1 These ben the wordis whiche Moyses spak to al Israel ouer Jordan, in the wildirnesse of the feeld, ayens the reed see, bitwix Pharan and Tophel and Laban and Asseroth, where is ful myche gold,
1 São estas as palavras que Moisés falou a todo o Israel, a leste do Jordão, no deserto, na Arabá, diante de Sufe, entre Parã, Tofel, Labã, Hazerote e Di-Zaabe.
2 by enleuene daies fro Oreb bi the weie of the hil of Seir, til to Cades Barne.
2 É uma jornada de onze dias desde Horebe até Cades-Barneia, pelo caminho dos montes de Seir.
3 In the fortithe yeer, in the enleuenth monethe, in the firste dai of the monethe, Moises spak to the sones of Israel alle thingis whiche the Lord commandide to hym that he schulde seie to hem,
3 Aconteceu que, no quadragésimo ano, no primeiro dia do décimo primeiro mês, Moisés falou aos filhos de Israel, segundo tudo o que o Senhor lhe havia ordenado a respeito deles,
4 after that he smoot Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, that dwellide in Esebon, and Og, the kyng of Basan, that dwelide in Asseroth and in Edray, ouer Jordan, in the lond of Moab.
4 depois que derrotou Seom, rei dos amorreus, que habitava em Hesbom, e Ogue, rei de Basã, que habitava em Astarote, em Edrei.
5 And Moyses bigan to declare the lawe, and to seie,
5 A leste do Jordão, na terra de Moabe, Moisés encarregou-se de explicar esta lei, dizendo:
6 Oure Lord God spak to vs in Oreb, and seide, It suffisith to you that ye han dwellid in this hil;
6 — O Senhor , nosso Deus, nos falou em Horebe, dizendo: “Vocês já ficaram bastante tempo neste monte.
7 turne ye ayen, and come ye to the hil of Amorreis, and to othere placis that ben next it; to places of feeldis, and of hillis, and to lowere places ayens the south, and bisidis the brenke of the see, to the lond of Cananeys, and of Liban, `til to the greet flood Eufrates.
7 Voltem e sigam viagem. Vão à região montanhosa dos amorreus, a todos os seus vizinhos, na Arabá, à região montanhosa, à Sefelá, ao Neguebe, à costa marítima, terra dos cananeus, e ao Líbano, até o grande rio Eufrates.
8 Lo, `he seith, Y haue youe to you; entre ye, and `welde ye `that lond on which the Lord swoor to youre fadrys, Abraham, Ysaac, and Jacob, that he schulde yyue it to hem, and to her seed after hem.
8 Eis aqui a terra que eu pus diante de vocês; entrem e tomem posse da terra que o Senhor , com juramento, deu a seus pais, a Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, a eles e à sua descendência depois deles.”
9 And Y seide to you in that time, Y may not aloone susteyne you, for youre Lord God hath multiplied you,
9 — Nesse mesmo tempo, eu disse a vocês: “Sozinho não poderei levá-los.
10 and ye ben ful many to dai, as the sterris of heuene;
10 O Senhor , o Deus de vocês, fez com que vocês se multiplicassem e eis que hoje vocês são uma multidão como as estrelas dos céus.
11 the Lord God of youre fadris adde to this noumbre many thousyndis, and blesse you, as he spak.
11 O Senhor , Deus dos pais de vocês, faça com que vocês sejam mil vezes mais numerosos do que são agora e os abençoe, como prometeu.
12 Y may not aloone susteyne youre causis, and birthun, and stryues; yyue ye of you men wise `in dyuyn thingis,
12 Mas como poderia eu sozinho suportar o peso e a carga de vocês, e como poderia eu resolver sozinho todas as questões que surgem no meio de vocês?
13 and witti `in mennus thingis worthi to be don, whose conuersacioun is preued in youre lynagis, that Y sette hem princes to you.
13 Escolham homens sábios, inteligentes e experimentados, segundo as suas tribos, para que eu os ponha por chefes de vocês.”
14 Thanne ye answeriden to me, The thing is good which thou wolt do.
14 — Então vocês me responderam que era bom fazer o que eu tinha falado.
15 And Y took of youre lynagis men wise and noble, `in vertues and kyn; and Y ordeynede hem princis, tribunes, and centuryouns, and quynquagenaries, and denys, whiche schulden teche you all thingis.
15 Assim, peguei os chefes de suas tribos, homens sábios e experimentados, e os fiz chefes sobre vocês, chefes de milhares, chefes de cem, chefes de cinquenta, chefes de dez e oficiais, segundo as suas tribos.
16 And Y comaundide to hem, and seide, Here ye hem, and deme ye that that is iust, whether he be a citeseyn, whether a pilgrym.
