1 À medida que o número de discípulos crescia, surgiam murmúrios de descontentamento. Os judeus de fala grega se queixavam dos de fala hebraica, dizendo que suas viúvas estavam sendo negligenciadas na distribuição diária de alimento.

2 Por isso, os Doze convocaram uma reunião com todos os discípulos e disseram: “Nós, apóstolos, devemos nos dedicar ao ensino da palavra de Deus, e não à distribuição de alimentos.

3 Sendo assim, irmãos, escolham sete homens respeitados, cheios do Espírito e de sabedoria, e nós os encarregaremos desse serviço.
4 But|strong="G1161" we|strong="G2249" will give ourselves continually|strong="G4342" to prayer|strong="G4335", and|strong="G2532" to the ministry|strong="G1248" of the word|strong="G3056".
4 Então nós nos dedicaremos à oração e ao ensino da palavra”.

5 A ideia agradou a todos, e escolheram Estêvão, homem cheio de fé e do Espírito Santo, e também Filipe, Prócoro, Nicanor, Timom, Pármenas e Nicolau de Antioquia, que antes havia se convertido ao judaísmo.

7 Assim, a mensagem de Deus continuou a se espalhar. O número de discípulos se multiplicava em Jerusalém, e muitos sacerdotes também se converteram.
8 And|strong="G1161" Stephen|strong="G4736", full|strong="G4134" of faith|strong="G4102" and|strong="G2532" power|strong="G1411", did|strong="G4160" great|strong="G3173" wonders|strong="G5059" and|strong="G2532" miracles|strong="G4592" among|strong="G1722" the people|strong="G2992".
8 Estêvão, homem cheio de graça e poder, realizava milagres e sinais entre o povo.
9 Then|strong="G1161" there arose|strong="G0450" certain|strong="G5100" of|strong="G1537" the synagogue|strong="G4864", which|strong="G3588" is called|strong="G3004" the synagogue of the Libertines|strong="G3032", and|strong="G2532" Cyrenians|strong="G2956", and|strong="G2532" Alexandrians|strong="G0221", and|strong="G2532" of|strong="G0575" them|strong="G3588" of Cilicia|strong="G2791" and|strong="G2532" of Asia|strong="G0773", disputing|strong="G4802" with Stephen|strong="G4736".
9 Um dia, porém, alguns homens da chamada Sinagoga dos Escravos Libertos começaram a discutir com ele. Eram judeus de Cirene, de Alexandria, da Cilícia e da província da Ásia.

11 Então convenceram alguns homens a mentir a respeito dele, dizendo: “Ouvimos Estêvão blasfemar contra Moisés, e até contra Deus”.
12 And|strong="G5037" they stirred up|strong="G4787" the people|strong="G2992", and|strong="G2532" the elders|strong="G4245", and|strong="G2532" the scribes|strong="G1122", and|strong="G2532" came upon|strong="G2186" him, and|strong="G2532" caught|strong="G4884" him|strong="G0846", and|strong="G2532" brought|strong="G0071" him to|strong="G1519" the council|strong="G4892",
12 Com isso, agitaram o povo, os líderes religiosos e os mestres da lei, e Estêvão foi preso e levado ao conselho dos líderes do povo.
13 And|strong="G5037" set up|strong="G2476" false|strong="G5571" witnesses|strong="G3144", which said|strong="G3004", This|strong="G3778" man|strong="G0444" ceaseth|strong="G3973" not|strong="G3756" to speak|strong="G2980" blasphemous|strong="G0989" words|strong="G4487" against|strong="G2596" this|strong="G5127" holy|strong="G0040" place|strong="G5117", and|strong="G2532" the law|strong="G3551":
13 As falsas testemunhas declararam: “Este homem vive falando contra o santo templo e a lei de Moisés.
14 For|strong="G1063" we have heard|strong="G0191" him|strong="G0846" say|strong="G3004", that|strong="G3754" this|strong="G3778" Jesus|strong="G2424" of Nazareth|strong="G3480" shall destroy|strong="G2647" this|strong="G5126" place|strong="G5117", and|strong="G2532" shall change|strong="G0236" the customs|strong="G1485" which|strong="G3739" Moses|strong="G3475" delivered|strong="G3860" us|strong="G2254".
14 Nós o ouvimos dizer que esse Jesus de Nazaré destruirá o templo e mudará os costumes que Moisés nos deixou”.
15 And|strong="G2532" all|strong="G0537" that sat|strong="G2516" in|strong="G1722" the council|strong="G4892", looking stedfastly|strong="G0816" on|strong="G1519" him|strong="G0846", saw|strong="G1492" his|strong="G0846" face|strong="G4383" as it had been|strong="G5616" the face|strong="G4383" of an angel|strong="G0032".
15 Nesse momento, todos os membros do conselho olharam para Estêvão e viram que seu rosto parecia o rosto de um anjo.
