2 For|strong="G1063" he that|strong="G3588" speaketh|strong="G2980" in an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100" speaketh|strong="G2980" not|strong="G3756" unto men|strong="G0444", but|strong="G0235" unto God|strong="G2316": for|strong="G1063" no|strong="G3762" man understandeth|strong="G0191" him; howbeit|strong="G1161" in the spirit|strong="G4151" he speaketh|strong="G2980" mysteries|strong="G3466".
3 But|strong="G1161" he that|strong="G3588" prophesieth|strong="G4395" speaketh|strong="G2980" unto men|strong="G0444" to edification|strong="G3619", and|strong="G2532" exhortation|strong="G3874", and|strong="G2532" comfort|strong="G3889".
4 He that|strong="G3588" speaketh|strong="G2980" in an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100" edifieth|strong="G3618" himself|strong="G1438"; but|strong="G1161" he that|strong="G3588" prophesieth|strong="G4395" edifieth|strong="G3618" the church|strong="G1577".
5 I would|strong="G2309" that ye|strong="G5209" all|strong="G3956" spake|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100", but|strong="G1161" rather|strong="G3123" that|strong="G2443" ye prophesied|strong="G4395": for|strong="G1063" greater|strong="G3187" is he that|strong="G3588" prophesieth|strong="G4395" than|strong="G2228" he that|strong="G3588" speaketh|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100", except|strong="G1622" he interpret|strong="G1329", that|strong="G2443" the church|strong="G1577" may receive|strong="G2983" edifying|strong="G3619".
6 Now|strong="G3570", brethren|strong="G0080", if|strong="G1437" I come|strong="G2064" unto|strong="G4314" you|strong="G5209" speaking|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100", what|strong="G5101" shall I profit|strong="G5623" you|strong="G5209", except|strong="G1437" I shall speak|strong="G2980" to you|strong="G5213" either|strong="G2228" by|strong="G1722" revelation|strong="G0602", or|strong="G2228" by|strong="G1722" knowledge|strong="G1108", or|strong="G2228" by|strong="G1722" prophesying|strong="G4394", or|strong="G2228" by|strong="G1722" doctrine|strong="G1322"?
7 And even|strong="G3676" things|strong="G3588" without life|strong="G0895" giving|strong="G1325" sound|strong="G5456", whether|strong="G1535" pipe|strong="G0836" or|strong="G1535" harp|strong="G2788", except|strong="G1437" they give|strong="G1325" a distinction|strong="G1293" in the sounds|strong="G5353", how|strong="G4459" shall it be known|strong="G1097" what|strong="G3588" is piped|strong="G0832" or|strong="G2228" harped|strong="G2789"?
8 For|strong="G1063" if|strong="G1437" the trumpet|strong="G4536" give|strong="G1325" an uncertain|strong="G0082" sound|strong="G5456", who|strong="G5101" shall prepare himself|strong="G3903" to|strong="G1519" the battle|strong="G4171"?
9 So|strong="G3779" likewise|strong="G2532" ye|strong="G5210", except|strong="G1437" ye utter|strong="G1325" by|strong="G1223" the tongue|strong="G1100" words|strong="G3056" easy|strong="G2154" to be|strong="G2071" understood|strong="G2154", how|strong="G4459" shall it be known|strong="G1097" what|strong="G3588" is spoken|strong="G2980"? for|strong="G1063" ye shall speak|strong="G2980" into|strong="G1519" the air|strong="G0109".
10 There are|strong="G2076", it may|strong="G1487" be|strong="G5177", so many|strong="G5118" kinds|strong="G1085" of voices|strong="G5456" in|strong="G1722" the world|strong="G2889", and|strong="G2532" none|strong="G3762" of them|strong="G0846" is without signification|strong="G0880".
11 Therefore|strong="G3767" if|strong="G1437" I know|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" the meaning|strong="G1411" of the voice|strong="G5456", I shall be|strong="G2071" unto him|strong="G3588" that speaketh|strong="G2980" a barbarian|strong="G0915", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G3588" that speaketh|strong="G2980" shall be a barbarian|strong="G0915" unto|strong="G1722" me|strong="G1698".
12 Even|strong="G2532" so|strong="G3779" ye|strong="G5210", forasmuch as|strong="G1893" ye are|strong="G2075" zealous|strong="G2207" of spiritual|strong="G4151" gifts, seek|strong="G2212" that|strong="G2443" ye may excel|strong="G4052" to|strong="G4314" the edifying|strong="G3619" of the church|strong="G1577".
13 Wherefore|strong="G1355" let him|strong="G3588" that speaketh|strong="G2980" in an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100" pray|strong="G4336" that|strong="G2443" he may interpret|strong="G1329".
