1 Therfor be ye foloweris of God, as moost dereworthe sones;
1 Portanto, como filhos amados de Deus, imitem-no em tudo que fizerem.
2 and walke ye in loue, as Crist louyde vs, and yaf hym silf for vs an offryng and a sacrifice to God, in to the odour of swetnesse.
2 Vivam em amor, seguindo o exemplo de Cristo, que nos amou e se entregou por nós como oferta e sacrifício de aroma agradável a Deus.
3 And fornycacioun, and al vnclennesse, or aueryce, be not named among you, as it bicometh holi men;
3 Que não haja entre vocês imoralidade sexual, impureza ou ganância. Esses pecados não têm lugar no meio do povo santo.
4 ethir filthe, or foli speche, or harlatrye, that perteyneth not to profit, but more doyng of thankyngis.
4 As histórias obscenas, as conversas tolas e as piadas vulgares não são para vocês. Em vez disso, sejam agradecidos a Deus.
5 For wite ye this, and vndurstonde, that ech letchour, or vnclene man, or coueytouse, that serueth to mawmetis, hath not eritage in the kingdom of Crist and of God.
5 Podem estar certos de que nenhum imoral, impuro ou ganancioso, que é idólatra, herdará o reino de Cristo e de Deus.
6 No man disseyue you bi veyn wordis; for whi for these thingis the wraththe of God cam on the sones of vnbileue.
6 Não se deixem enganar por palavras vazias, pois a ira de Deus virá sobre os que lhe desobedecerem.
7 Therfor nyle ye be maad parteneris of hem.
7 Não participem do que essas pessoas fazem.
8 For ye weren sum tyme derknessis, but now `ye ben liyt in the Lord. Walke ye as the sones of liyt.
8 Pois antigamente vocês estavam mergulhados na escuridão, mas agora têm a luz no Senhor. Vivam, portanto, como filhos da luz!
9 For the fruyt of liyt is in al goodnesse, and riytwisnesse, and treuthe.
9 Pois o fruto da luz produz apenas o que é bom, justo e verdadeiro.
10 And preue ye what `thing is wel plesynge to God.
10 Procurem descobrir o que agrada ao Senhor.
11 And nyle ye comyne to vnfruytouse werkis of derknessis; but more repreue ye.
11 Não participem dos feitos inúteis do mal e da escuridão; antes, mostrem sua reprovação expondo-os à luz.
12 For what thingis ben don of hem in priuy, it is foule, yhe, to speke.
12 É vergonhoso até mesmo falar daquilo que os maus fazem em segredo.
13 And alle thingis that ben repreuyd of the liyt, ben opynli schewid; for al thing that is schewid, is liyt.
13 Suas más intenções, porém, ficarão evidentes quando a luz brilhar sobre elas,
14 For which thing he seith, Rise thou that slepist, and rise vp fro deth, and Crist schal liytne thee.
14 pois a luz torna visíveis todas as coisas. Por isso se diz: “Desperte, você que dorme, levante-se dentre os mortos, e Cristo o iluminará”.
15 Therfor, britheren, se ye, hou warli ye schulen go;
15 Portanto, sejam cuidadosos em seu modo de vida. Não vivam como insensatos, mas como sábios.
16 not as vnwise men, but as wise men, ayenbiynge tyme, for the daies ben yuele.
16 Aproveitem ao máximo todas as oportunidades nestes dias maus.
17 Therfor nyle ye be maad vnwise, but vndurstondynge which is the wille of God.
17 Não ajam de forma impensada, mas procurem entender a vontade do Senhor.
18 And nyle ye be drunkun of wyn, in which is letcherie, but be ye fillid with the Hooli Goost; and speke ye to you silf in salmes,
18 Não se embriaguem com vinho, pois ele os levará ao descontrole. Em vez disso, sejam cheios do Espírito,
19 and ymnes, and spiritual songis, syngynge and seiynge salm in youre hertis to the Lord;
19 cantando salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais entre si e louvando o Senhor de coração com música.
20 euermore doynge thankingis for alle thingis in the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist to God and to the fadir.
20 Por tudo deem graças a Deus, o Pai, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
21 Be ye suget togidere in the drede of Crist.
21 Sujeitem-se uns aos outros por temor a Cristo.
22 Wymmen, be thei suget to her hosebondis,
22 Esposas, sujeite-se cada uma a seu marido, como ao Senhor.
23 as to the Lord, for the man is heed of the wymman, as Crist is heed of the chirche; he is sauyour of his bodi.
23 Pois o marido é o cabeça da esposa, como Cristo é o cabeça da igreja. Ele é o Salvador de seu corpo, a igreja.
24 But as the chirche is suget to Crist, so wymmen to her hosebondis in alle thingis.
24 Assim como a igreja se sujeita a Cristo, também vocês, esposas, devem se sujeitar em tudo a seu marido.
25 Men, loue ye youre wyues, as Crist louyde the chirche, and yaf hym silf for it, to make it holi;
25 Maridos, ame cada um a sua esposa, como Cristo amou a igreja. Ele entregou a vida por ela,
26 and clenside it with the waisching of watir, in the word of lijf,
26 a fim de torná-la santa, purificando-a ao lavá-la com água por meio da palavra.
27 to yyue the chirche gloriouse to hym silf, that it hadde no wem, ne ryueling, or ony siche thing, but that it be hooli and vndefoulid.
27 Assim o fez para apresentá-la a si mesmo como igreja gloriosa, sem mancha, ruga ou qualquer outro defeito, mas santa e sem culpa.
28 So and men `schulen loue her wyues, as her owne bodies. He that loueth his wijf, loueth hym silf;
28 Da mesma forma, os maridos devem amar cada um a sua esposa, como amam o próprio corpo, pois o homem que ama sua esposa na verdade ama a si mesmo.
29 for no man hatide euere his owne fleisch, but nurischith and fostrith it, as Crist doith the chirche.
29 Ninguém odeia o próprio corpo, mas o alimenta e cuida dele, como Cristo cuida da igreja.
30 And we ben membris of his bodi, of his fleisch, and of his boonys.
30 E nós somos membros de seu corpo.
31 For this thing a man schal forsake his fadir and modir, and he schal drawe to his wijf; and thei schulen be tweyne in o fleisch.
31 “Por isso o homem deixa pai e mãe e se une à sua mulher, e os dois se tornam um só.”
32 This sacrament is greet; yhe, Y seie in Crist, and in the chirche.
32 Esse é um grande mistério, mas ilustra a união entre Cristo e a igreja.
33 Netheles ye alle, ech man loue his wijf as hym silf; and the wijf drede hir hosebonde.
33 Portanto, volto a dizer: cada homem deve amar a esposa como ama a si mesmo, e a esposa deve respeitar o marido.
