2 Reis 3

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 Now Jehoram|strong="H3088" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahab|strong="H0256" began to reign|strong="H4427" over Israel|strong="H3478" in Samaria|strong="H8111" the eighteenth|strong="H8083" year|strong="H8141" of Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", and reigned|strong="H4427" twelve|strong="H8147" years|strong="H8141".

2 And he wrought|strong="H6213" evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; but not like his father|strong="H0001", and like his mother|strong="H0517": for he put away|strong="H5493" the image|strong="H4676" of Baal|strong="H1168" that his father|strong="H0001" had made|strong="H6213".

3 Nevertheless he cleaved|strong="H1692" unto the sins|strong="H2403" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Nebat|strong="H5028", which made Israel|strong="H3478" to sin|strong="H2398"; he departed|strong="H5493" not therefrom.

4 And Mesha|strong="H4338" king|strong="H4428" of Moab|strong="H4124" was a sheepmaster|strong="H5349", and rendered|strong="H7725" unto the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" an hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505" lambs|strong="H3733", and an hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505" rams|strong="H0352", with the wool|strong="H6785".

5 But it came to pass, when Ahab|strong="H0256" was dead|strong="H4194", that the king|strong="H4428" of Moab|strong="H4124" rebelled|strong="H6586" against the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478".

6 And king|strong="H4428" Jehoram|strong="H3088" went out|strong="H3318" of Samaria|strong="H8111" the same time|strong="H3117", and numbered|strong="H6485" all Israel|strong="H3478".

7 And he went|strong="H3212" and sent|strong="H7971" to Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559", The king|strong="H4428" of Moab|strong="H4124" hath rebelled|strong="H6586" against me: wilt thou go|strong="H3212" with me against Moab|strong="H4124" to battle|strong="H4421"? And he said|strong="H0559", I will go up|strong="H5927": I am as thou art, my people|strong="H5971" as thy people|strong="H5971", and my horses|strong="H5483" as thy horses|strong="H5483".

8 And he said|strong="H0559", Which way|strong="H1870" shall we go up|strong="H5927"? And he answered|strong="H0559", The way|strong="H1870" through the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Edom|strong="H0123".

9 So the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" went|strong="H3212", and the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", and the king|strong="H4428" of Edom|strong="H0123": and they fetched a compass|strong="H5437" of seven|strong="H7651" days’|strong="H3117" journey|strong="H1870": and there was no water|strong="H4325" for the host|strong="H4264", and for the cattle|strong="H0929" that followed|strong="H7272" them.

10 And the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" said|strong="H0559", Alas|strong="H0162"! that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath called|strong="H7121" these three|strong="H7969" kings|strong="H4428" together|strong="H7121", to deliver|strong="H5414" them into the hand|strong="H3027" of Moab|strong="H4124"!

11 But Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" said|strong="H0559", Is there not here a prophet|strong="H5030" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that we may enquire|strong="H1875" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* by him? And one|strong="H0259" of the king|strong="H4428" of Israel’s|strong="H3478" servants|strong="H5650" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559", Here is Elisha|strong="H0477" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphat|strong="H8202", which poured|strong="H3332" water|strong="H4325" on the hands|strong="H3027" of Elijah|strong="H0452".

12 And Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" said|strong="H0559", The word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is|strong="H3426" with him. So the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" and Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" and the king|strong="H4428" of Edom|strong="H0123" went down|strong="H3381" to him.

13 And Elisha|strong="H0477" said|strong="H0559" unto the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", What have I to do with thee? get|strong="H3212" thee to the prophets|strong="H5030" of thy father|strong="H0001", and to the prophets|strong="H5030" of thy mother|strong="H0517". And the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Nay: for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath called|strong="H7121" these three|strong="H7969" kings|strong="H4428" together|strong="H7121", to deliver|strong="H5414" them into the hand|strong="H3027" of Moab|strong="H4124".

14 And Elisha|strong="H0477" said|strong="H0559", As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" liveth|strong="H2416", before|strong="H6440" whom I stand|strong="H5975", surely, were it not that|strong="H3884" I regard|strong="H5375" the presence|strong="H6440" of Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", I would not look|strong="H5027" toward thee, nor see|strong="H7200" thee.

