2 Samuel 24

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 And again|strong="H3254" the anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was kindled|strong="H2734" against Israel|strong="H3478", and he moved|strong="H5496" David|strong="H1732" against them to say|strong="H0559", Go|strong="H3212", number|strong="H4487" Israel|strong="H3478" and Judah|strong="H3063".

2 For the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" to Joab|strong="H3097" the captain|strong="H8269" of the host|strong="H2428", which was with him, Go now through|strong="H7751" all the tribes|strong="H7626" of Israel|strong="H3478", from Dan|strong="H1835" even to Beer-sheba|strong="H0884", and number|strong="H6485" ye the people|strong="H5971", that I may know|strong="H3045" the number|strong="H4557" of the people|strong="H5971".

3 And Joab|strong="H3097" said|strong="H0559" unto the king|strong="H4428", Now the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" add|strong="H3254" unto the people|strong="H5971", how many soever|strong="H1992" they be, an hundredfold|strong="H3967", and that the eyes|strong="H5869" of my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428" may see|strong="H7200" it: but why doth my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428" delight|strong="H2654" in this thing|strong="H1697"?

4 Notwithstanding the king’s|strong="H4428" word|strong="H1697" prevailed|strong="H2388" against Joab|strong="H3097", and against the captains|strong="H8269" of the host|strong="H2428". And Joab|strong="H3097" and the captains|strong="H8269" of the host|strong="H2428" went out|strong="H3318" from the presence|strong="H6440" of the king|strong="H4428", to number|strong="H6485" the people|strong="H5971" of Israel|strong="H3478".

5 And they passed over|strong="H5674" Jordan|strong="H3383", and pitched|strong="H2583" in Aroer|strong="H6177", on the right side|strong="H3225" of the city|strong="H5892" that lieth in the midst|strong="H8432" of the river|strong="H5158" of Gad|strong="H1410", and toward Jazer|strong="H3270":

6 Then they came|strong="H0935" to Gilead|strong="H1568", and to the land|strong="H0776" of Tahtim-hodshi|strong="H8483"; and they came|strong="H0935" to Dan-jaan|strong="H1842", and about|strong="H5439" to Zidon|strong="H6721",

7 And came|strong="H0935" to the strong hold|strong="H4013" of Tyre|strong="H6865", and to all the cities|strong="H5892" of the Hivites|strong="H2340", and of the Canaanites|strong="H3669": and they went out|strong="H3318" to the south|strong="H5045" of Judah|strong="H3063", even to Beer-sheba|strong="H0884".

8 So when they had gone|strong="H7751" through all the land|strong="H0776", they came|strong="H0935" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389" at the end|strong="H7097" of nine|strong="H8672" months|strong="H2320" and twenty|strong="H6242" days|strong="H3117".

9 And Joab|strong="H3097" gave up|strong="H5414" the sum|strong="H4557" of the number|strong="H4662" of the people|strong="H5971" unto the king|strong="H4428": and there were in Israel|strong="H3478" eight|strong="H8083" hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505" valiant|strong="H2428" men|strong="H0376" that drew|strong="H8025" the sword|strong="H2719"; and the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" were five|strong="H2568" hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505" men|strong="H0376".

10 And David’s|strong="H1732" heart|strong="H3820" smote|strong="H5221" him after|strong="H0310" that he had numbered|strong="H5608" the people|strong="H5971". And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, I have sinned|strong="H2398" greatly|strong="H3966" in that I have done|strong="H6213": and now, I beseech thee, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, take away|strong="H5674" the iniquity|strong="H5771" of thy servant|strong="H5650"; for I have done very|strong="H3966" foolishly|strong="H5528".

11 For when David|strong="H1732" was up|strong="H6965" in the morning|strong="H1242", the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto the prophet|strong="H5030" Gad|strong="H1410", David’s|strong="H1732" seer|strong="H2374", saying|strong="H0559",

12 Go|strong="H1980" and say|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", Thus saith|strong="H1696" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, I offer|strong="H5190" thee three|strong="H7969" things; choose|strong="H0977" thee one|strong="H0259" of them, that I may do it unto thee|strong="H6213".

13 So Gad|strong="H1410" came|strong="H0935" to David|strong="H1732", and told|strong="H5046" him, and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Shall seven|strong="H7651" years|strong="H8141" of famine|strong="H7458" come|strong="H0935" unto thee in thy land|strong="H0776"? or wilt thou flee|strong="H5127" three|strong="H7969" months|strong="H2320" before|strong="H6440" thine enemies|strong="H6862", while they pursue|strong="H7291" thee? or that there be three|strong="H7969" days’|strong="H3117" pestilence|strong="H1698" in thy land|strong="H0776"? now advise|strong="H3045", and see|strong="H7200" what answer|strong="H1697" I shall return|strong="H7725" to him that sent|strong="H7971" me.

