1 But Y seie, as long tyme as the eir is a litil child, he dyuersith no thing fro a seruaunt, whanne he is lord of alle thingis;
1 Digo, porém, o seguinte: durante o tempo em que o herdeiro é menor de idade, em nada difere de um escravo, mesmo sendo senhor de tudo.
2 but he is vndur keperis and tutoris, in to the tyme determyned of the fadir.
2 Mas está sob tutores e curadores até o tempo predeterminado pelo pai.
3 So we, whanne we weren litle children, we serueden vndur the elementis of the world.
3 Assim, também nós, quando éramos menores, estávamos escravizados aos rudimentos do mundo.
4 But aftir that the fulfilling of tyme cam, God sente his sone,
4 Mas, quando chegou a plenitude do tempo, Deus enviou o seu Filho, nascido de mulher, nascido sob a lei,
5 maad of a womman, maad vndur the lawe, that he schulde ayenbie hem that weren vndur the lawe, that we schulden vnderfonge the adopcioun of sones.
5 para resgatar os que estavam sob a lei, a fim de que recebêssemos a adoção de filhos.
6 And for ye ben Goddis sones, God sente his spirit in to youre hertis, criynge, Abba, fadir.
6 E, porque vocês são filhos, Deus enviou o Espírito de seu Filho ao nosso coração, e esse Espírito clama: “Aba, Pai!”
7 And so ther is not now a seruaunt, but a sone; and if he is a sone, he is an eir bi God.
7 Assim, você já não é mais escravo, porém filho; e, sendo filho, também é herdeiro por Deus.
8 But thanne ye vnknowynge God, serueden to hem that in kynde weren not goddis.
8 Mas, no passado, quando não conheciam a Deus, vocês eram escravos de deuses que, por natureza, não são deuses.
9 But now whanne ye han knowe God, and ben knowun of God, hou ben ye turned eftsoone to the febil and nedi elementis, to the whiche ye wolen eft serue?
9 Mas agora que vocês conhecem a Deus, ou melhor, agora que vocês são conhecidos por Deus, como é que estão voltando outra vez aos rudimentos fracos e pobres, aos quais de novo querem servir como escravos?
10 Ye taken kepe to daies, and monethis, and tymes, and yeris.
10 Vocês guardam dias, meses, tempos e anos.
11 But Y drede you, lest without cause Y haue trauelid among you.
11 Receio que o meu trabalho por vocês tenha sido em vão.
12 Be ye as Y, for Y am as ye. Britheren, Y biseche you, ye han hurt me no thing.
12 Sejam como eu sou, porque também eu sou como vocês. Isto é o que lhes peço, irmãos. Vocês não me ofenderam em nada.
13 But ye knowen, that bi infirmyte of fleisch Y haue prechid to you now bifore;
13 E vocês sabem que eu lhes preguei o evangelho a primeira vez por causa de uma enfermidade física.
14 and ye dispiseden not, nether forsoken youre temptacioun in my fleisch, but ye resseyueden me as an aungel of God, as `Crist Jhesu.
14 E, por mais que a minha enfermidade na carne lhes tenha sido uma provação, vocês não me trataram com desprezo nem desgosto. Pelo contrário, me receberam como anjo de Deus, como o próprio Cristo Jesus.
15 Where thanne is youre blessyng? For Y bere you witnesse, that if it myyte haue be don. ye wolden haue put out youre iyen, and haue yyuen hem to me.
15 O que aconteceu com a felicidade que vocês tinham? Porque posso dar testemunho de que, se fosse possível, vocês teriam arrancado os próprios olhos para me dar!
16 Am Y thanne maad an enemye to you, seiynge to you the sothe?
16 Será que, por dizer a verdade, me tornei inimigo de vocês?
17 Thei louen not you wel, but thei wolen exclude you, that ye suen hem.
17 Esses que se mostram tão zelosos em relação a vocês não estão sendo sinceros. O que eles querem é afastar vocês de mim, para que vocês se interessem por eles.
18 But sue ye the good euermore in good, and not oneli whanne Y am present with you.
18 É bom ser sempre zeloso pelo bem e não apenas quando estou com vocês,
19 My smale children, whiche Y bere eftsoones, til that Crist be fourmed in you,
19 meus filhos, por quem, de novo, estou sofrendo as dores de parto, até que Cristo seja formado em vocês.
20 and Y wolde now be at you, and chaunge my vois, for Y am confoundid among you.
20 Bem que eu gostaria de estar agora aí com vocês e falar em outro tom de voz, porque estou perplexo com vocês.
21 Seie to me, ye that wolen be vndir the lawe, `han ye not red the lawe?
21 Digam-me vocês, os que querem estar sob a lei: será que vocês não ouvem o que a lei diz?
22 For it is writun, that Abraham hadde two sones, oon of a seruaunt, and oon of a fre womman.
22 Pois está escrito que Abraão teve dois filhos: um da mulher escrava e outro da mulher livre.
23 But he that was of the seruaunt, was borun after the flesh; but he that was of the fre womman, by a biheeste.
23 O filho da escrava nasceu segundo a carne; o filho da mulher livre nasceu mediante a promessa.
24 The whiche thingis ben seid bi an othir vndirstonding. For these ben two testamentis; oon in the hille of Synai, gendringe in to seruage, which is Agar.
24 Estas coisas são alegóricas, porque essas mulheres são duas alianças. Uma se refere ao monte Sinai, que gera para a escravidão; esta é Agar.
25 For Syna is an hille that is in Arabie, which hille is ioyned to it that is now Jerusalem, and seruith with hir children.
25 Ora, Agar é o monte Sinai, na Arábia, e corresponde à Jerusalém atual, que está em escravidão com os seus filhos.
26 But that Jerusalem that is aboue, is fre, whiche is oure modir.
26 Mas a Jerusalém lá de cima é livre e ela é a nossa mãe.
27 For it is writun, Be glad, thou bareyn, that berist not; breke out and crye, that bringist forth no children; for many sones ben of hir that is left of hir hosebonde, more than of hir that hath an hosebonde.
27 Porque está escrito: “Alegre-se, ó estéril, você que não dá à luz; exulte e grite, você que não sente dores de parto; porque os filhos da mulher abandonada são mais numerosos do que os filhos da que tem marido.”
28 For, britheren, we ben sones of biheeste aftir Isaac;
28 Mas vocês, irmãos, são filhos da promessa, como Isaque.
29 but now as this that was borun after the fleisch pursuede him that was aftir the spirit, so now.
29 Como, porém, no passado, aquele que nasceu segundo a carne perseguia o que nasceu segundo o Espírito, assim também acontece agora.
30 But what seith the scripture? Caste out the seruaunt and hir sone, for the sone of the seruaunt schal not be eir with the sone of the fre wijf.
30 Mas o que diz a Escritura? Ela diz: “Mande embora a escrava e seu filho, porque de modo nenhum o filho da escrava será herdeiro com o filho da mulher livre.”
31 And so, britheren, we ben not sones of the seruaunt, but of the fre wijf, bi which fredom Crist hath maad vs fre.
31 Portanto, irmãos, somos filhos não da escrava, mas da livre.
