1 Speke thou not ony thing folily, nether thin herte be swift to brynge forth a word bifore God; for God is in heuene, and thou art on erthe, therfor thi wordis be fewe.
1 Guarda o teu pé, quando entrares na casa de Deus; e esteja mais pronto a ouvir do que a oferecer o sacrifício de tolos, porque eles não sabem que fazem mal.
2 Dremes suen many bisynessis, and foli schal be foundun in many wordis.
2 Não te precipites com a tua boca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar qualquer coisa diante de Deus; porque Deus está no céu, e tu estás sobre a terra; portanto, que sejam poucas as tuas palavras.
3 If thou hast avowid ony thing to God, tarie thou not to yelde; for an vnfeithful and fonned biheest displesith hym; but `yelde thou what euer thing thou hast avowid;
3 Porque o sonho vem através da multidão de negócios, e a voz do tolo é conhecida pela multidão de palavras.
4 and it is myche betere to make not a vowe, than aftir a vowe to yelde not biheestis.
4 Quando fizeres algum voto a Deus, não tardes em pagá-lo; porque ele não se agrada de tolos; o que votares, paga-o.
5 Yyue thou not thi mouth, that thou make thi fleisch to do synne; nether seie thou bifor an aungel, No puruyaunce is; lest perauenture the Lord be wrooth on thi wordis, and distruye alle the werkis of thin hondis.
5 Melhor é que tu não prometas, do que prometeres e não pagar.
6 Where ben many dremes, ben ful many vanytees, and wordis with out noumbre; but drede thou God.
6 Não sofra a tua boca fazendo pecar a tua carne, nem digas diante do anjo que foi erro; por que se iraria Deus contra a tua voz, e destruiria a obra das tuas mãos?
7 If thou seest false chalengis of nedi men, and violent domes, and that riytfulnesse is distried in the prouynce, wondre thou not on this doyng; for another is hiyere than an hiy man, and also othere men ben more hiye aboue these men;
7 Porque na multidão dos sonhos e nas muitas palavras, há também diversas vaidades; porém, teme tu a teu Deus.
8 and ferthermore the kyng of al erthe comaundith to the seruaunt.
8 Se vires em alguma província a opressão do pobre, e a violenta perversão do julgamento e da justiça, não te admires de tal acontecimento; pois aquele que é mais alto do que aquele que é considerado o mais alto; há ainda outros mais altos do que eles.
9 An auerouse man schal not be fillid of monei; and he that loueth richessis schal not take fruytis of tho; and therfor this is vanyte.
9 Ademais, o lucro da terra é para todos; até o próprio rei se serve do campo.
10 Where ben many richessis, also many men ben, that eten tho; and what profitith it to the haldere, no but that he seeth richessis with hise iyen?
10 Aquele que ama a prata não se satisfará com a prata; e nem aquele que ama a abundância com o aumento; isto também é vaidade.
11 Slepe is swete to hym that worchith, whether he etith litil ether myche; but the fulnesse of a ryche man suffrith not hym to slepe.
11 Quando aumenta os bens, multiplicam-se os que os comem; que proveito têm os seus donos além de contemplá-los com os seus olhos?
12 Also anothir sijknesse is ful yuel, which Y siy vndur the sunne; richessis ben kept in to the yuel of her lord.
12 O sono de um trabalhador é doce, quer coma pouco quer muito; mas a fartura do rico não o permite dormir.
13 For thei perischen in the worste turment; he gendride a sone, that schal be in souereyn nedynesse.
13 Há um mal doloroso que vi debaixo do sol, a saber, as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o seu próprio dano.
14 As he yede nakid out of his modris wombe, so he schal turne ayen; and he schal take awei with hym no thing of his trauel.
14 Mas estas riquezas perecem pelo mau trabalho, e havendo um filho, nada lhe fica na sua mão.
15 Outirli it is a wretchid sijknesse; as he cam, so he schal turne ayen. What therfor profitith it to hym, that he trauelide in to the wynde?
15 Assim como ele nasceu do ventre de sua mãe, nu tornará, assim como veio; e nada tomará do seu trabalho, que ele possa levar na sua mão.
16 In alle the daies of his lijf he eet in derknessis, and in many bisinessis, and in nedynesse, and sorewe.
16 E isto também é um grave mal, que em todos os pontos, justamente como veio, assim ele há de ir; e que proveito ele tem em trabalhar para o vento?
17 Therfor this semyde good to me, that a man ete, and drynke, and vse gladnesse of his trauel, in which he trauelide vndir the sunne, in the noumbre of daies of his lijf, which God yaf to hym; and this is his part.
17 E, em todos os seus dias também come em trevas, e tem muita angústia e ira por causa de sua enfermidade.
18 And to ech man, to whom God yaf richessis, and catel, and yaf power to hym to ete of tho, and to vse his part, and to be glad of his trauel; this is the yifte of God.
18 Eis aqui o que eu vi: uma coisa boa e bela é comer e beber, e desfrutar cada um do bem de todo o trabalho que realizou debaixo do sol, todos os dias de vida que Deus lhe deu, porque esta é a sua porção.
19 For he schal not bithenke miche on the daies of his lijf, for God ocupieth his herte with delicis.
19 E a todo o homem, também a quem Deus deu riquezas e bens, e lhe deu poder para delas comer e tomar a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho; isto é dádiva de Deus.
20 — ausente —
20 Porque ele não há de lembrar muito dos dias da sua vida; porquanto Deus lhe responde na alegria de seu coração.
