1 It came to pass after this|strong="H0310" also, that the children|strong="H1121" of Moab|strong="H4124", and the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983", and with them other beside the Ammonites|strong="H5984", came|strong="H0935" against Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" to battle|strong="H4421".
2 Then there came|strong="H0935" some that told|strong="H5046" Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092", saying|strong="H0559", There cometh|strong="H0935" a great|strong="H7227" multitude|strong="H1995" against thee from beyond|strong="H5676" the sea|strong="H3220" on this side Syria|strong="H0758"; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar|strong="H2688", which is En-gedi|strong="H5872".
3 And Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" feared|strong="H3372", and set|strong="H5414" himself|strong="H6440" to seek|strong="H1875" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and proclaimed|strong="H7121" a fast|strong="H6685" throughout|strong="H5921" all Judah|strong="H3063".
4 And Judah|strong="H3063" gathered themselves together|strong="H6908", to ask|strong="H1245" help of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: even out of all the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063" they came|strong="H0935" to seek|strong="H1245" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
5 And Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" stood|strong="H5975" in the congregation|strong="H6951" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389", in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, before|strong="H6440" the new|strong="H2319" court|strong="H2691",
6 And said|strong="H0559", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of our fathers|strong="H0001", art not thou God|strong="H0430" in heaven|strong="H8064"? and rulest|strong="H4910" not thou over all the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of the heathen|strong="H1471"? and in thine hand|strong="H3027" is there not power|strong="H3581" and might|strong="H1369", so that none is able to withstand|strong="H3320" thee?
7 Art not thou our God|strong="H0430", who didst drive out|strong="H3423" the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of this land|strong="H0776" before|strong="H6440" thy people|strong="H5971" Israel|strong="H3478", and gavest|strong="H5414" it to the seed|strong="H2233" of Abraham|strong="H0085" thy friend|strong="H0157" for ever|strong="H5769"?
8 And they dwelt|strong="H3427" therein, and have built|strong="H1129" thee a sanctuary|strong="H4720" therein for thy name|strong="H8034", saying|strong="H0559",
9 If, when evil|strong="H7451" cometh|strong="H0935" upon us, as the sword|strong="H2719", judgment|strong="H8196", or pestilence|strong="H1698", or famine|strong="H7458", we stand|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" this house|strong="H1004", and in thy presence|strong="H6440", (for thy name|strong="H8034" is in this house|strong="H1004",) and cry|strong="H2199" unto thee in our affliction|strong="H6869", then thou wilt hear|strong="H8085" and help|strong="H3467".
10 And now, behold, the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983" and Moab|strong="H4124" and mount|strong="H2022" Seir|strong="H8165", whom thou wouldest not let|strong="H5414" Israel|strong="H3478" invade|strong="H0935", when they came out|strong="H0935" of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", but they turned|strong="H5493" from them, and destroyed|strong="H8045" them not;
11 Behold, I say, how they reward|strong="H1580" us, to come|strong="H0935" to cast us out|strong="H1644" of thy possession|strong="H3425", which thou hast given us to inherit|strong="H3423".
12 O our God|strong="H0430", wilt thou not judge|strong="H8199" them? for we have no might|strong="H3581" against|strong="H6440" this great|strong="H7227" company|strong="H1995" that cometh|strong="H0935" against us; neither know|strong="H3045" we|strong="H0587" what to do|strong="H6213": but our eyes|strong="H5869" are upon thee.
13 And all Judah|strong="H3063" stood|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, with|strong="H1571" their little ones|strong="H2945", their wives|strong="H0802", and their children|strong="H1121".
14 Then upon Jahaziel|strong="H3166" the son|strong="H1121" of Zechariah|strong="H2148", the son|strong="H1121" of Benaiah|strong="H1141", the son|strong="H1121" of Jeiel|strong="H3273", the son|strong="H1121" of Mattaniah|strong="H4983", a Levite|strong="H3881" of the sons|strong="H1121" of Asaph|strong="H0623", came the Spirit|strong="H7307" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in the midst|strong="H8432" of the congregation|strong="H6951";
15 And he said|strong="H0559", Hearken|strong="H7181" ye, all Judah|strong="H3063", and ye inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and thou king|strong="H4428" Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto you, Be not afraid|strong="H3372" nor dismayed|strong="H2865" by reason|strong="H6440" of this great|strong="H7227" multitude|strong="H1995"; for the battle|strong="H4421" is not yours, but God’s|strong="H0430".
16 To morrow|strong="H4279" go ye down|strong="H3381" against them: behold, they come up|strong="H5927" by the cliff|strong="H4608" of Ziz|strong="H6732"; and ye shall find|strong="H4672" them at the end|strong="H5490" of the brook|strong="H5158", before|strong="H6440" the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Jeruel|strong="H3385".
17 Ye shall not need to fight|strong="H3898" in this|strong="H2063" battle: set|strong="H3320" yourselves, stand|strong="H5975" ye still, and see|strong="H7200" the salvation|strong="H3444" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* with you, O Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389": fear|strong="H3372" not, nor be dismayed|strong="H2865"; to morrow|strong="H4279" go out|strong="H3318" against|strong="H6440" them: for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* will be with you.
18 And Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" bowed|strong="H6915" his head with his face|strong="H0639" to the ground|strong="H0776": and all Judah|strong="H3063" and the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" fell|strong="H5307" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, worshipping|strong="H7812" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
19 And the Levites|strong="H3881", of the children|strong="H1121" of the Kohathites|strong="H6956", and of the children|strong="H1121" of the Korhites|strong="H7145", stood up|strong="H6965" to praise|strong="H1984" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" with a loud|strong="H1419" voice|strong="H6963" on high|strong="H4605".
