Samuel 15

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Samuel|strong="H8050" also said|strong="H0559" unto Saul|strong="H7586", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" me to anoint|strong="H4886" thee to be king|strong="H4428" over his people|strong="H5971", over Israel|strong="H3478": now therefore hearken|strong="H8085" thou unto the voice|strong="H6963" of the words|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", I remember|strong="H6485" that which Amalek|strong="H6002" did|strong="H6213" to Israel|strong="H3478", how he laid|strong="H7760" wait for him in the way|strong="H1870", when he came up|strong="H5927" from Egypt|strong="H4714".

Now go|strong="H3212" and smite|strong="H5221" Amalek|strong="H6002", and utterly destroy|strong="H2763" all that they have, and spare|strong="H2550" them not; but slay|strong="H4191" both man|strong="H0376" and woman|strong="H0802", infant|strong="H5768" and suckling|strong="H3243", ox|strong="H7794" and sheep|strong="H7716", camel|strong="H1581" and ass|strong="H2543".

And Saul|strong="H7586" gathered|strong="H8085" the people|strong="H5971" together|strong="H8085", and numbered|strong="H6485" them in Telaim|strong="H2923", two hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505" footmen|strong="H7273", and ten|strong="H6235" thousand|strong="H0505" men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063".

And Saul|strong="H7586" came|strong="H0935" to a city|strong="H5892" of Amalek|strong="H6002", and laid wait|strong="H7378" in the valley|strong="H5158".

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559" unto the Kenites|strong="H7017", Go|strong="H3212", depart|strong="H5493", get you down|strong="H3381" from among|strong="H8432" the Amalekites|strong="H6002", lest I destroy|strong="H0622" you with them: for ye shewed|strong="H6213" kindness|strong="H2617" to all the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", when they came up|strong="H5927" out of Egypt|strong="H4714". So the Kenites|strong="H7017" departed|strong="H5493" from among|strong="H8432" the Amalekites|strong="H6003".

And Saul|strong="H7586" smote|strong="H5221" the Amalekites|strong="H6002" from Havilah|strong="H2341" until thou comest|strong="H0935" to Shur|strong="H7793", that is over against|strong="H6440" Egypt|strong="H4714".

And he took|strong="H8610" Agag|strong="H0090" the king|strong="H4428" of the Amalekites|strong="H6002" alive|strong="H2416", and utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" all the people|strong="H5971" with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719".

But Saul|strong="H7586" and the people|strong="H5971" spared|strong="H2550" Agag|strong="H0090", and the best|strong="H4315" of the sheep|strong="H6629", and of the oxen|strong="H1241", and of the fatlings|strong="H4932", and the lambs|strong="H3733", and all that was good|strong="H2896", and would|strong="H0014" not utterly destroy|strong="H2763" them: but every thing|strong="H4399" that was vile|strong="H5240" and refuse|strong="H4549", that they destroyed utterly|strong="H2763".

Then came the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto Samuel|strong="H8050", saying|strong="H0559",

It repenteth|strong="H5162" me that I have set up|strong="H4427" Saul|strong="H7586" to be king|strong="H4428": for he is turned back|strong="H7725" from following|strong="H0310" me, and hath not performed|strong="H6965" my commandments|strong="H1697". And it grieved|strong="H2734" Samuel|strong="H8050"; and he cried|strong="H2199" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* all night|strong="H3915".

And when Samuel|strong="H8050" rose early|strong="H7925" to meet|strong="H7125" Saul|strong="H7586" in the morning|strong="H1242", it was told|strong="H5046" Samuel|strong="H8050", saying|strong="H0559", Saul|strong="H7586" came|strong="H0935" to Carmel|strong="H3760", and, behold, he set him up|strong="H5324" a place|strong="H3027", and is gone about|strong="H5437", and passed on|strong="H5674", and gone down|strong="H3381" to Gilgal|strong="H1537".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" came|strong="H0935" to Saul|strong="H7586": and Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Blessed|strong="H1288" be thou of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: I have performed|strong="H6965" the commandment|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559", What meaneth then this bleating|strong="H6963" of the sheep|strong="H6629" in mine ears|strong="H0241", and the lowing|strong="H6963" of the oxen|strong="H1241" which I hear|strong="H8085"?

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559", They have brought|strong="H0935" them from the Amalekites|strong="H6003": for the people|strong="H5971" spared|strong="H2550" the best|strong="H4315" of the sheep|strong="H6629" and of the oxen|strong="H1241", to sacrifice|strong="H2076" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430"; and the rest|strong="H3498" we have utterly destroyed|strong="H2763".

Then Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559" unto Saul|strong="H7586", Stay|strong="H7503", and I will tell|strong="H5046" thee what the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath said|strong="H1696" to me this night|strong="H3915". And he said|strong="H0559" unto him, Say on|strong="H1696".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559", When thou wast little|strong="H6996" in thine own sight|strong="H5869", wast thou not made the head|strong="H7218" of the tribes|strong="H7626" of Israel|strong="H3478", and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* anointed|strong="H4886" thee king|strong="H4428" over Israel|strong="H3478"?

