2 Samuel 4

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 And when Saul’s|strong="H7586" son|strong="H1121" heard|strong="H8085" that Abner|strong="H0074" was dead|strong="H4191" in Hebron|strong="H2275", his hands|strong="H3027" were feeble|strong="H7503", and all the Israelites|strong="H3478" were troubled|strong="H0926".

2 And Saul’s|strong="H7586" son|strong="H1121" had|strong="H1961" two|strong="H8147" men|strong="H0582" that were captains|strong="H8269" of bands|strong="H1416": the name|strong="H8034" of the one|strong="H0259" was Baanah|strong="H1196", and the name|strong="H8034" of the other|strong="H8145" Rechab|strong="H7394", the sons|strong="H1121" of Rimmon|strong="H7417" a Beerothite|strong="H0886", of the children|strong="H1121" of Benjamin|strong="H1144": (for Beeroth|strong="H0881" also was reckoned|strong="H2803" to Benjamin|strong="H1144":

3 And the Beerothites|strong="H0886" fled|strong="H1272" to Gittaim|strong="H1664", and were sojourners|strong="H1481" there until this day|strong="H3117".)

4 And Jonathan|strong="H3083", Saul’s|strong="H7586" son|strong="H1121", had a son|strong="H1121" that was lame|strong="H5223" of his feet|strong="H7272". He was five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when the tidings|strong="H8052" came|strong="H0935" of Saul|strong="H7586" and Jonathan|strong="H3083" out of Jezreel|strong="H3157", and his nurse|strong="H0539" took him up|strong="H5375", and fled|strong="H5127": and it came to pass, as she made haste|strong="H2648" to flee|strong="H5127", that he fell|strong="H5307", and became lame|strong="H6452". And his name|strong="H8034" was Mephibosheth|strong="H4648".

5 And the sons|strong="H1121" of Rimmon|strong="H7417" the Beerothite|strong="H0886", Rechab|strong="H7394" and Baanah|strong="H1196", went|strong="H3212", and came|strong="H0935" about the heat|strong="H2527" of the day|strong="H3117" to the house|strong="H1004" of Ish-bosheth|strong="H0378", who lay|strong="H7901" on a bed|strong="H4904" at noon|strong="H6672".

6 And they came thither|strong="H0935" into the midst|strong="H8432" of the house|strong="H1004", as though they would have fetched|strong="H3947" wheat|strong="H2406"; and they smote|strong="H5221" him under the fifth|strong="H2570" rib: and Rechab|strong="H7394" and Baanah|strong="H1196" his brother|strong="H0251" escaped|strong="H4422".

7 For when they came|strong="H0935" into the house|strong="H1004", he lay|strong="H7901" on his bed|strong="H4296" in his bedchamber|strong="H2315", and they smote|strong="H5221" him, and slew|strong="H4191" him, and beheaded|strong="H5493" him, and took|strong="H3947" his head|strong="H7218", and gat them away|strong="H3212" through|strong="H1870" the plain|strong="H6160" all night|strong="H3915".

8 And they brought|strong="H0935" the head|strong="H7218" of Ish-bosheth|strong="H0378" unto David|strong="H1732" to Hebron|strong="H2275", and said|strong="H0559" to the king|strong="H4428", Behold the head|strong="H7218" of Ish-bosheth|strong="H0378" the son|strong="H1121" of Saul|strong="H7586" thine enemy|strong="H0341", which sought|strong="H1245" thy life|strong="H5315"; and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath|strong="H5414" avenged|strong="H5360" my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428" this day|strong="H3117" of Saul|strong="H7586", and of his seed|strong="H2233".

9 And David|strong="H1732" answered|strong="H6030" Rechab|strong="H7394" and Baanah|strong="H1196" his brother|strong="H0251", the sons|strong="H1121" of Rimmon|strong="H7417" the Beerothite|strong="H0886", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* liveth|strong="H2416", who hath redeemed|strong="H6299" my soul|strong="H5315" out of all adversity|strong="H6869",

10 When one told|strong="H5046" me, saying|strong="H0559", Behold, Saul|strong="H7586" is dead|strong="H4191", thinking to have brought|strong="H5869" good tidings|strong="H1319", I took hold|strong="H0270" of him, and slew|strong="H2026" him in Ziklag|strong="H6860", who thought that I would have given|strong="H5414" him a reward for his tidings|strong="H1309":

11 How much more, when wicked|strong="H7563" men|strong="H0582" have slain|strong="H2026" a righteous|strong="H6662" person|strong="H0376" in his own house|strong="H1004" upon his bed|strong="H4904"? shall I not therefore now require|strong="H1245" his blood|strong="H1818" of your hand|strong="H3027", and take you away|strong="H1197" from the earth|strong="H0776"?

12 And David|strong="H1732" commanded|strong="H6680" his young men|strong="H5288", and they slew|strong="H2026" them, and cut off|strong="H7112" their hands|strong="H3027" and their feet|strong="H7272", and hanged them up|strong="H8518" over the pool|strong="H1295" in Hebron|strong="H2275". But they took|strong="H3947" the head|strong="H7218" of Ish-bosheth|strong="H0378", and buried|strong="H6912" it in the sepulchre|strong="H6913" of Abner|strong="H0074" in Hebron|strong="H2275".
