1 And Hannah|strong="H2584" prayed|strong="H6419", and said|strong="H0559", My heart|strong="H3820" rejoiceth|strong="H5970" in the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, mine horn|strong="H7161" is exalted|strong="H7311" in the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: my mouth|strong="H6310" is enlarged|strong="H7337" over mine enemies|strong="H0341"; because I rejoice|strong="H8055" in thy salvation|strong="H3444".
2 There is none holy|strong="H6918" as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: for there is none beside|strong="H1115" thee: neither is there any rock|strong="H6697" like our God|strong="H0430".
3 Talk|strong="H1696" no more|strong="H7235" so exceeding|strong="H1364" proudly|strong="H1364"; let not arrogancy|strong="H6277" come|strong="H3318" out of your mouth|strong="H6310": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is a God|strong="H0410" of knowledge|strong="H1844", and by him actions|strong="H5949" are weighed|strong="H8505".
4 The bows|strong="H7198" of the mighty men|strong="H1368" are broken|strong="H2844", and they that stumbled|strong="H3782" are girded|strong="H0247" with strength|strong="H2428".
5 They that were full|strong="H7649" have hired out|strong="H7936" themselves for bread|strong="H3899"; and they that were hungry|strong="H7457" ceased|strong="H2308": so that the barren|strong="H6135" hath born|strong="H3205" seven|strong="H7651"; and she that hath many|strong="H7227" children|strong="H1121" is waxed feeble|strong="H0535".
6 The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* killeth|strong="H4191", and maketh alive|strong="H2421": he bringeth down|strong="H3381" to the grave|strong="H7585", and bringeth up|strong="H5927".
7 The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* maketh poor|strong="H3423", and maketh rich|strong="H6238": he bringeth low|strong="H8213", and|strong="H0637" lifteth up|strong="H7311".
8 He raiseth up|strong="H6965" the poor|strong="H1800" out of the dust|strong="H6083", and lifteth up|strong="H7311" the beggar|strong="H0034" from the dunghill|strong="H0830", to set|strong="H3427" them among princes|strong="H5081", and to make them inherit|strong="H5157" the throne|strong="H3678" of glory|strong="H3519": for the pillars|strong="H4690" of the earth|strong="H0776" are the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w*, and he hath set|strong="H7896" the world|strong="H8398" upon them.
9 He will keep|strong="H8104" the feet|strong="H7272" of his saints|strong="H2623", and the wicked|strong="H7563" shall be silent|strong="H1826" in darkness|strong="H2822"; for by strength|strong="H3581" shall no man|strong="H0376" prevail|strong="H1396".
10 The adversaries|strong="H7378" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* shall be broken to pieces|strong="H2865"; out of heaven|strong="H8064" shall he thunder|strong="H7481" upon them: the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* shall judge|strong="H1777" the ends|strong="H0657" of the earth|strong="H0776"; and he shall give|strong="H5414" strength|strong="H5797" unto his king|strong="H4428", and exalt|strong="H7311" the horn|strong="H7161" of his anointed|strong="H4899".
11 And Elkanah|strong="H0511" went|strong="H3212" to Ramah|strong="H7414" to his house|strong="H1004". And the child|strong="H5288" did|strong="H1961" minister|strong="H8334" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* before|strong="H6440" Eli|strong="H5941" the priest|strong="H3548".
12 Now the sons|strong="H1121" of Eli|strong="H5941" were sons|strong="H1121" of Belial|strong="H1100"; they knew|strong="H3045" not the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
13 And the priests’|strong="H3548" custom|strong="H4941" with the people|strong="H5971" was, that, when any man|strong="H0376" offered|strong="H2076" sacrifice|strong="H2077", the priest’s|strong="H3548" servant|strong="H5288" came|strong="H0935", while the flesh|strong="H1320" was in seething|strong="H1310", with a fleshhook|strong="H4207" of three|strong="H7969" teeth|strong="H8127" in his hand|strong="H3027";
14 And he struck|strong="H5221" it into the pan|strong="H3595", or kettle|strong="H1731", or caldron|strong="H7037", or pot|strong="H6517"; all that the fleshhook|strong="H4207" brought up|strong="H5927" the priest|strong="H3548" took|strong="H3947" for himself. So they did|strong="H6213" in Shiloh|strong="H7887" unto all the Israelites|strong="H3478" that came|strong="H0935" thither.
