1 Then it came to pass, at the end of two years of days, that Pharaoh was dreaming: And behold, he was standing by the river.
1 Dois anos se passaram. Um dia o rei do Egito sonhou que estava de pé na beira do rio Nilo.
2 And behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fine looking and fat of flesh; and they fed in the marshes.
2 De repente, saíram do rio sete vacas bonitas e gordas, que começaram a comer o capim da beira do rio.
3 And behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, bad looking and thin of flesh, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.
3 Logo em seguida saíram do rio outras sete vacas, feias e magras, que foram ficar perto das primeiras vacas, na beira do rio.
4 And the bad looking and thin-fleshed cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.
4 E as vacas feias e magras engoliram as bonitas e gordas. Aí o rei acordou.
5 And he went to sleep and dreamed a second time; and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, plump and good.
5 Mas tornou a dormir e teve outro sonho. Desta vez ele viu sete espigas de trigo que saíam de um mesmo pé; elas eram boas e cheias de grãos.
6 And behold, seven thin heads, scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them.
6 Depois saíram sete espigas secas e queimadas pelo vento quente do deserto
7 And the seven thin heads devoured the seven plump and full heads. And Pharaoh awoke, and lo, it was a dream.
7 e elas engoliram as sete espigas cheias e boas. O rei acordou: tinha sido um sonho.
8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and summoned all the astrologers of Egypt and all its wise men. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.
8 De manhã ele estava muito preocupado e por isso mandou chamar todos os adivinhos e todos os sábios do Egito. O rei contou os seus sonhos, mas nenhum dos sábios foi capaz de dar a explicação.
9 Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying: I remember my offenses this day.
9 Então o chefe dos copeiros disse ao rei: — Chegou a hora de confessar um erro que cometi.
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me into custody in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker,
10 Um dia o senhor ficou com raiva de mim e do chefe dos padeiros e nos mandou para a cadeia, na casa do capitão da guarda.
11 we each dreamed a dream in one night, he and I. Each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his dream.
11 Certa noite cada um de nós teve um sonho, e cada sonho queria dizer uma coisa.
12 And there was a Hebrew lad with us there, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; to each man he interpreted according to his dream.
12 Lá na cadeia estava com a gente um moço hebreu, que era escravo do capitão da guarda. Contamos a esse moço os nossos sonhos, e ele explicou o que queriam dizer.
13 And it came to pass, just as he interpreted for us, so it happened. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.
13 E tudo deu certo, exatamente como ele havia falado. Eu voltei para o meu serviço, e o padeiro foi enforcado.
14 Then Pharaoh sent and summoned Joseph, and they rushed him out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.
14 Então o rei mandou chamar José, e foram depressa tirá-lo da cadeia. Ele fez a barba, trocou de roupa e se apresentou ao rei.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.
15 Então o rei disse: — Eu tive um sonho que ninguém conseguiu explicar. Ouvi dizer que você é capaz de explicar sonhos.
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is someone besides me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
16 — Isso não depende de mim — respondeu José. — É Deus quem vai dar uma resposta para o bem do senhor, ó rei.
17 And Pharaoh said to Joseph: Behold, in my dream I stood on the bank of the river.
17 Aí o rei disse: — Sonhei que estava de pé na beira do rio Nilo.
18 And behold, seven cows came up out of the river, fat of flesh and fine looking; and they fed in the marshes.
18 De repente, saíram do rio sete vacas bonitas e gordas, que começaram a comer o capim da beira do rio.
19 And behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very bad looking and thin of flesh, such badness as I have never seen in all the land of Egypt.
19 Depois saíram do rio outras sete vacas, mas estas eram feias e magras. Em toda a minha vida eu nunca vi no Egito vacas tão feias como aquelas.
20 And the thin and bad cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
20 E as vacas feias e magras engoliram as bonitas e gordas,
21 And when they had entered their stomachs, it would not have been known that they had entered their stomachs, for they looked just as bad as at the beginning. So I awoke.
21 mas nem dava para notar isso, pois elas continuavam tão feias como antes. Então eu acordei.
22 Also I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good.
22 Depois tive outro sonho. Eu vi sete espigas de trigo boas e cheias de grãos, as quais saíam de um mesmo pé.
23 And behold, seven heads, withered, thin, and scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them.
23 Depois saíram sete espigas secas e queimadas pelo vento quente do deserto
24 And the thin heads devoured the seven good heads. And I told this to the astrologers, but no one could explain it to me.
24 e elas engoliram as sete espigas cheias e boas. Eu contei os sonhos aos adivinhos, mas nenhum deles foi capaz de explicá-los.
25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do:
25 Então José disse ao rei: — Os dois sonhos querem dizer a mesma coisa. Por meio deles Deus está dizendo ao senhor o que ele vai fazer.
26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years; the dreams are one.
26 As sete vacas bonitas são sete anos, e as sete espigas boas também são. Os dois sonhos querem dizer uma coisa só.
27 And the seven thin and bad cows which came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty heads scorched by the east wind are seven years of famine.