14 For|strong="G1063" if|strong="G1437" I pray|strong="G4336" in an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100", my|strong="G3450" spirit|strong="G4151" prayeth|strong="G4336", but|strong="G1161" my|strong="G3450" understanding|strong="G3563" is|strong="G2076" unfruitful|strong="G0175".
15 What|strong="G5101" is it|strong="G2076" then|strong="G3767"? I will pray|strong="G4336" with the spirit|strong="G4151", and|strong="G1161" I will pray|strong="G4336" with the understanding|strong="G3563" also|strong="G2532": I will sing|strong="G5567" with the spirit|strong="G4151", and|strong="G1161" I will sing|strong="G5567" with the understanding|strong="G3563" also|strong="G2532".
16 Else|strong="G1893" when|strong="G1437" thou shalt bless|strong="G2127" with the spirit|strong="G4151", how|strong="G4459" shall|strong="G0378" he that|strong="G3588" occupieth|strong="G0378" the room|strong="G5117" of the unlearned|strong="G2399" say|strong="G2046" Amen|strong="G0281" at|strong="G1909" thy|strong="G4674" giving of thanks|strong="G2169", seeing|strong="G1894" he understandeth|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3756" what|strong="G5101" thou sayest|strong="G3004"?
17 For|strong="G1063" thou|strong="G4771" verily|strong="G3303" givest thanks|strong="G2168" well|strong="G2573", but|strong="G0235" the other|strong="G2087" is|strong="G3618" not|strong="G3756" edified|strong="G3618".
18 I thank|strong="G2168" my|strong="G3450" God|strong="G2316", I speak|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100" more than|strong="G3123" ye|strong="G5216" all|strong="G3956":
19 Yet|strong="G0235" in|strong="G1722" the church|strong="G1577" I had rather|strong="G2309" speak|strong="G2980" five|strong="G4002" words|strong="G3056" with|strong="G1223" my|strong="G3450" understanding|strong="G3563", that|strong="G2443" by my voice I might teach|strong="G2727" others|strong="G0243" also|strong="G2532", than|strong="G2228" ten thousand|strong="G3463" words|strong="G3056" in|strong="G1722" an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100".
20 Brethren|strong="G0080", be|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3361" children|strong="G3813" in understanding|strong="G5424": howbeit|strong="G0235" in malice|strong="G2549" be ye children|strong="G3515", but|strong="G1161" in understanding|strong="G5424" be|strong="G1096" men|strong="G5046".
21 In|strong="G1722" the law|strong="G3551" it is written|strong="G1125", With|strong="G1722" men of other tongues|strong="G2084" and|strong="G2532" other|strong="G2087" lips|strong="G5491" will I speak|strong="G2980" unto this|strong="G5129" people|strong="G2992"; and|strong="G2532" yet for all that|strong="G3779" will they|strong="G1522" not|strong="G3761" hear|strong="G1522" me|strong="G3450", saith|strong="G3004" the Lord|strong="G2962".
22 Wherefore|strong="G5620" tongues|strong="G1100" are|strong="G1526" for|strong="G1519" a sign|strong="G4592", not|strong="G3756" to them|strong="G3588" that believe|strong="G4100", but|strong="G0235" to them|strong="G3588" that believe not|strong="G0571": but|strong="G1161" prophesying|strong="G4394" serveth not|strong="G3756" for them|strong="G3588" that believe not|strong="G0571", but|strong="G0235" for them|strong="G3588" which believe|strong="G4100".
23 If|strong="G1437" therefore|strong="G3767" the whole|strong="G3650" church|strong="G1577" be come together|strong="G4905" into|strong="G1909" one place|strong="G0846", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" speak|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100", and|strong="G1161" there come in|strong="G1525" those that are unlearned|strong="G2399", or|strong="G2228" unbelievers|strong="G0571", will they|strong="G2046" not|strong="G3756" say|strong="G2046" that|strong="G3754" ye are mad|strong="G3105"?
24 But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" all|strong="G3956" prophesy|strong="G4395", and|strong="G1161" there come in|strong="G1525" one|strong="G5100" that believeth not|strong="G0571", or|strong="G2228" one unlearned|strong="G2399", he is convinced|strong="G1651" of|strong="G5259" all|strong="G3956", he is judged|strong="G0350" of|strong="G5259" all|strong="G3956":
25 And|strong="G2532" thus|strong="G3779" are|strong="G1096" the secrets|strong="G2927" of his|strong="G0846" heart|strong="G2588" made|strong="G1096" manifest|strong="G5318"; and|strong="G2532" so|strong="G3779" falling down|strong="G4098" on|strong="G1909" his face|strong="G4383" he will worship|strong="G4352" God|strong="G2316", and report|strong="G0518" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2076" in|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5213" of a truth|strong="G3689".
