1 But the spirit seith opynli, that in the laste tymes summen schulen departe fro the feith, yyuynge tent to spiritis of errour, and to techingis of deuelis; that speken leesing in ipocrisie,
1 Ora, o Espírito afirma expressamente que, nos últimos tempos, alguns apostatarão da fé, por obedecerem a espíritos enganadores e a ensinos de demônios,
2 and haue her conscience corrupt,
2 pela hipocrisia dos que falam mentiras e que têm a consciência cauterizada,
3 forbedinge to be weddid, to absteyne fro metis, whiche God made to take with doyng of thankingis, to feithful men, and hem that han knowe the treuthe.
3 que proíbem o casamento e exigem abstinência de alimentos que Deus criou para serem recebidos com gratidão pelos que creem e conhecem a verdade.
4 For ech creature of God is good, and no thing is to be cast awei, which is takun with doyng of thankyngis;
4 Pois tudo o que Deus criou é bom, e, se recebido com gratidão, nada é recusável,
5 for it is halewid bi the word of God, and bi preyer.
5 porque é santificado pela palavra de Deus e pela oração.
6 Thou puttynge forth these thingis to britheren, schalt be a good mynystre of Crist Jhesu; nurschid with wordis of feith and of good doctryne, which thou hast gete.
6 Expondo estas coisas aos irmãos, você será um bom ministro de Cristo Jesus, alimentado com as palavras da fé e da boa doutrina que você tem seguido.
7 But eschewe thou vncouenable fablis, and elde wymmenus fablis; haunte thi silf to pitee.
7 Mas rejeite as fábulas profanas e de velhas caducas. Exercite-se, pessoalmente, na piedade.
8 For bodili exercitation is profitable to litle thing; but pitee is profitable to alle thingis, that hath a biheest of lijf that now is, and that is to come.
8 Pois o exercício físico tem algum valor, mas a piedade tem valor para tudo, porque tem a promessa da vida que agora é e da que há de vir.
9 A trewe word, and worthi al acceptacioun.
9 Fiel é esta palavra e digna de inteira aceitação.
10 And in this thing we trauelen, and ben cursid, for we hopen in lyuyng God, that is sauyour of alle men, moost of feithful men.
10 Pois é para esse fim que trabalhamos e nos esforçamos, porque temos posto a nossa esperança no Deus vivo, Salvador de todos, especialmente dos que creem.
11 Comaunde thou this thing, and teche.
11 Ordene estas coisas e ensine-as.
12 No man dispise thi yongthe, but be thou ensaumple of feithful men in word, in lyuyng, in charite, in feith, in chastite.
12 Ninguém o despreze por você ser jovem; pelo contrário, seja um exemplo para os fiéis, na palavra, na conduta, no amor, na fé, na pureza.
13 Tyl Y come, take tent to redyng, to exortacioun and teching.
13 Até a minha chegada, dedique-se à leitura pública das Escrituras, à exortação, ao ensino.
14 Nyle thou litil charge the grace which is in thee, that is youun to thee bi profecie, with putting on of the hondis of preesthod.
14 Não seja negligente para com o dom que você recebeu, o qual lhe foi dado mediante profecia, com a imposição das mãos do presbitério.
15 Thenke thou these thingis, in these be thou, that thi profiting be schewid to alle men.
15 Medite estas coisas e dedique-se a elas, para que o seu progresso seja visto por todos.
16 Take tent to thi silf and to doctryn; be bisi in hem. For thou doynge these thingis, schalt `make bothe thi silf saaf, and hem that heren thee.
16 Cuide de você mesmo e da doutrina. Continue nestes deveres, porque, fazendo assim, você salvará tanto a si mesmo como aos que o ouvem.