And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" thee on a journey|strong="H1870", and said|strong="H0559", Go|strong="H3212" and utterly destroy|strong="H2763" the sinners|strong="H2400" the Amalekites|strong="H6002", and fight|strong="H3898" against them until they be consumed|strong="H3615".

Wherefore then didst thou not obey|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, but didst fly|strong="H5860" upon the spoil|strong="H7998", and didst|strong="H6213" evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*?

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559" unto Samuel|strong="H8050", Yea, I have obeyed|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and have gone|strong="H3212" the way|strong="H1870" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" me, and have brought|strong="H0935" Agag|strong="H0090" the king|strong="H4428" of Amalek|strong="H6002", and have utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" the Amalekites|strong="H6002".

But the people|strong="H5971" took|strong="H3947" of the spoil|strong="H7998", sheep|strong="H6629" and oxen|strong="H1241", the chief|strong="H7225" of the things which should have been utterly destroyed|strong="H2764", to sacrifice|strong="H2076" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" in Gilgal|strong="H1537".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559", Hath the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* as great delight|strong="H2656" in burnt offerings|strong="H5930" and sacrifices|strong="H2077", as in obeying|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*? Behold, to obey|strong="H8085" is better|strong="H2896" than sacrifice|strong="H2077", and to hearken|strong="H7181" than the fat|strong="H2459" of rams|strong="H0352".

For rebellion|strong="H4805" is as the sin|strong="H2403" of witchcraft|strong="H7081", and stubbornness|strong="H6484" is as iniquity|strong="H0205" and idolatry|strong="H8655". Because thou hast rejected|strong="H3988" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, he hath also rejected|strong="H3988" thee from being king|strong="H4428".

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559" unto Samuel|strong="H8050", I have sinned|strong="H2398": for I have transgressed|strong="H5674" the commandment|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and thy words|strong="H1697": because I feared|strong="H3372" the people|strong="H5971", and obeyed|strong="H8085" their voice|strong="H6963".

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon|strong="H5375" my sin|strong="H2403", and turn again|strong="H7725" with me, that I may worship|strong="H7812" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559" unto Saul|strong="H7586", I will not return|strong="H7725" with thee: for thou hast rejected|strong="H3988" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath rejected|strong="H3988" thee from being king|strong="H4428" over Israel|strong="H3478".

And as Samuel|strong="H8050" turned about|strong="H5437" to go away|strong="H3212", he laid hold|strong="H2388" upon the skirt|strong="H3671" of his mantle|strong="H4598", and it rent|strong="H7167".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559" unto him, The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath rent|strong="H7167" the kingdom|strong="H4468" of Israel|strong="H3478" from thee this day|strong="H3117", and hath given|strong="H5414" it to a neighbour|strong="H7453" of thine, that is better|strong="H2896" than thou.

And also the Strength|strong="H5331" of Israel|strong="H3478" will not lie|strong="H8266" nor repent|strong="H5162": for he is not a man|strong="H0120", that he should repent|strong="H5162".

Then he said|strong="H0559", I have sinned|strong="H2398": yet honour|strong="H3513" me now, I pray thee, before the elders|strong="H2205" of my people|strong="H5971", and before Israel|strong="H3478", and turn again|strong="H7725" with me, that I may worship|strong="H7812" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430".

So Samuel|strong="H8050" turned again|strong="H7725" after|strong="H0310" Saul|strong="H7586"; and Saul|strong="H7586" worshipped|strong="H7812" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Then said|strong="H0559" Samuel|strong="H8050", Bring ye hither|strong="H5066" to me Agag|strong="H0090" the king|strong="H4428" of the Amalekites|strong="H6002". And Agag|strong="H0090" came|strong="H3212" unto him delicately|strong="H4574". And Agag|strong="H0090" said|strong="H0559", Surely|strong="H0403" the bitterness|strong="H4751" of death|strong="H4194" is past|strong="H5493".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559", As thy sword|strong="H2719" hath made women|strong="H0802" childless|strong="H7921", so shall thy mother|strong="H0517" be childless|strong="H7921" among women|strong="H0802". And Samuel|strong="H8050" hewed|strong="H8158" Agag|strong="H0090" in pieces|strong="H8158" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in Gilgal|strong="H1537".

Then Samuel|strong="H8050" went|strong="H3212" to Ramah|strong="H7414"; and Saul|strong="H7586" went up|strong="H5927" to his house|strong="H1004" to Gibeah|strong="H1390" of Saul|strong="H7586".

And Samuel|strong="H8050" came no more|strong="H3254" to see|strong="H7200" Saul|strong="H7586" until the day|strong="H3117" of his death|strong="H4194": nevertheless|strong="H3588" Samuel|strong="H8050" mourned|strong="H0056" for Saul|strong="H7586": and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* repented|strong="H5162" that he had made Saul|strong="H7586" king|strong="H4427" over Israel|strong="H3478".
