2 Samuel 5

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 Then came|strong="H0935" all the tribes|strong="H7626" of Israel|strong="H3478" to David|strong="H1732" unto Hebron|strong="H2275", and spake|strong="H0559", saying|strong="H0559", Behold, we are thy bone|strong="H6106" and thy flesh|strong="H1320".

2 Also in time past|strong="H0865", when Saul|strong="H7586" was king|strong="H4428" over us, thou wast he that leddest out|strong="H3318" and broughtest in|strong="H0935" Israel|strong="H3478": and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" to thee, Thou shalt feed|strong="H7462" my people|strong="H5971" Israel|strong="H3478", and thou shalt be a captain|strong="H5057" over Israel|strong="H3478".

3 So all the elders|strong="H2205" of Israel|strong="H3478" came|strong="H0935" to the king|strong="H4428" to Hebron|strong="H2275"; and king|strong="H4428" David|strong="H1732" made|strong="H3772" a league|strong="H1285" with them in Hebron|strong="H2275" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: and they anointed|strong="H4886" David|strong="H1732" king|strong="H4428" over Israel|strong="H3478".

4 David|strong="H1732" was thirty|strong="H7970" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when he began to reign|strong="H4427", and he reigned|strong="H4427" forty|strong="H0705" years|strong="H8141".

5 In Hebron|strong="H2275" he reigned|strong="H4427" over Judah|strong="H3063" seven|strong="H7651" years|strong="H8141" and six|strong="H8337" months|strong="H2320": and in Jerusalem|strong="H3389" he reigned|strong="H4427" thirty|strong="H7970" and three|strong="H7969" years|strong="H8141" over all Israel|strong="H3478" and Judah|strong="H3063".

6 And the king|strong="H4428" and his men|strong="H0582" went|strong="H3212" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389" unto the Jebusites|strong="H2983", the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the land|strong="H0776": which spake|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", saying|strong="H0559", Except thou take away|strong="H5493" the blind|strong="H5787" and the lame|strong="H6455", thou shalt not come in|strong="H0935" hither: thinking|strong="H0559", David|strong="H1732" cannot come in|strong="H0935" hither.

7 Nevertheless David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3920" the strong hold|strong="H4686" of Zion|strong="H6726": the same is the city|strong="H5892" of David|strong="H1732".

8 And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" on that day|strong="H3117", Whosoever getteth up|strong="H5060" to the gutter|strong="H6794", and smiteth|strong="H5221" the Jebusites|strong="H2983", and the lame|strong="H6455" and the blind|strong="H5787", that are hated|strong="H8130" of David’s|strong="H1732" soul|strong="H5315", he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said|strong="H0559", The blind|strong="H5787" and the lame|strong="H6455" shall not come|strong="H0935" into the house|strong="H1004".

9 So David|strong="H1732" dwelt|strong="H3427" in the fort|strong="H4686", and called|strong="H7121" it the city|strong="H5892" of David|strong="H1732". And David|strong="H1732" built|strong="H1129" round about|strong="H5439" from Millo|strong="H4407" and inward|strong="H1004".

10 And David|strong="H1732" went|strong="H3212" on|strong="H1980", and grew great|strong="H1419", and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of hosts|strong="H6635" was with him.

11 And Hiram|strong="H2438" king|strong="H4428" of Tyre|strong="H6865" sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" to David|strong="H1732", and cedar|strong="H0730" trees|strong="H6086", and carpenters|strong="H2796", and masons|strong="H7023": and they built|strong="H1129" David|strong="H1732" an house|strong="H1004".

12 And David|strong="H1732" perceived|strong="H3045" that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had established|strong="H3559" him king|strong="H4428" over Israel|strong="H3478", and that he had exalted|strong="H5375" his kingdom|strong="H4467" for his people|strong="H5971" Israel’s|strong="H3478" sake.

13 And David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3947" him more concubines|strong="H6370" and wives|strong="H0802" out of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", after|strong="H0310" he was come|strong="H0935" from Hebron|strong="H2275": and there were yet sons|strong="H1121" and daughters|strong="H1323" born|strong="H3205" to David|strong="H1732".

14 And these be the names|strong="H8034" of those that were born|strong="H3209" unto him in Jerusalem|strong="H3389"; Shammua|strong="H8051", and Shobab|strong="H7727", and Nathan|strong="H5416", and Solomon|strong="H8010",

15 Ibhar|strong="H2984" also, and Elishua|strong="H0474", and Nepheg|strong="H5298", and Japhia|strong="H3309",

16 And Elishama|strong="H0476", and Eliada|strong="H0450", and Eliphalet|strong="H0467".

17 But when the Philistines|strong="H6430" heard|strong="H8085" that they had anointed|strong="H4886" David|strong="H1732" king|strong="H4428" over Israel|strong="H3478", all the Philistines|strong="H6430" came up|strong="H5927" to seek|strong="H1245" David|strong="H1732"; and David|strong="H1732" heard|strong="H8085" of it, and went down|strong="H3381" to the hold|strong="H4686".

18 The Philistines|strong="H6430" also came|strong="H0935" and spread|strong="H5203" themselves in the valley|strong="H6010" of Rephaim|strong="H7497".

19 And David|strong="H1732" enquired|strong="H7592" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", Shall I go up|strong="H5927" to the Philistines|strong="H6430"? wilt thou deliver|strong="H5414" them into mine hand|strong="H3027"? And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", Go up|strong="H5927": for I will doubtless|strong="H5414" deliver|strong="H5414" the Philistines|strong="H6430" into thine hand|strong="H3027".

20 And David|strong="H1732" came|strong="H0935" to Baal-perazim|strong="H1188", and David|strong="H1732" smote|strong="H5221" them there, and said|strong="H0559", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath broken forth|strong="H6555" upon mine enemies|strong="H0341" before|strong="H6440" me, as the breach|strong="H6556" of waters|strong="H4325". Therefore he called|strong="H7121" the name|strong="H8034" of that place|strong="H4725" Baal-perazim|strong="H1188".

21 And there they left|strong="H5800" their images|strong="H6091", and David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" burned|strong="H5375" them.

22 And the Philistines|strong="H6430" came up|strong="H5927" yet again|strong="H3254", and spread|strong="H5203" themselves in the valley|strong="H6010" of Rephaim|strong="H7497".

23 And when David|strong="H1732" enquired|strong="H7592" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, he said|strong="H0559", Thou shalt not go up|strong="H5927"; but fetch a compass|strong="H5437" behind|strong="H0310" them, and come|strong="H0935" upon them over against|strong="H4136" the mulberry trees|strong="H1057".

24 And let it be, when thou hearest|strong="H8085" the sound|strong="H6963" of a going|strong="H6807" in the tops|strong="H7218" of the mulberry trees|strong="H1057", that then thou shalt bestir|strong="H2782" thyself: for then shall the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* go out|strong="H3318" before|strong="H6440" thee, to smite|strong="H5221" the host|strong="H4264" of the Philistines|strong="H6430".

25 And David|strong="H1732" did so|strong="H6213", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had commanded|strong="H6680" him; and smote|strong="H5221" the Philistines|strong="H6430" from Geba|strong="H1387" until thou come|strong="H0935" to Gazer|strong="H1507".
