1 Therfor Y biseche first of alle thingis, that bisechingis, preieris, axyngis, doyngis of thankyngis, ben maad for alle men,
1 Antes de tudo, recomendo que se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ação de graças por todos os homens;
2 for kingis and alle that ben set in hiynesse, that we leden a quyet and a pesible lijf, in al pite and chastite.
2 pelos reis e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranqüila e pacífica, com toda a piedade e dignidade.
3 For this thing is good and acceptid bifor God,
3 Isso é bom e agradável perante Deus, nosso Salvador,
4 oure sauyour, that wole that alle men ben maad saaf, and that thei come to the knowyng of treuthe.
4 que deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade.
5 For o God and a mediatour is of God and of men, a man Crist Jhesus,
5 Pois há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: o homem Cristo Jesus,
6 that yaf him silf redempcioun for alle men. Whos witnessing is confermyd in his tymes;
6 o qual se entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos. Esse foi o testemunho dado em seu próprio tempo.
7 in which Y am set a prechour and an apostle. For Y seye treuthe, and Y lie not, that am a techere of hethene men in feith and in treuthe.
7 Para isso fui designado pregador e apóstolo mestre da verdadeira fé aos gentios. Digo-lhes a verdade, não minto.
8 Therfor Y wole, that men preye in al place, liftinge vp clene hondis with outen wraththe and strijf.
8 Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira e sem discussões.
9 Also wymmen in couenable abite, with schamefastnesse and sobrenesse araiynge hem silf, not in writhun heeris, ethir in gold, ethir peerlis, ethir preciouse cloth; but that that bicometh wymmen,
9 Da mesma forma quero que as mulheres se vistam modestamente, com decência e discrição, não se adornando com tranças, nem ouro, nem pérolas, nem roupas caras,
10 biheetinge pite bi good werkis.
10 mas com boas obras, como convém a mulheres que professam adorar a Deus.
11 A womman lerne in silence, with al subieccioun.
11 A mulher deve aprender em silêncio, com toda a sujeição.
12 But Y suffre not a womman to teche, nether to haue lordschip on the hosebonde, but to be in silence.
12 Não permito que a mulher ensine, nem que tenha autoridade sobre o homem. Esteja, porém, em silêncio.
13 For Adam was first formed, aftirward Eue;
13 Porque primeiro foi formado Adão, e depois Eva.
14 and Adam was not disseyued, but the womman was disseyued, in breking of the lawe.
14 E Adão não foi enganado, mas sim a mulher, que, tendo sido enganada, tornou-se transgressora.
15 But sche schal be sauyd bi generacioun of children, if sche dwellith perfitli in feith, and loue, and hoolynesse, with sobrenesse.
15 Entretanto, a mulher será salva dando à luz filhos — se elas permanecerem na fé, no amor e na santidade, com bom senso.