14 And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto Gad|strong="H1410", I am in a great|strong="H3966" strait|strong="H6887": let us fall|strong="H5307" now into the hand|strong="H3027" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; for his mercies|strong="H7356" are great|strong="H7227": and let me not fall|strong="H5307" into the hand|strong="H3027" of man|strong="H0120".

15 So the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H5414" a pestilence|strong="H1698" upon Israel|strong="H3478" from the morning|strong="H1242" even to the time|strong="H6256" appointed|strong="H4150": and there died|strong="H4191" of the people|strong="H5971" from Dan|strong="H1835" even to Beer-sheba|strong="H0884" seventy|strong="H7657" thousand|strong="H0505" men|strong="H0376".

16 And when the angel|strong="H4397" stretched out|strong="H7971" his hand|strong="H3027" upon Jerusalem|strong="H3389" to destroy|strong="H7843" it, the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* repented|strong="H5162" him of the evil|strong="H7451", and said|strong="H0559" to the angel|strong="H4397" that destroyed|strong="H7843" the people|strong="H5971", It is enough|strong="H7227": stay|strong="H7503" now thine hand|strong="H3027". And the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was by the threshingplace|strong="H1637" of Araunah|strong="H0728" the Jebusite|strong="H2983".

17 And David|strong="H1732" spake|strong="H0559" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* when he saw|strong="H7200" the angel|strong="H4397" that smote|strong="H5221" the people|strong="H5971", and said|strong="H0559", Lo, I have sinned|strong="H2398", and I have done wickedly|strong="H5753": but these sheep|strong="H6629", what have they done|strong="H6213"? let thine hand|strong="H3027", I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s|strong="H0001" house|strong="H1004".

18 And Gad|strong="H1410" came|strong="H0935" that day|strong="H3117" to David|strong="H1732", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Go up|strong="H5927", rear|strong="H6965" an altar|strong="H4196" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in the threshingfloor|strong="H1637" of Araunah|strong="H0728" the Jebusite|strong="H2983".

19 And David|strong="H1732", according to the saying|strong="H1697" of Gad|strong="H1410", went up|strong="H5927" as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680".

20 And Araunah|strong="H0728" looked|strong="H8259", and saw|strong="H7200" the king|strong="H4428" and his servants|strong="H5650" coming on|strong="H5674" toward him: and Araunah|strong="H0728" went out|strong="H3318", and bowed|strong="H7812" himself before the king|strong="H4428" on his face|strong="H0639" upon the ground|strong="H0776".

21 And Araunah|strong="H0728" said|strong="H0559", Wherefore is my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428" come|strong="H0935" to his servant|strong="H5650"? And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559", To buy|strong="H7069" the threshingfloor|strong="H1637" of thee, to build|strong="H1129" an altar|strong="H4196" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that the plague|strong="H4046" may be stayed|strong="H6113" from the people|strong="H5971".

22 And Araunah|strong="H0728" said|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", Let my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428" take|strong="H3947" and offer up|strong="H5927" what seemeth good|strong="H2896" unto him|strong="H5869": behold|strong="H7200", here be oxen|strong="H1241" for burnt sacrifice|strong="H5930", and threshing instruments|strong="H4173" and other instruments|strong="H3627" of the oxen|strong="H1241" for wood|strong="H6086".

23 All these things did Araunah|strong="H0728", as a king|strong="H4428", give|strong="H5414" unto the king|strong="H4428". And Araunah|strong="H0728" said|strong="H0559" unto the king|strong="H4428", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" accept|strong="H7521" thee.

24 And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" unto Araunah|strong="H0728", Nay; but I will surely|strong="H7069" buy|strong="H7069" it of thee at a price|strong="H4242": neither will I offer|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* my God|strong="H0430" of that which doth cost me nothing|strong="H2600". So David|strong="H1732" bought|strong="H7069" the threshingfloor|strong="H1637" and the oxen|strong="H1241" for fifty|strong="H2572" shekels|strong="H8255" of silver|strong="H3701".

25 And David|strong="H1732" built|strong="H1129" there an altar|strong="H4196" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and offered|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" and peace offerings|strong="H8002". So the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was intreated|strong="H6279" for the land|strong="H0776", and the plague|strong="H4046" was stayed|strong="H6113" from Israel|strong="H3478".
