1 And Jhesus answeride, and spak eftsoone in parablis to hem,
1 Jesus lhes contou outras parábolas. Disse ele:
2 and seide, The kyngdom of heuenes is maad lijk to a kyng that made weddyngis to his sone.
2 “O reino dos céus pode ser ilustrado com a história de um rei que preparou um grande banquete de casamento para seu filho.
3 And he sente hise seruauntis for to clepe men that weren bode to the weddyngis, and thei wolden not come.
3 Quando o banquete estava pronto, o rei enviou seus servos para avisar os convidados, mas todos se recusaram a vir.
4 Eftsoone he sente othere seruauntis, and seide, Seie ye to the men that ben bode to the feeste, Lo! Y haue maad redi my meete, my bolis and my volatilis ben slayn, and alle thingis ben redy; come ye to the weddyngis.
4 “Então ele enviou outros servos para lhes dizer: ‘Já preparei o banquete; os bois e novilhos gordos foram abatidos, e tudo está pronto. Venham para a festa!’.
5 But thei dispisiden, and wenten forth, oon in to his toun, anothir to his marchaundise. But othere helden his seruauntis, and turmentiden hem, and slowen.
5 Mas os convidados não lhes deram atenção e foram embora: um para sua fazenda, outro para seus negócios.

6 Outros, ainda, agarraram os mensageiros, os insultaram e os mataram.
7 But the kyng, whanne he hadde herd, was wroth; and he sente hise oostis, and he distruyede tho manquelleris, and brente her citee.
7 “O rei ficou furioso e enviou seu exército para destruir os assassinos e queimar a cidade deles.
8 Thanne he seide to hise seruauntis, The weddyngis ben redi, but thei that weren clepid to the feeste, weren not worthi.
8 Disse a seus servos: ‘O banquete de casamento está pronto, e meus convidados não são dignos dessa honra.
9 Therfor go ye to the endis of weies, and whom euere ye fynden, clepe ye to the weddyngis.
9 Agora, saiam pelas esquinas e convidem todos que vocês encontrarem’.
10 And hise seruauntis yeden out in to weies, and gadriden togider alle that thei founden, good and yuele; and the bridale was fulfillid with men sittynge at the mete.
10 Então os servos trouxeram todos que encontraram, tanto bons como maus, e o salão do banquete se encheu de convidados.
11 And the kyng entride, to se men sittynge at the mete; and he siye there a man not clothid with bride cloth.
11 “Quando o rei entrou para recebê-los, notou um homem que não estava vestido de forma apropriada para um casamento
12 And he seide to hym, Freend, hou entridist thou hidir with out bride clothis? And he was doumbe.
12 e perguntou-lhe: ‘Amigo, como é que você se apresenta sem a roupa de casamento?’. O homem não teve o que responder.
13 Thanne the kyng bad hise mynystris, Bynde hym bothe hondis and feet, and sende ye him in to vtmer derknessis; there schal be wepyng and grentyng of teeth.
13 Então o rei disse: ‘Amarrem-lhe as mãos e os pés e lancem-no para fora, na escuridão, onde haverá choro e ranger de dentes’.
14 For many ben clepid, but fewe ben chosun.
14 “Pois muitos são chamados, mas poucos são escolhidos”.
15 Thanne Farisees yeden awei, and token a counsel to take Jhesu in word.
15 Então os fariseus se reuniram para tramar um modo de levar Jesus a dizer algo que desse motivo para o prenderem.
16 And thei senden to hym her disciplis, with Erodians, and seien, Maister, we witen, that thou art sothefast, and thou techist in treuthe the weie of God, and thou chargist not of ony man, for thou biholdist not the persoone of men.
16 Enviaram alguns de seus discípulos, junto com os partidários de Herodes, para se encontrarem com ele. Disseram: “Mestre, sabemos como o senhor é honesto e ensina o caminho de Deus de acordo com a verdade. É imparcial e não demonstra favoritismo.
17 Therfor seie to vs, what it seemeth to thee. Is it leueful that tribute be youun to the emperoure, ether nay?
17 Agora, diga-nos o que o senhor pensa a respeito disto: É certo pagar impostos a César ou não?”.
18 And whanne Jhesus hadde knowe the wickidnesse of hem, he seide, Ypocritis, what tempten ye me?
18 Jesus, porém, sabia de sua má intenção e disse: “Hipócritas! Por que vocês tentam me apanhar numa armadilha?
19 Schewe ye to me the prynte of the money. And thei brouyten to hym a peny.
19 Mostrem-me a moeda usada para pagar o imposto”. Quando lhe deram uma moeda de prata,
20 And Jhesus seide to hem, Whos is this ymage, and the writyng aboue?
20 ele disse: “De quem são a imagem e o título nela gravados?”.
21 Thei seien to hym, The emperouris. Thanne he seide to hem, Therfor yelde ye to the emperoure tho thingis that ben the emperouris, and to God tho thingis that ben of God.
21 “De César”, responderam. “Então deem a César o que pertence a César, e deem a Deus o que pertence a Deus”, disse ele.