15 Also before they burnt|strong="H6999" the fat|strong="H2459", the priest’s|strong="H3548" servant|strong="H5288" came|strong="H0935", and said|strong="H0559" to the man|strong="H0376" that sacrificed|strong="H2076", Give|strong="H5414" flesh|strong="H1320" to roast|strong="H6740" for the priest|strong="H3548"; for he will not have|strong="H3947" sodden|strong="H1310" flesh|strong="H1320" of thee, but raw|strong="H2416".
16 And if any man|strong="H0376" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Let them not fail|strong="H6999" to burn|strong="H6999" the fat|strong="H2459" presently|strong="H3117", and then take|strong="H3947" as much as thy soul|strong="H5315" desireth|strong="H0183"; then he would answer|strong="H0559" him, Nay; but thou shalt give|strong="H5414" it me now: and if not, I will take|strong="H3947" it by force|strong="H2394".
17 Wherefore the sin|strong="H2403" of the young men|strong="H5288" was very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H1419" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: for men|strong="H0582" abhorred|strong="H5006" the offering|strong="H4503" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
18 But Samuel|strong="H8050" ministered|strong="H8334" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, being a child|strong="H5288", girded|strong="H2296" with a linen|strong="H0906" ephod|strong="H0646".
19 Moreover his mother|strong="H0517" made|strong="H6213" him a little|strong="H6996" coat|strong="H4598", and brought|strong="H5927" it to him from year|strong="H3117" to year|strong="H3117", when she came up|strong="H5927" with her husband|strong="H0376" to offer|strong="H2076" the yearly|strong="H3117" sacrifice|strong="H2077".
20 And Eli|strong="H5941" blessed|strong="H1288" Elkanah|strong="H0511" and his wife|strong="H0802", and said|strong="H0559", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* give|strong="H7760" thee seed|strong="H2233" of this woman|strong="H0802" for the loan|strong="H7596" which is lent|strong="H7592" to the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. And they went|strong="H1980" unto their own home|strong="H4725".
21 And|strong="H3588" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* visited|strong="H6485" Hannah|strong="H2584", so that she conceived|strong="H2029", and bare|strong="H3205" three|strong="H7969" sons|strong="H1121" and two|strong="H8147" daughters|strong="H1323". And the child|strong="H5288" Samuel|strong="H8050" grew|strong="H1431" before|strong="H5973" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
22 Now Eli|strong="H5941" was very|strong="H3966" old|strong="H2204", and heard|strong="H8085" all that his sons|strong="H1121" did|strong="H6213" unto all Israel|strong="H3478"; and how they lay|strong="H7901" with the women|strong="H0802" that assembled|strong="H6633" at the door|strong="H6607" of the tabernacle|strong="H0168" of the congregation|strong="H4150".
23 And he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Why do|strong="H6213" ye such things|strong="H1697"? for I hear|strong="H8085" of your evil|strong="H7451" dealings|strong="H1697" by all this people|strong="H5971".
24 Nay, my sons|strong="H1121"; for it is no good|strong="H2896" report|strong="H8052" that I hear|strong="H8085": ye make the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* people|strong="H5971" to transgress|strong="H5674".
25 If one man|strong="H0376" sin|strong="H2398" against another|strong="H0376", the judge|strong="H0430" shall judge|strong="H6419" him: but if a man|strong="H0376" sin|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, who shall intreat|strong="H6419" for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened|strong="H8085" not unto the voice|strong="H6963" of their father|strong="H0001", because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* would|strong="H2654" slay|strong="H4191" them.