15 But now bring|strong="H3947" me a minstrel|strong="H5059". And it came to pass, when the minstrel|strong="H5059" played|strong="H5059", that the hand|strong="H3027" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came upon him.

16 And he said|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Make|strong="H6213" this valley|strong="H5158" full of ditches|strong="H1356".

17 For thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Ye shall not see|strong="H7200" wind|strong="H7307", neither shall ye see|strong="H7200" rain|strong="H1653"; yet that valley|strong="H5158" shall be filled|strong="H4390" with water|strong="H4325", that ye may drink|strong="H8354", both ye, and your cattle|strong="H4735", and your beasts|strong="H0929".

18 And this is but a light thing|strong="H7043" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: he will deliver|strong="H5414" the Moabites|strong="H4124" also into your hand|strong="H3027".

19 And ye shall smite|strong="H5221" every fenced|strong="H4013" city|strong="H5892", and every choice|strong="H4004" city|strong="H5892", and shall fell|strong="H5307" every good|strong="H2896" tree|strong="H6086", and stop|strong="H5640" all wells|strong="H4599" of water|strong="H4325", and mar|strong="H3510" every good|strong="H2896" piece|strong="H2513" of land with stones|strong="H0068".

20 And it came to pass in the morning|strong="H1242", when the meat offering|strong="H4503" was offered|strong="H5927", that, behold, there came|strong="H0935" water|strong="H4325" by the way|strong="H1870" of Edom|strong="H0123", and the country|strong="H0776" was filled|strong="H4390" with water|strong="H4325".

21 And when all the Moabites|strong="H4124" heard|strong="H8085" that the kings|strong="H4428" were come up|strong="H5927" to fight|strong="H3898" against them, they gathered|strong="H6817" all that were able to put|strong="H2296" on armour|strong="H2290", and upward|strong="H4605", and stood|strong="H5975" in the border|strong="H1366".

22 And they rose up early|strong="H7925" in the morning|strong="H1242", and the sun|strong="H8121" shone|strong="H2224" upon the water|strong="H4325", and the Moabites|strong="H4124" saw|strong="H7200" the water|strong="H4325" on the other side|strong="H5048" as red|strong="H0122" as blood|strong="H1818":

23 And they said|strong="H0559", This is blood|strong="H1818": the kings|strong="H4428" are surely|strong="H2717" slain|strong="H2717", and they have smitten|strong="H5221" one|strong="H0376" another|strong="H7453": now therefore, Moab|strong="H4124", to the spoil|strong="H7998".

24 And when they came|strong="H0935" to the camp|strong="H4264" of Israel|strong="H3478", the Israelites|strong="H3478" rose up|strong="H6965" and smote|strong="H5221" the Moabites|strong="H4124", so that they fled|strong="H5127" before|strong="H6440" them: but they went forward|strong="H5221" smiting|strong="H5221" the Moabites|strong="H4124", even in their country.

25 And they beat down|strong="H2040" the cities|strong="H5892", and on every good|strong="H2896" piece|strong="H2513" of land cast|strong="H7993" every man|strong="H0376" his stone|strong="H0068", and filled|strong="H4390" it; and they stopped|strong="H5640" all the wells|strong="H4599" of water|strong="H4325", and felled|strong="H5307" all the good|strong="H2896" trees|strong="H6086": only in Kir-haraseth|strong="H7025" left|strong="H7604" they the stones|strong="H0068" thereof; howbeit the slingers|strong="H7051" went about|strong="H5437" it, and smote|strong="H5221" it.

26 And when the king|strong="H4428" of Moab|strong="H4124" saw|strong="H7200" that the battle|strong="H4421" was too sore|strong="H2388" for him, he took|strong="H3947" with him seven|strong="H7651" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" that drew|strong="H8025" swords|strong="H2719", to break through|strong="H1234" even unto the king|strong="H4428" of Edom|strong="H0123": but they could|strong="H3201" not.

27 Then he took|strong="H3947" his eldest|strong="H1060" son|strong="H1121" that should have reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead, and offered|strong="H5927" him for a burnt offering|strong="H5930" upon the wall|strong="H2346". And there was great|strong="H1419" indignation|strong="H7110" against Israel|strong="H3478": and they departed|strong="H5265" from him, and returned|strong="H7725" to their own land|strong="H0776".
