1 Speke thou not ony thing folily, nether thin herte be swift to brynge forth a word bifore God; for God is in heuene, and thou art on erthe, therfor thi wordis be fewe.
1 Quando você for ao santuário de Deus, seja reverente. Quem se aproxima para ouvir é melhor do que os tolos que oferecem sacrifício sem saber que estão agindo mal.
2 Dremes suen many bisynessis, and foli schal be foundun in many wordis.
2 Não seja precipitado de lábios, nem apressado de coração para fazer promessas diante de Deus. Deus está nos céus, e você está na terra, por isso, fale pouco.
3 If thou hast avowid ony thing to God, tarie thou not to yelde; for an vnfeithful and fonned biheest displesith hym; but `yelde thou what euer thing thou hast avowid;
3 Das muitas ocupações brotam sonhos; do muito falar nasce a prosa vã do tolo.
4 and it is myche betere to make not a vowe, than aftir a vowe to yelde not biheestis.
4 Quando você fizer um voto, cumpra-o sem demora, pois os tolos desagradam a Deus; cumpra o seu voto.
5 Yyue thou not thi mouth, that thou make thi fleisch to do synne; nether seie thou bifor an aungel, No puruyaunce is; lest perauenture the Lord be wrooth on thi wordis, and distruye alle the werkis of thin hondis.
5 É melhor não fazer voto do que fazer e não cumprir.
6 Where ben many dremes, ben ful many vanytees, and wordis with out noumbre; but drede thou God.
6 Não permita que a sua boca o faça pecar. E não diga ao mensageiro de Deus: "O meu voto foi um engano". Por que irritar a Deus com o que você diz e deixá-lo destruir o que você realizou?
7 If thou seest false chalengis of nedi men, and violent domes, and that riytfulnesse is distried in the prouynce, wondre thou not on this doyng; for another is hiyere than an hiy man, and also othere men ben more hiye aboue these men;
7 Em meio a tantos sonhos, absurdos e conversas inúteis, tenha temor de Deus.
8 and ferthermore the kyng of al erthe comaundith to the seruaunt.
8 Se você vir o pobre oprimido numa província e vir que lhe são negados o direito e a justiça, não fique surpreso; pois todo oficial está subordinado a alguém em posição superior, e sobre os dois há outros em posição ainda mais alta.
9 An auerouse man schal not be fillid of monei; and he that loueth richessis schal not take fruytis of tho; and therfor this is vanyte.
9 Mesmo assim, é vantagem a nação ter um rei que a governe e que se interesse pela agricultura.
10 Where ben many richessis, also many men ben, that eten tho; and what profitith it to the haldere, no but that he seeth richessis with hise iyen?
10 Quem ama o dinheiro jamais terá o suficiente; quem ama as riquezas jamais ficará satisfeito com os seus rendimentos. Isso também não faz sentido.
11 Slepe is swete to hym that worchith, whether he etith litil ether myche; but the fulnesse of a ryche man suffrith not hym to slepe.
11 Quando aumentam os bens, também aumentam os que os consomem. E que benefício trazem os bens a quem os possui, senão dar um pouco de alegria aos seus olhos?
12 Also anothir sijknesse is ful yuel, which Y siy vndur the sunne; richessis ben kept in to the yuel of her lord.
12 O sono do trabalhador é ameno, quer coma pouco quer coma muito, mas a fartura de um homem rico não lhe dá tranqüilidade para dormir.
13 For thei perischen in the worste turment; he gendride a sone, that schal be in souereyn nedynesse.
13 Há um mal terrível que vi debaixo do sol: riquezas acumuladas para infelicidade do seu possuidor.
14 As he yede nakid out of his modris wombe, so he schal turne ayen; and he schal take awei with hym no thing of his trauel.
14 Se as riquezas se perdem num mau negócio, nada ficará para o filho que lhe nascer.
15 Outirli it is a wretchid sijknesse; as he cam, so he schal turne ayen. What therfor profitith it to hym, that he trauelide in to the wynde?
15 O homem sai nu do ventre de sua mãe, e como vem, assim vai. De todo o trabalho em que se esforçou nada levará consigo.
16 In alle the daies of his lijf he eet in derknessis, and in many bisinessis, and in nedynesse, and sorewe.
16 Há também outro mal terrível: Como o homem vem, assim ele vai, e o que obtém, de todo o seu esforço em busca do vento?
17 Therfor this semyde good to me, that a man ete, and drynke, and vse gladnesse of his trauel, in which he trauelide vndir the sunne, in the noumbre of daies of his lijf, which God yaf to hym; and this is his part.
17 Passa toda a sua vida nas trevas, com grande frustração, doença e amargura.
18 And to ech man, to whom God yaf richessis, and catel, and yaf power to hym to ete of tho, and to vse his part, and to be glad of his trauel; this is the yifte of God.
18 Assim, descobri que o melhor e o que vale a pena é comer, beber, e desfrutar o resultado de todo o esforço que se faz debaixo do sol durante os poucos dias de vida que Deus dá ao homem, pois essa é a sua recompensa.
19 For he schal not bithenke miche on the daies of his lijf, for God ocupieth his herte with delicis.
19 E, quando Deus concede riquezas e bens a alguém, e o capacita a desfrutá-los, a aceitar a sua sorte e a ser feliz em seu trabalho, isso é um presente de Deus.

20 Raramente essa pessoa reflete no fato de que a sua vida é curta, porque Deus o mantém ocupado com a alegria do coração.