26 And the child|strong="H5288" Samuel|strong="H8050" grew|strong="H1432" on|strong="H1980", and was in favour|strong="H2896" both with the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and also with men|strong="H0582".
27 And there came|strong="H0935" a man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" unto Eli|strong="H5941", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Did I plainly|strong="H1540" appear|strong="H1540" unto the house|strong="H1004" of thy father|strong="H0001", when they were in Egypt|strong="H4714" in Pharaoh’s|strong="H6547" house|strong="H1004"?
28 And did I choose|strong="H0977" him out of all the tribes|strong="H7626" of Israel|strong="H3478" to be my priest|strong="H3548", to offer|strong="H5927" upon mine altar|strong="H4196", to burn|strong="H6999" incense|strong="H7004", to wear|strong="H5375" an ephod|strong="H0646" before|strong="H6440" me? and did I give|strong="H5414" unto the house|strong="H1004" of thy father|strong="H0001" all the offerings made by fire|strong="H0801" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478"?
29 Wherefore kick|strong="H1163" ye at my sacrifice|strong="H2077" and at mine offering|strong="H4503", which I have commanded|strong="H6680" in my habitation|strong="H4583"; and honourest|strong="H3513" thy sons|strong="H1121" above me, to make yourselves fat|strong="H1254" with the chiefest|strong="H7225" of all the offerings|strong="H4503" of Israel|strong="H3478" my people|strong="H5971"?
30 Wherefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" saith|strong="H5002", I said|strong="H0559" indeed|strong="H0559" that thy house|strong="H1004", and the house|strong="H1004" of thy father|strong="H0001", should walk|strong="H1980" before|strong="H6440" me for|strong="H5704" ever|strong="H5769": but now the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* saith|strong="H5002", Be it far from me|strong="H2486"; for them that honour|strong="H3513" me I will honour|strong="H3513", and they that despise|strong="H0959" me shall be lightly esteemed|strong="H7043".
31 Behold, the days|strong="H3117" come|strong="H0935", that I will cut off|strong="H1438" thine arm|strong="H2220", and the arm|strong="H2220" of thy father’s|strong="H0001" house|strong="H1004", that there shall not be an old man|strong="H2205" in thine house|strong="H1004".
32 And thou shalt see|strong="H5027" an enemy|strong="H6862" in my habitation|strong="H4583", in all the wealth which God shall give|strong="H3190" Israel|strong="H3478": and there shall not be an old man|strong="H2205" in thine house|strong="H1004" for ever|strong="H3117".
33 And the man|strong="H0376" of thine, whom I shall not cut off|strong="H3772" from mine altar|strong="H4196", shall be to consume|strong="H3615" thine eyes|strong="H5869", and to grieve|strong="H0109" thine heart|strong="H5315": and all the increase|strong="H4768" of thine house|strong="H1004" shall die|strong="H4191" in the flower of their age|strong="H0582".
34 And this shall be a sign|strong="H0226" unto thee, that shall come|strong="H0935" upon thy two|strong="H8147" sons|strong="H1121", on Hophni|strong="H2652" and Phinehas|strong="H6372"; in one|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117" they shall die|strong="H4191" both|strong="H8147" of them.
35 And I will raise me up|strong="H6965" a faithful|strong="H0539" priest|strong="H3548", that shall do|strong="H6213" according to that which is in mine heart|strong="H3824" and in my mind|strong="H5315": and I will build|strong="H1129" him a sure|strong="H0539" house|strong="H1004"; and he shall walk|strong="H1980" before|strong="H6440" mine anointed|strong="H4899" for ever|strong="H3117".
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left|strong="H3498" in thine house|strong="H1004" shall come|strong="H0935" and crouch|strong="H7812" to him for a piece|strong="H0095" of silver|strong="H3701" and a morsel|strong="H3603" of bread|strong="H3899", and shall say|strong="H0559", Put|strong="H5596" me, I pray thee, into one|strong="H0259" of the priests’ offices|strong="H3550", that I may eat|strong="H0398" a piece|strong="H6595" of bread|strong="H3899".