20 And they rose early|strong="H7925" in the morning|strong="H1242", and went forth|strong="H3318" into the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Tekoa|strong="H8620": and as they went forth|strong="H3318", Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" stood|strong="H5975" and said|strong="H0559", Hear|strong="H8085" me, O Judah|strong="H3063", and ye inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389"; Believe|strong="H0539" in the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430", so shall ye be established|strong="H0539"; believe|strong="H0539" his prophets|strong="H5030", so shall ye prosper|strong="H6743".
21 And when he had consulted|strong="H3289" with the people|strong="H5971", he appointed|strong="H5975" singers|strong="H7891" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and that should praise|strong="H1984" the beauty|strong="H1927" of holiness|strong="H6944", as they went out|strong="H3318" before|strong="H6440" the army|strong="H2502", and to say|strong="H0559", Praise|strong="H3034" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; for his mercy|strong="H2617" endureth for ever|strong="H5769".
22 And when|strong="H6256" they began|strong="H2490" to sing|strong="H7440" and to praise|strong="H8416", the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* set|strong="H5414" ambushments|strong="H0693" against the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983", Moab|strong="H4124", and mount|strong="H2022" Seir|strong="H8165", which were come|strong="H0935" against Judah|strong="H3063"; and they were smitten|strong="H5062".
23 For the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983" and Moab|strong="H4124" stood up|strong="H5975" against the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of mount|strong="H2022" Seir|strong="H8165", utterly to slay|strong="H2763" and destroy|strong="H8045" them: and when they had made an end|strong="H3615" of the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Seir|strong="H8165", every one|strong="H0376" helped|strong="H5826" to destroy|strong="H4889" another|strong="H7453".
24 And when Judah|strong="H3063" came|strong="H0935" toward the watch tower|strong="H4707" in the wilderness|strong="H4057", they looked|strong="H6437" unto the multitude|strong="H1995", and, behold, they were dead bodies|strong="H6297" fallen|strong="H5307" to the earth|strong="H0776", and none escaped|strong="H6413".
25 And when Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" and his people|strong="H5971" came|strong="H0935" to take away|strong="H0962" the spoil|strong="H7998" of them, they found|strong="H4672" among them in abundance|strong="H7230" both riches|strong="H7399" with the dead bodies|strong="H6297", and precious|strong="H2532" jewels|strong="H3627", which they stripped off|strong="H5337" for themselves, more than|strong="H0369" they could carry away|strong="H4853": and they were three|strong="H7969" days|strong="H3117" in gathering|strong="H0962" of the spoil|strong="H7998", it was so much|strong="H7227".
26 And on the fourth|strong="H7243" day|strong="H3117" they assembled|strong="H6950" themselves in the valley|strong="H6010" of Berachah|strong="H1294"; for there they blessed|strong="H1288" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: therefore the name|strong="H8034" of the same place|strong="H4725" was called|strong="H7121", The valley|strong="H6010" of Berachah|strong="H1294", unto this day|strong="H3117".
27 Then they returned|strong="H7725", every man|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" in the forefront|strong="H7218" of them, to go again|strong="H7725" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389" with joy|strong="H8057"; for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had made them to rejoice|strong="H8055" over their enemies|strong="H0341".
28 And they came|strong="H0935" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389" with psalteries|strong="H5035" and harps|strong="H3658" and trumpets|strong="H2689" unto the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
29 And the fear|strong="H6343" of God|strong="H0430" was on all the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of those countries|strong="H0776", when they had heard|strong="H8085" that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* fought|strong="H3898" against the enemies|strong="H0341" of Israel|strong="H3478".
30 So the realm|strong="H4438" of Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" was quiet|strong="H8252": for his God|strong="H0430" gave him rest|strong="H5117" round about|strong="H5439".
31 And Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" reigned|strong="H4427" over Judah|strong="H3063": he was thirty|strong="H7970" and five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when he began to reign|strong="H4427", and he reigned|strong="H4427" twenty|strong="H6242" and five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389". And his mother’s|strong="H0517" name|strong="H8034" was Azubah|strong="H5806" the daughter|strong="H1323" of Shilhi|strong="H7977".
32 And he walked|strong="H3212" in the way|strong="H1870" of Asa|strong="H0609" his father|strong="H0001", and departed|strong="H5493" not from it, doing|strong="H6213" that which was right|strong="H3477" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
33 Howbeit the high places|strong="H1116" were not taken away|strong="H5493": for as yet the people|strong="H5971" had not prepared|strong="H3559" their hearts|strong="H3824" unto the God|strong="H0430" of their fathers|strong="H0001".
34 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092", first|strong="H7223" and last|strong="H0314", behold, they are written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H1697" of Jehu|strong="H3058" the son|strong="H1121" of Hanani|strong="H2607", who is mentioned|strong="H5927" in the book|strong="H5612" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478".
35 And after|strong="H0310" this did Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" join|strong="H2266" himself with Ahaziah|strong="H0274" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", who did|strong="H6213" very wickedly|strong="H7561":
36 And he joined|strong="H2266" himself with him to make|strong="H6213" ships|strong="H0591" to go|strong="H3212" to Tarshish|strong="H8659": and they made|strong="H6213" the ships|strong="H0591" in Ezion-geber|strong="H6100".
37 Then Eliezer|strong="H0461" the son|strong="H1121" of Dodavah|strong="H1735" of Mareshah|strong="H4762" prophesied|strong="H5012" against Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092", saying|strong="H0559", Because thou hast joined|strong="H2266" thyself with Ahaziah|strong="H0274", the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath broken|strong="H6555" thy works|strong="H4639". And the ships|strong="H0591" were broken|strong="H7665", that they were not able|strong="H6113" to go|strong="H3212" to Tarshish|strong="H8659".