16 Nesse mesmo tempo, ordenei aos juízes, dizendo: “Deem atenção às questões que surgem entre os seus irmãos e julguem com justiça entre um homem e seu irmão ou o estrangeiro que está com ele.
17 No difference schal be of persones; ye schulen here so a litil man, `that is, pore, as a greet man, nether ye schulen take the persoone of ony man, for it is the doom of God. That if ony thing semeth hard to you, telle ye to me, and Y schal here.
17 Não sejam parciais no julgamento. Ouçam tanto o pequeno como o grande; não tenham medo de ninguém, porque o julgamento é de Deus. Porém, se a questão for demasiadamente difícil para vocês, tragam para mim, e eu a ouvirei.”
18 And Y comaundide alle thingis whiche ye ouyten to do.
18 — Assim, naquele tempo, eu lhes ordenei todas as coisas que vocês deveriam fazer.
19 Forsothe we yeden forth fro Oreb, and passiden bi a feerdful deseert, and grettiste wildirnesse, which ye sien, bi the weye of the hil of Ammorrey, as oure Lord God comaundide to vs. And whanne we hadden come in to Cades Barne,
19 — Então partimos de Horebe e caminhamos por todo aquele grande e terrível deserto que vocês viram, pelo caminho da região montanhosa dos amorreus, como o Senhor , nosso Deus, nos havia ordenado; e chegamos a Cades-Barneia.
20 Y seide to you, Ye ben comen to the hil of Ammorrey, which youre Lord God schal yyue to you;
20 Então eu lhes disse: “Vocês chegaram à região montanhosa dos amorreus, que o Senhor , nosso Deus, nos dá.
21 se thou the lond which thi Lord God schal yyue to thee; `stie thou, and welde it, as oure Lord God spak to thi fadris; `nyle thou drede, nether `drede thou in herte ony thing.
21 Eis que o Senhor , seu Deus, colocou esta terra diante de vocês. Vão e tomem posse dessa terra, como o Senhor , o Deus de seus pais, falou. Não tenham medo e não se assustem.”
22 And alle ye neiyiden to me, and ye seiden, Sende we men, that schulen biholde the lond, and telle to vs bi what weye we owen stie, and to whiche citees we owen to go.
22 — Então todos vocês se aproximaram de mim e disseram: “Vamos mandar alguns homens adiante de nós, para que espiem a terra e nos digam por que caminho devemos seguir e a que cidades devemos ir.”
23 And whanne the word pleside to me, Y sente of you twelue men, of ech lynage oon.
23 Isto me pareceu uma boa ideia, de maneira que escolhi, do meio de vocês, doze homens, um de cada tribo.
24 And whanne thei hadden go, and hadden stied in to the hilli places, thei camen `til to the valei of Clustre; and whanne thei hadden biholde the lond,
24 Eles saíram e foram à região montanhosa, e, espiando a terra, foram até o vale de Escol.
25 thei token of the fruytis therof, to schewe the plentee, and brouyten `to vs, and seiden, The lond is good which oure Lord God schal yyue to vs.
25 Tomaram do fruto da terra nas mãos e o trouxeram até nós. E nos informaram, dizendo: “É boa esta terra que o Senhor , nosso Deus, nos dá.”
26 And ye `nolden stie, but ye weren vnbileueful to the word of oure Lord God.
26 — Porém vocês não quiseram ir, mas foram rebeldes à ordem do Senhor , seu Deus.
27 And ye grutchiden in youre tabernaclis, and ye seiden, The Lord hatith vs, and herfor he ledde vs out of the lond of Egipt, that he schulde bitake vs in the hond of Ammorey, and schulde do awei vs.
27 Ficaram murmurando em suas tendas e disseram: “O Senhor está com ódio de nós e por isso nos tirou da terra do Egito para nos entregar nas mãos dos amorreus e nos destruir.
28 Whidur schulen we stie? the messangeris maden aferd oure herte, and seiden, A grettiste multitude is, and largere in stature than we; the citees ben greete, and wallid `til to the heuene; we sien there the sones of Enachym, that is, giauntis.
28 Para onde iremos? Nossos irmãos nos deixaram com medo, dizendo: ‘Aquele povo é maior e mais alto do que nós. As cidades são grandes e fortificadas até o céu. Também vimos ali os filhos dos anaquins.’”
29 And Y seide to you, `Nyle ye drede `with ynne, nether `drede withoutforth; the Lord God hym silf,
29 — Então eu lhes disse: “Não fiquem apavorados, nem tenham medo deles.
30 which is youre ledere, schal fiyte for you, as he dide in Egipt, while alle men sien.
30 O Senhor , o seu Deus, que vai adiante de vocês, ele lutará por vocês, segundo tudo o que viram que ele fez conosco no Egito,
31 And ye sien in the wildirnesse, thi Lord God bar thee, as a man is wont to bere his litil sone, in al the weie bi which ye yeden til ye camen to this place.
