8 and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.

9 But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;
10 Ka̱ ya te, o kur pa̱ ma wór pa̱ onəm ka̱t. Ǹyangmata̱ jiwo te, mmawó onəm Inan. Ka̱ ya te, o nyi iya̱m va̱ mí wór pa̱ nnyam nrwa ìgwak ka̱t. Ǹyangmata̱ te, o ya nnyam nrwa ìgwak chit.
10 who once {were} not a people, but now God's people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.
11 Ónəm mi oma̱nma̱n, mmami ka̱ nchal wo pa̱ wa onəmchən ka̱ oɗyanəm apambin te, re o gbà̱ng ka̱ nnap-nnəm anəm ngga aɗom aga izər va ka̱ nlung irirì wo a.
11 Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12 having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.
13 Re ka̱kul aPonzhi uYesu te, o ra ká̱ ishi n̂kpaktak ichumchum va ma pak ija anəm a. Mo te, ûponzhi nggo. Ka̱kul uwa ishi pa̱ kpaktak.

14 or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.

15 Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;
16 O təm wa onəm va iya̱m ro pa ikan ôza̱ ka̱t a. Ka̱ nna kpa te, kan o yar nfe nchang wo va̱ ta a sat iya̱m iga nkpán awo iga nnəm nnap-mɓá̱ngɓa̱ng ka̱t. O təm wa onəm oga nnəm izwal Înan.
16 as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God's bondmen.
17 O nak inəm n̂za̱ unəm nggo pa̱ kpaktak. O ma̱n ogənan oga nna nnandər pa̱ kpaktak. O ra ayər Inan. O na ichumchum ûponzhi va̱ uwa ishi pa̱ kpaktak a.
17 Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.
18 Ónəm va̱ ozwal, o kpak nnap nnəm ônəm ga nzhí wo ka̱ ashe iya̱m pa̱ kpaktak nzəng ka̱ nnak inəm ôza̱. O kpak nnap nnəm ônəm va chwat oga nnyi nnap, ka̱t te onəm va i nəm nnap te, i dədər ka̱ ka̱t. Onəm va̱ ɗuɗul, ka̱t te səsai te, o kpak nnap nnəm ôza̱ kpa.
18 Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.
19 A ɓyen pari a yà pa̱ ma mwàn unəm ma ɓək anung á na kang uza̱ sar ìgwak ká̱ ka̱kul pa̱ uza̱ nyi iya̱m va̱ nyi Inan ɗom a.
19 For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.
20 A yà nnyi pa̱ ma nəm asap ûnəm ka̱kul pa̱ uza̱ nəm iya̱m i ngga kang uza̱ sar ìgwak ka̱ te, nza̱ mmak uza̱ i ya yà? A yà pa̱ unəm ɓək anung ka̱kul pa̱ uza̱ nəm iya̱m inəna̱n te, i ɓyen ká̱ Inan ɓyen.
20 For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.
21 Ka̱kul iya̱m va ta̱ pa̱ wat mmá wór wo. Pa̱ uYesu ɓək anung chit ka̱kul wo. Uza̱ re nnap nnəm á wo chit nva pa̱ o ɗyang na o yar nvəva̱ng.
21 For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:
22 Uza̱ nəm nnap mɓá̱ngɓa̱ng ko pa̱ nzəng ka̱t. Nnap nlà ngga ntàng atak ro fa ka̱ anunung ka̱t.
22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;
23 Mma pwat na te, uza̱ pyát ka̱t. Ma ɓək anung á na te, uza̱ lyen ka̱t. Uza̱ re nkpaktak iya̱m na chwat ka̱ ashe awo ánəm uga ngəl akwali va i mà pa̱ dakdak a.
23 who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;
24 uYesu Kəristi uwa ká̱ ishi wò ka̱m nsur nnap-mɓá̱ngɓa̱ng yi ká̱ izər wò nva̱ uza̱ kú ka̱ apal akun ikú na i kong ka̱ nnap-mɓá̱ngɓa̱ng wa onəm va kú chit. Na i təm ntəm yi ka̱ ashe nnap nnəm nnəna̱n. Ko oga aɓang va uza̱ ka̱m te, ma tàn wo ka̱ nna.
24 who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.

25 For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