27 As sete vacas magras e feias que saíram do rio depois das bonitas e também as sete espigas secas e queimadas pelo vento quente do deserto são sete anos em que vai faltar comida.
28 This is the word which I have spoken to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
28 É exatamente como eu disse: Deus mostrou ao senhor, ó rei, o que ele vai fazer.
29 Behold, seven years of great plenty are coming throughout all the land of Egypt;
29 Virão sete anos em que vai haver muito alimento em todo o Egito.
30 and after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land.
30 Depois virão sete anos de fome.
31 And the plenty will not be perceived in the land because of the famine following after, for it will be very severe.
31 E a fome será tão terrível, que ninguém lembrará do tempo em que houve muito alimento no Egito.
32 And the dream was repeated unto Pharaoh twice because the thing is determined by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
32 A repetição do sonho quer dizer que Deus resolveu fazer isso e vai fazer logo.
33 Now therefore, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.
33 E José continuou: — Portanto, será bom que o senhor, ó rei, escolha um homem inteligente e sábio e o ponha para dirigir o país.
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint deputies over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven years of plenty.
34 O rei também deve escolher homens que ficarão encarregados de viajar por todo o país para recolher a quinta parte de todas as colheitas, durante os sete anos em que elas forem boas.
35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain for food in the cities under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them guard it.
35 Durante os anos bons que estão chegando, esses homens ajuntarão todo o trigo que puderem e o guardarão em armazéns nas cidades, sendo tudo controlado pelo senhor.
36 And that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.
36 Assim, o mantimento servirá para abastecer o país durante os sete anos de fome no Egito, e o povo não morrerá de fome.
37 And the word was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.
37 O conselho de José agradou ao rei e aos seus funcionários.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?
38 E o rei lhes disse: — Não poderíamos achar ninguém melhor para dirigir o país do que José, um homem em quem está o Espírito de Deus.
39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Inasmuch as God has made all this known to you, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.
39 Depois virou-se para José e disse: — Deus lhe mostrou tudo isso, e assim está claro que não há ninguém que tenha mais capacidade e sabedoria do que você.
40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.
40 Você vai ficar encarregado do meu palácio, e todo o meu povo obedecerá às suas ordens. Só eu terei mais autoridade do que você, pois sou o rei.
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.
41 Neste momento eu o ponho como governador de todo o Egito.
42 And Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Josephs hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.
42 Então o rei tirou do dedo o seu anel-sinete e o colocou no dedo de José. Em seguida mandou que o vestissem com roupas de linho fino e pôs uma corrente de ouro no pescoço dele.
43 And he made him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, Bow the knee! So he set him over all the land of Egypt.
43 Depois fez com que José subisse no carro reservado para a maior autoridade do Egito depois do rei e mandou que os seus homens fossem na frente dele, gritando: “Abram caminho!” Assim, José foi posto como governador de todo o Egito.
44 And Pharaoh also said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without you no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
44 O rei disse a José: — Eu sou o rei, mas sem a sua licença ninguém poderá fazer nada em toda a terra do Egito. José tinha trinta anos quando entrou para o serviço do rei do Egito. Ele saiu da presença do rei e viajou por todo o Egito.
45 And Pharaoh called Josephs name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

46 Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 And in the seven years of plenty the land brought forth by handfuls.
47 Durante os sete anos de fartura a terra produziu cereais em grande quantidade.
48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; he laid up in every city the food of the fields which surrounded them.
48 E José ajuntou todos os cereais e os guardou em armazéns nas cidades, ficando em cada cidade os cereais colhidos nos campos vizinhos.
49 And Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.
49 José ajuntou tanto mantimento, que desistiu de pesar, pois não dava mais: parecia a areia da praia do mar.
50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.
50 Antes de começarem os anos de fome, José teve dois filhos com a sua mulher Asenate.
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God has made me forget all my toil and all my fathers house.
51 Pôs no primeiro o nome de Manassés e explicou assim: “Deus me fez esquecer todos os meus sofrimentos e toda a família do meu pai.”
52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
52 No segundo filho pôs o nome de Efraim e disse: “Deus me deu filhos no país onde tenho sofrido.”
53 And the seven years of plenty which were in the land of Egypt ended,
53 Então acabaram-se os sete anos de fartura no Egito,
54 and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. And the famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
54 e, como José tinha dito, começaram os sete anos de fome. Nos outros países o povo passava fome, mas em todo o Egito havia o que comer.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was hungry, the people cried out to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do.
55 Quando os egípcios começaram a passar fome, foram pedir alimentos ao rei. Ele disse: — Vão falar com José e façam o que ele disser.
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth, and Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians. And the famine became severe in the land of Egypt.
56 Quando a fome aumentou no país inteiro, José abriu todos os armazéns e começou a vender cereais aos egípcios.
57 And all earth came to Joseph in Egypt to buy, because the famine was severe in all the earth.
57 E de todos os países vinha gente ao Egito para comprar cereais de José, pois no mundo inteiro havia uma grande falta de alimentos.
