1 Speke thou not ony thing folily, nether thin herte be swift to brynge forth a word bifore God; for God is in heuene, and thou art on erthe, therfor thi wordis be fewe.
1 Tenha cuidado quando for ao Templo. Não ofereça o seu sacrifício como fazem os tolos, que nem sabem que não estão fazendo isso da maneira certa. Vá pronto para ouvir e obedecer a Deus.
2 Dremes suen many bisynessis, and foli schal be foundun in many wordis.
2 Pense bem antes de falar e não faça a Deus nenhuma promessa apressada. Deus está no céu, e você, aqui na terra; portanto, fale pouco.
3 If thou hast avowid ony thing to God, tarie thou not to yelde; for an vnfeithful and fonned biheest displesith hym; but `yelde thou what euer thing thou hast avowid;
3 Quanto mais você se preocupar, mais pesadelos terá; e, quanto mais você falar, mais tolices dirá.
4 and it is myche betere to make not a vowe, than aftir a vowe to yelde not biheestis.
4 Assim, quando você fizer uma promessa a Deus, cumpra logo essa promessa. Ele não gosta de tolos; portanto, faça o que prometeu.
5 Yyue thou not thi mouth, that thou make thi fleisch to do synne; nether seie thou bifor an aungel, No puruyaunce is; lest perauenture the Lord be wrooth on thi wordis, and distruye alle the werkis of thin hondis.
5 É melhor não prometer nada do que fazer uma promessa e não cumprir.
6 Where ben many dremes, ben ful many vanytees, and wordis with out noumbre; but drede thou God.
6 Não deixe que as suas próprias palavras o façam pecar. Assim, você não terá de dizer ao sacerdote que o que você queria dizer não era bem aquilo. Para que fazer Deus ficar irado com você? Por que deixar que ele destrua as coisas que você conseguiu com o seu trabalho?
7 If thou seest false chalengis of nedi men, and violent domes, and that riytfulnesse is distried in the prouynce, wondre thou not on this doyng; for another is hiyere than an hiy man, and also othere men ben more hiye aboue these men;
7 Mesmo nos seus muitos sonhos, em todas as suas ilusões e em tudo o que disser, você deve temer a Deus .
8 and ferthermore the kyng of al erthe comaundith to the seruaunt.
8 Não fique admirado quando você notar em algum lugar o governo fazendo injustiça, perseguindo os pobres e negando os direitos deles. Pois cada autoridade é protegida pela que está acima dela, e as duas são acobertadas pelas autoridades superiores.
9 An auerouse man schal not be fillid of monei; and he that loueth richessis schal not take fruytis of tho; and therfor this is vanyte.
9 Elas dizem: “Toda gente tira proveito da terra, mas o rei depende daquilo que recebe das colheitas.”
10 Where ben many richessis, also many men ben, that eten tho; and what profitith it to the haldere, no but that he seeth richessis with hise iyen?
10 Quem ama o dinheiro nunca ficará satisfeito; quem tem a ambição de ficar rico nunca terá tudo o que quer. Isso também é ilusão.
11 Slepe is swete to hym that worchith, whether he etith litil ether myche; but the fulnesse of a ryche man suffrith not hym to slepe.
11 Quanto mais rica é a pessoa, mais bocas tem para alimentar. E o que ela ganha com isso é apenas saber que é rica.
12 Also anothir sijknesse is ful yuel, which Y siy vndur the sunne; richessis ben kept in to the yuel of her lord.
12 O trabalhador pode ter pouco ou muito para comer, mas pelo menos dorme bem à noite. Porém o rico se preocupa tanto com as coisas que possui, que nem consegue dormir.
13 For thei perischen in the worste turment; he gendride a sone, that schal be in souereyn nedynesse.
13 Eu tenho visto neste mundo esta coisa triste: algumas pessoas economizam dinheiro e sofrem com isso.
14 As he yede nakid out of his modris wombe, so he schal turne ayen; and he schal take awei with hym no thing of his trauel.
14 Perdem tudo num mau negócio e assim não deixam nada para os filhos.
15 Outirli it is a wretchid sijknesse; as he cam, so he schal turne ayen. What therfor profitith it to hym, that he trauelide in to the wynde?
15 Como entramos neste mundo, assim também saímos, isto é, sem nada. Apesar de todo o nosso trabalho, não podemos levar nada desta vida.
16 In alle the daies of his lijf he eet in derknessis, and in many bisinessis, and in nedynesse, and sorewe.
16 Isso também é muito triste! Nós vamos embora deste mundo do mesmo jeito que viemos. Trabalhamos tanto, tentando pegar o vento, e o que é que ganhamos com isso?
17 Therfor this semyde good to me, that a man ete, and drynke, and vse gladnesse of his trauel, in which he trauelide vndir the sunne, in the noumbre of daies of his lijf, which God yaf to hym; and this is his part.
17 O que ganhamos é passar a vida na escuridão e na tristeza, preocupados, doentes e amargurados.
18 And to ech man, to whom God yaf richessis, and catel, and yaf power to hym to ete of tho, and to vse his part, and to be glad of his trauel; this is the yifte of God.
18 Então cheguei a esta conclusão: a melhor coisa que uma pessoa pode fazer durante a curta vida que Deus lhe deu é comer e beber e aproveitar bem o que ganhou com o seu trabalho. Essa é a parte que cabe a cada um.
19 For he schal not bithenke miche on the daies of his lijf, for God ocupieth his herte with delicis.
19 Se Deus der a você riquezas e propriedades e deixar que as aproveite, fique contente com o que recebeu e com o seu trabalho. Isso é um presente de Deus.

20 E você não sentirá o tempo passar, pois Deus encherá o seu coração de alegria.
