1 For you yourselves know, brothers, [regarding] our coming to you, that it was not in vain.
1 Vocês sabem muito bem, irmãos, que a nossa visita não ficou sem proveito.
2 But suffering before and being spitefully treated at Philippi, just as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much conflict.
2 Sabem também como fomos maltratados e insultados na cidade de Filipos, antes de chegarmos aí em Tessalônica. Fomos muito combatidos, mas o nosso Deus nos deu coragem para anunciar a vocês a boa notícia que vem dele.
3 For our exhortation [was ]not from error nor from uncleanness, nor in trickery,
3 Aquilo que anunciamos a vocês não se baseia em erros ou em má intenção; e também não tentamos enganar ninguém.
4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who is testing our hearts.
4 Pelo contrário, sempre falamos como Deus quer que falemos, porque ele nos aprovou e nos deu a tarefa de anunciar o evangelho . Não queremos agradar as pessoas, mas a Deus, que põe à prova as nossas intenções.
5 For neither were we using flattering speech, as you know, nor covering up greed, God is [our ]witness.
5 Pois vocês sabem muito bem que não usamos palavras bonitas para enganar vocês, nem procuramos tapear vocês para conseguir dinheiro. Deus é testemunha disso.
6 Nor seeking glory from men, neither from you, nor from others, even though we were able to carry weight as apostles of Christ.
6 Nunca procuramos elogios de ninguém, nem de vocês nem de outros.
7 But we proved to be gentle in your midst, as a nursing [mother] cherishes her own children.
7 No entanto, tínhamos o direito de exigir de vocês alguma coisa, por sermos apóstolos de Cristo. Mas, quando estivemos com vocês, nós fomos como crianças, fomos como uma mãe ao cuidar dos seus filhos.
8 In this way longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
8 Nós os amávamos tanto, que gostaríamos de ter dado a vocês não somente a boa notícia que vem de Deus, mas até mesmo a nossa própria vida. Como nós os amávamos!
9 For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.
9 Irmãos, vocês com certeza lembram de como trabalhamos e lutamos para ganhar o nosso sustento. Trabalhávamos de dia e de noite a fim de não sermos uma carga para vocês, enquanto anunciávamos a vocês a boa notícia que vem de Deus.
10 You are witnesses, and [so is ]God, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we were among you that believe;
10 Vocês são nossas testemunhas e Deus também de que o nosso comportamento entre vocês que creram foi limpo, correto e sem nenhuma falha.
11 as indeed you know how each one of you, as a father [to] his own children, we exhorted, and comforted [you], and imploring you,
11 Vocês sabem que tratamos cada um como um pai trata os seus filhos.
12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
12 Nós os animamos e aconselhamos para que vocês vivessem de uma maneira que agrade a Deus, que os chama para terem parte no seu Reino e na sua glória .
13 Because of this we also give thanks to God unceasingly, so that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you received not the word of men, but just as it truly is, the word of God, which also is at work in you that believe.
13 E existe outra razão pela qual sempre damos graças a Deus. Quando levamos a vocês a mensagem de Deus, vocês a ouviram e aceitaram. Não a aceitaram como uma mensagem que vem de pessoas, mas como a mensagem que vem de Deus, o que, de fato, ela é. Pois Deus está agindo em vocês, os que creem.
14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because you suffered the same things from your fellow countrymen, just as also they [did] by the Jews,
14 Meus irmãos, o que aconteceu com vocês já havia acontecido também com as igrejas de Deus na Judeia, com o povo dali que pertence a Cristo Jesus. Vocês foram perseguidos pelos seus próprios patrícios do mesmo modo que os cristãos da Judeia foram perseguidos pelos judeus.
15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and [are] against all men,
15 Foram os judeus que mataram o Senhor Jesus e os profetas e também nos perseguiram. Eles desagradam a Deus e são inimigos de todos.
16 forbidding us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved, so as always to fill up [the measure of] their sins; but the wrath [of God ]has come upon them to the uttermost.
16 Tentam até nos impedir de anunciarmos a mensagem de salvação aos não judeus. Com isso eles completam o total dos pecados que eles têm cometido. Mas agora o castigo de Deus caiu finalmente sobre eles.
17 But we, brothers, being unwillingly separated from you for a short season, in presence, not in heart, were all the more eager to see your face with much desire.
17 Irmãos, nós tivemos de nos separar de vocês por algum tempo. Estamos longe dos olhos, mas perto do coração. Sentimos muitas saudades de vocês e gostaríamos de vê-los outra vez.
18 Therefore we desired to come to you-I, Paul, time and again, but Satan hindered us.
18 Por isso quisemos ir até aí e fazer uma visita a vocês. Pelo menos eu, Paulo, quis fazer isso mais de uma vez, mas Satanás não nos deixou.
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? [Is] it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?
19 Afinal, quando o nosso Senhor Jesus vier, vocês e ninguém mais são de modo todo especial a nossa esperança, a nossa alegria e o nosso motivo de satisfação, diante dele, pela nossa vitória.
20 For you are our glory and joy.
20 Sim, vocês são o nosso orgulho e a nossa alegria!