31 e também no deserto, onde vocês viram que o Senhor , seu Deus, os levou, como um homem leva o seu filho, por todo o caminho pelo qual vocês andaram, até chegar a este lugar.”
32 And sotheli nether so ye bileueden to youre Lord God, that yede bifor you in the weie,
32 — Mas nem assim vocês creram no Senhor , seu Deus,
33 and mesuride the place in which ye ouyten to sette tentis, and schewide in nyyt the weie to you bi fier, and in dai bi a piler of cloude.
33 que foi adiante de vocês por todo o caminho, para procurar o lugar onde deveriam acampar; de noite, estava no fogo, para mostrar o caminho por onde vocês deveriam andar, e, de dia, estava na nuvem.
34 And whanne the Lord hadde herd the vois of youre wordis, he was wrooth,
34 — O Senhor ouviu o que vocês disseram, ficou irado e jurou, dizendo:
35 and swoor, and seide, Noon of the men of this werste generacioun schal se the good lond, which Y bihiyte vndur an ooth to youre fadris,
35 “Nenhum dos homens desta geração perversa verá a boa terra que jurei dar aos pais de vocês,
36 outakun Caleph, the sone of Jephone; for he schal se it, and Y schal yyue to hym the lond on which he trad, and to hise sones, for he suede the Lord.
36 com a exceção de Calebe, filho de Jefoné. Ele verá essa terra e darei a ele e aos filhos dele a terra em que ele pisou, porque perseverou em seguir o Senhor .”
37 Nether the indignacioun ayens the puple is wondirful, sithen the Lord was wrooth also to me for you, and seide,
37 Também contra mim se indignou o Senhor por causa de vocês, dizendo: “Também você não entrará nessa terra.
38 Nether thou schalt entre thidur, but Josue, the sone of Nun, thi mynystre, he schal entre for thee; excyte and strengthe thou him, and he schal departe the lond bi lot to Israel.
38 Josué, filho de Num, que está diante de você, ele é quem vai entrar; anime-o, porque ele fará com que Israel a receba por herança.
39 Youre litle children, of whiche ye seiden, that thei schulden be led prisoneris, and the sones that kunnen not to dai the diuersite of good and of yuel, thei schulen entre; and Y schal yyue to hem the lond, and thei schulen welde it.
39 E as crianças de vocês, de quem vocês disseram que seriam presa do inimigo, sim, os filhos de vocês, que hoje nem sabem distinguir entre bem e mal, esses ali entrarão, e a eles darei a terra, e eles a possuirão.
40 Sotheli turne ye ayen, and go ye in to the wildirnesse, bi the weie of the Reed See.
40 Mas vocês voltem e sigam para o deserto, pelo caminho do mar Vermelho.”
41 And ye answeriden to me, We synneden to the Lord; we schulen stie, and we schulen fiyte, as oure Lord God comaundide. And whanne ye weren arayed with armeris, and yeden `into the hil, the Lord seide to me,
41 — Então vocês responderam: “Pecamos contra o Senhor . Nós iremos e lutaremos, segundo tudo o que o Senhor , nosso Deus, nos ordenou.” Vocês se armaram, cada um com os seus instrumentos de guerra, e pensaram que seria fácil entrar na região montanhosa.
42 Seie thou to hem, `Nyle ye stye, nether fiyte ye, for Y am not with you, lest ye fallen bifor youre enemyes.
42 Mas o Senhor mandou que eu dissesse a vocês: “Não vão, nem comecem a lutar, pois não estou no meio de vocês, e vocês serão derrotados pelos seus inimigos.”
43 Y spak, and ye herden not; but ye `weren aduersaries to the comaundement of the Lord, and bolnden with prijde, and stieden in to the hil.
43 Isso eu lhes falei, mas vocês não quiseram escutar; pelo contrário, foram rebeldes às ordens do Senhor e, presunçosos, foram na direção das montanhas.
44 Therfor Ammorrey yede out, that dwellide in the hillis, and he cam ayens you, and pursuede you, as bees ben wont to pursue, and killide fro Seir til Horma. And whanne ye turneden ayen,
44 Os amorreus que habitavam naquela região montanhosa saíram contra vocês e os perseguiram como fazem as abelhas e os derrotaram desde Seir até Horma.
45 and wepten bifor the Lord, he herde not you, nether wolde asente to youre vois;
45 Vocês voltaram e foram se queixar diante do Senhor , porém o Senhor não lhes deu atenção e não inclinou os ouvidos a vocês.
46 therfor ye saten in Cades Barne bi myche tyme.
46 Assim, vocês permaneceram muitos dias em Cades.