22 And thei herden, and wondriden; and thei leften hym, and wenten awey.
22 Sua resposta os deixou admirados, e eles foram embora.
23 In that dai Saduceis, that seien there is no risyng ayen to lijf, camen to hym, and axiden him,
23 No mesmo dia, vieram a Jesus alguns saduceus, líderes religiosos que afirmam não haver ressurreição dos mortos,
24 and seiden, Mayster, Moises seide, if ony man is deed, not hauynge a sone, that his brother wedde his wijf, and reise seed to his brothir.
24 e perguntaram: “Mestre, Moisés disse: ‘Se um homem morrer sem deixar filhos, o irmão dele deve se casar com a viúva e ter um filho, que dará continuidade ao nome do irmão’.
25 And seuen britheren weren at vs; and the firste weddide a wijf, and is deed. And he hadde no seed, and lefte his wijf to his brother;
25 Numa família havia sete irmãos. O mais velho se casou e morreu sem deixar filhos, de modo que seu irmão se casou com a viúva.
26 also the secounde, and the thridde, til to the seuenthe.
26 O segundo irmão também morreu, e o terceiro irmão se casou com ela. E assim por diante, até o sétimo irmão.
27 But the laste of alle, the woman is deed.
27 Por fim, a mulher também morreu.
28 Also in the risyng ayen to lijf, whos wijf of the seuene schal sche be? for alle hadden hir.
28 Diga-nos, de quem ela será esposa na ressurreição? Afinal, os sete se casaram com ela”.
29 Jhesus answeride, and seide to hem, Ye erren, `and ye knowen not scripturis, ne the vertu of God.
29 Jesus respondeu: “O erro de vocês está em não conhecerem as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus,
30 For in the rysyng ayen to lijf, nether thei schulen wedde, nethir schulen be weddid; but thei ben as the aungels of God in heuene.
30 pois, quando os mortos ressuscitarem, não se casarão nem se darão em casamento. Nesse sentido, serão como os anjos do céu.
31 And of the risyng ayen of deed men, `han ye not red, that is seid of the Lord, that seith to you,
31 “Agora, quanto a haver ressurreição dos mortos, vocês não leram a esse respeito nas Escrituras? Deus disse:
32 Y am God of Abraham, and God of Ysaac, and God of Jacob? he is not God of deede men, but of lyuynge men.
32 ‘Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó’. Portanto, ele é o Deus dos vivos, e não dos mortos”.
33 And the puple herynge, wondriden in his techynge.
33 Quando as multidões o ouviram, ficaram admiradas com seu ensino.
34 And Fariseis herden that he hadde put silence to Saduceis, and camen togidere.
34 Sabendo os fariseus que Jesus tinha calado os saduceus com essa resposta, reuniram-se novamente para interrogá-lo.
35 And oon of hem, a techere of the lawe, axide Jhesu, and temptide him,
35 Um deles, especialista na lei, tentou apanhá-lo numa armadilha com a seguinte pergunta:
36 Maistir, which is a greet maundement in the lawe?
36 “Mestre, qual é o mandamento mais importante da lei de Moisés?”.
37 Jhesus seide to him, Thou schalt loue thi Lord God, of al thin herte, and in al thi soule, and in al thi mynde.
37 Jesus respondeu: “‘Ame o Senhor, seu Deus, de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma e de toda a sua mente’.
38 This is the firste and the moste maundement.
38 Este é o primeiro e o maior mandamento.
39 And the secounde is lijk to this; Thou schalt loue thi neiyebore as thi silf.
39 O segundo é igualmente importante: ‘Ame o seu próximo como a si mesmo’.
40 In these twey maundementis hangith al the lawe and the profetis.
40 Toda a lei e todas as exigências dos profetas se baseiam nesses dois mandamentos”.
41 And whanne the Farisees weren gederid togidere, Jhesus axide hem,
41 Então, rodeado pelos fariseus, Jesus lhes fez a seguinte pergunta:
42 and seide, What semeth to you of Crist, whos sone is he? Thei seien to hym, Of Dauid.
42 “O que vocês pensam do Cristo? De quem ele é filho?”. Eles responderam: “É filho de Davi”.
43 He seith to hem, Hou thanne Dauid in spirit clepith hym Lord,
43 Jesus perguntou: “Então por que Davi, falando por meio do Espírito, chama o Cristo de ‘meu Senhor’? Pois Davi disse:
44 and seith, The Lord seide to my Lord, Sitte on my riythalf, til Y putte thin enemyes a stool of thi feet?
44 ‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Sente-se no lugar de honra à minha direita até que eu humilhe seus inimigos debaixo de seus pés’.
45 Thanne if Dauid clepith hym Lord, hou is he his sone?
45 Portanto, se Davi chamou o Cristo de ‘meu Senhor’, como ele pode ser filho de Davi?”.
46 And no man miyte answere a word to hym, nethir ony man was hardi fro that day, to axe hym more.
46 Ninguém conseguiu responder e, depois disso, não se atreveram a lhe fazer mais perguntas.