26 How|strong="G5101" is it|strong="G2076" then|strong="G3767", brethren|strong="G0080"? when|strong="G3752" ye come together|strong="G4905", every one|strong="G1538" of you|strong="G5216" hath|strong="G2192" a psalm|strong="G5568", hath|strong="G2192" a doctrine|strong="G1322", hath|strong="G2192" a tongue|strong="G1100", hath|strong="G2192" a revelation|strong="G0602", hath|strong="G2192" an interpretation|strong="G2058". Let|strong="G1096" all things|strong="G3956" be done|strong="G1096" unto|strong="G4314" edifying|strong="G3619".
27 If|strong="G1535" any man|strong="G5100" speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2596" an|strong="G1100" unknown tongue|strong="G1100", let it be by|strong="G0303" two|strong="G1417", or|strong="G2228" at the most|strong="G4118" by three|strong="G5140", and|strong="G2532" that by course|strong="G3313"; and|strong="G2532" let|strong="G1329" one|strong="G1520" interpret|strong="G1329".
28 But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" there be|strong="G5600" no|strong="G3361" interpreter|strong="G1328", let him keep silence|strong="G4601" in|strong="G1722" the church|strong="G1577"; and|strong="G1161" let him speak|strong="G2980" to himself|strong="G1438", and|strong="G2532" to God|strong="G2316".
29 Let|strong="G1161" the prophets|strong="G4396" speak|strong="G2980" two|strong="G1417" or|strong="G2228" three|strong="G5140", and|strong="G2532" let|strong="G1252" the other|strong="G0243" judge|strong="G1252".
30 If|strong="G1437" any thing be revealed|strong="G0601" to another|strong="G0243" that sitteth by|strong="G2521", let|strong="G4601" the first|strong="G4413" hold his peace|strong="G4601".
31 For|strong="G1063" ye may|strong="G1410" all|strong="G3956" prophesy|strong="G4395" one|strong="G1520" by|strong="G2596" one|strong="G1520", that|strong="G2443" all|strong="G3956" may learn|strong="G3129", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" may be comforted|strong="G3870".
32 And|strong="G2532" the spirits|strong="G4151" of the prophets|strong="G4396" are subject|strong="G5293" to the prophets|strong="G4396".
33 For|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2076" not|strong="G3756" the author of confusion|strong="G0181", but|strong="G0235" of peace|strong="G1515", as|strong="G5613" in|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3956" churches|strong="G1577" of the saints|strong="G0040".
34 Let your|strong="G5216" women|strong="G1135" keep silence|strong="G4601" in|strong="G1722" the churches|strong="G1577": for|strong="G1063" it is|strong="G2010" not|strong="G3756" permitted|strong="G2010" unto them|strong="G0846" to speak|strong="G2980"; but|strong="G0235" they are commanded to be under obedience|strong="G5293", as|strong="G2531" also|strong="G2532" saith|strong="G3004" the law|strong="G3551".
35 And|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" they will|strong="G2309" learn|strong="G3129" any thing|strong="G5100", let them ask|strong="G1905" their|strong="G2398" husbands|strong="G0435" at|strong="G1722" home|strong="G3624": for|strong="G1063" it is|strong="G2076" a shame|strong="G0150" for women|strong="G1135" to speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G1722" the church|strong="G1577".
36 What|strong="G2228"? came|strong="G1831" the word|strong="G3056" of God|strong="G2316" out|strong="G1831" from|strong="G0575" you|strong="G5216"? or|strong="G2228" came it|strong="G2658" unto|strong="G1519" you|strong="G5209" only|strong="G3441"?
37 If|strong="G1487" any man|strong="G5100" think himself|strong="G1380" to be|strong="G1511" a prophet|strong="G4396", or|strong="G2228" spiritual|strong="G4152", let him acknowledge|strong="G1921" that the things|strong="G3739" that|strong="G3754" I write|strong="G1125" unto you|strong="G5213" are|strong="G1526" the commandments|strong="G1785" of the Lord|strong="G2962".
38 But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" any man|strong="G5100" be ignorant|strong="G0050", let him be ignorant|strong="G0050".
39 Wherefore|strong="G5620", brethren|strong="G0080", covet|strong="G2206" to prophesy|strong="G4395", and|strong="G2532" forbid|strong="G2967" not|strong="G3361" to speak|strong="G2980" with tongues|strong="G1100".
40 Let all things|strong="G3956" be done|strong="G1096" decently|strong="G2156" and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2596" order|strong="G5010".
