Jews|strong="H3064" which were in every city|strong="H5892" to gather themselves together|strong="H6950", and to stand|strong="H5975" for their life|strong="H5315", to destroy|strong="H8045", to slay|strong="H2026", and to cause to perish|strong="H0006", all the power|strong="H2428" of the people|strong="H5971" and province|strong="H4082" that would assault|strong="H6696" them, both little ones|strong="H2945" and women|strong="H0802", and to take the spoil|strong="H7998" of them for a prey|strong="H0962",

Upon one|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117" in all the provinces|strong="H4082" of king|strong="H4428" Ahasuerus|strong="H0325", namely, upon the thirteenth|strong="H7969" day of the twelfth|strong="H8147" month|strong="H2320", which is the month|strong="H2320" Adar|strong="H0143".

The copy|strong="H6572" of the writing|strong="H3791" for a commandment|strong="H1881" to be given|strong="H5414" in every province|strong="H4082" was published|strong="H1540" unto all people|strong="H5971", and that the Jews|strong="H3064" should be ready|strong="H6264" against that day|strong="H3117" to avenge|strong="H5358" themselves on their enemies|strong="H0341".

So the posts|strong="H7323" that rode|strong="H7392" upon mules|strong="H7409" and camels|strong="H0327" went out|strong="H3318", being hastened|strong="H0926" and pressed on|strong="H1765" by the king’s|strong="H4428" commandment|strong="H1697". And the decree|strong="H1881" was given|strong="H5414" at Shushan|strong="H7800" the palace|strong="H1002".

And Mordecai|strong="H4782" went out|strong="H3318" from the presence|strong="H6440" of the king|strong="H4428" in royal|strong="H4438" apparel|strong="H3830" of blue|strong="H8504" and white|strong="H2353", and with a great|strong="H1419" crown|strong="H5850" of gold|strong="H2091", and with a garment|strong="H8509" of fine linen|strong="H0948" and purple|strong="H0713": and the city|strong="H5892" of Shushan|strong="H7800" rejoiced|strong="H6670" and was glad|strong="H8056".

The Jews|strong="H3064" had light|strong="H0219", and gladness|strong="H8057", and joy|strong="H8342", and honour|strong="H3366".

And in every province|strong="H4082", and in every city|strong="H5892", whithersoever|strong="H4725" the king’s|strong="H4428" commandment|strong="H1697" and his decree|strong="H1881" came|strong="H5060", the Jews|strong="H3064" had joy|strong="H8057" and gladness|strong="H8342", a feast|strong="H4960" and a good|strong="H2896" day|strong="H3117". And many|strong="H7227" of the people|strong="H5971" of the land|strong="H0776" became Jews|strong="H3054"; for the fear|strong="H6343" of the Jews|strong="H3064" fell|strong="H5307" upon them.
