¹ Moreover Elihu answered, and said,

¹ Disse mais Eliú:

² What [is] this thou think in judgment? Who are thou that thou said, I am righteousness before LORD?

² Tens por direito dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

³ That thou said, What advantage will it be to thee? [And], What profit shall I have more than if I had sinned?

³ Porque dizes: Que me aproveita? Que proveito tenho mais do que se eu tivera pecado?

⁴ I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

⁴ Eu te darei respostas, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

⁵ Look to the heavens, and see. And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

⁵ Atenta para os céus, e vê; e contempla o firmamento que é mais alto do que tu.

⁶ If thou have sinned, what do thou effect against him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what do thou to him?

⁶ Se pecares, que efetuarás contra ele? Se as tuas transgressões se multiplicarem, que lhe farás com isso?

⁷ If thou be righteous, what do thou give him? Or what does he receive of thy hand?

⁷ Se fores justo, que lhe darás, ou que receberá ele da tua mão?

⁸ Thy wickedness [is] a man as thou are, and thy righteousness [is] a son of man.

⁸ A tua impiedade poderia fazer mal a outro tal como tu; e a tua justiça poderia aproveitar a um filho do homem.

⁹ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.

⁹ Por causa da multidão das opressões os homens clamam; clamam por socorro por causa do braço dos poderosos.

¹⁰ But none says, Where is God my maker who gives songs in the night,

¹⁰ Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus meu Criador, que inspira canções durante a noite;

¹¹ who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

¹¹ que nos ensina mais do que aos animais da terra, e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves do céu?

¹² There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.

¹² Ali clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância os maus.

¹³ Surely God will not hear an empty [cry], nor will the Almighty regard it.

¹³ Certo é que Deus não ouve o grito da vaidade, nem para ela atentará o Todo-Poderoso.

¹⁴ How much less when thou say thou do not behold him. The case is before him, and thou wait for him!

¹⁴ Quanto menos quando tu dizes que não o vês. A causa está perante ele; por isso espera nele.

¹⁵ But now, because he has not visited in his anger, nor does he greatly regard folly,

¹⁵ Mas agora, porque a sua ira ainda não se exerce, nem grandemente considera ele a arrogância,

¹⁶ so Job opens his mouth in vanity. He multiplies words without knowledge.

¹⁶ por isso abre Jó em vão a sua boca, e sem conhecimento multiplica palavras.
