1 If then I can appeal to you as the followers of Christ, if there is any persuasive power in love and any common sharing of the Spirit, or if you have any tender-heartedness and compassion, make my joy complete by being of one mind,
1 Por estarem unidos com Cristo, vocês são fortes, o amor dele os anima, e vocês participam do Espírito de Deus. E também são bondosos e misericordiosos uns com os outros.
2 united by mutual love, with harmony of feeling giving your minds to one and the same object.
2 Então peço que me deem a grande satisfação de viverem em harmonia, tendo um mesmo amor e sendo unidos de alma e mente.
3 Do nothing in a spirit of factiousness or of vainglory, but, with true humility, let every one regard the rest as being of more account than himself;
3 Não façam nada por interesse pessoal ou por desejos tolos de receber elogios; mas sejam humildes e considerem os outros superiores a vocês mesmos.
4 each fixing his attention, not simply on his own interests, but on those of others also.
4 Que ninguém procure somente os seus próprios interesses, mas também os dos outros.
5 Let the same disposition be in you which was in Christ Jesus.
5 Tenham entre vocês o mesmo modo de pensar que Cristo Jesus tinha:
6 Although from the beginning He had the nature of God He did not reckon His equality with God a treasure to be tightly grasped.
6 Ele tinha a natureza de Deus, mas não tentou ficar igual a Deus.
7 Nay, He stripped Himself of His glory, and took on Him the nature of a bondservant by becoming a man like other men.
7 Pelo contrário, ele abriu mão de tudo o que era seu e tomou a natureza de tornando-se assim igual aos seres humanos. E, vivendo a vida comum de um ser humano,
8 And being recognized as truly human, He humbled Himself and even stooped to die; yes, to die on a cross.
8 ele foi humilde e obedeceu a Deus até a morte — morte de cruz.
9 It is in consequence of this that God has also so highly exalted Him, and has conferred on Him the Name which is supreme above every other,
9 Por isso Deus deu a Jesus a mais alta honra e pôs nele o nome que é o mais importante de todos os nomes,
10 in order that in the Name of JESUS every knee should bow, of beings in Heaven, of those on the earth, and of those in the underworld,
10 para que, em homenagem ao nome de Jesus, todas as criaturas no céu, na terra e no caiam de joelhos
11 and that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of God the Father.
11 e declarem abertamente que Jesus Cristo é o Senhor, para a
12 Therefore, my dearly-loved friends, as I have always found you obedient, labour earnestly with fear and trembling –not merely as though I were present with you, but much more now since I am absent from you– labour earnestly, I say, to make sure of your own salvation.
12 Portanto, meus queridos amigos, vocês que me obedeceram sempre quando eu estava aí, devem me obedecer muito mais agora que estou ausente. Continuem trabalhando com respeito e temor a Deus para completar a salvação de vocês.
13 For it is God Himself whose power creates within you the desire to do His gracious will and also brings about the accomplishment of the desire.
13 Pois Deus está sempre agindo em vocês para que obedeçam à vontade dele, tanto no pensamento como nas ações.
14 Be ever on your guard against a grudging and contentious spirit,
14 Façam tudo sem queixas nem discussões
15 so that you may always prove yourselves to be blameless and spotless–irreproachable children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as heavenly lights in the world,
15 para que vocês não tenham nenhuma falha ou mancha. Sejam filhos de Deus, vivendo sem nenhuma culpa no meio de pessoas más, que não querem saber de Deus. No meio delas vocês devem brilhar como as estrelas no céu,
16 holding out to them a Message of Life. It will then be my glory on the day of Christ that I did not run my race in vain nor toil in vain.
16 entregando a elas a mensagem da vida. Se agirem assim, eu terei motivo de sentir orgulho de vocês no Dia de Cristo , pois isso mostrará que todo o meu esforço e todo o meu trabalho não foram inúteis.
17 Nay, even if my life is to be poured as a libation upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I rejoice, and I congratulate you all.
17 Talvez o meu sangue, isto é, a minha vida, seja apresentado como uma oferta junto com o sacrifício que vocês, por meio da sua fé, oferecem a Deus. Se isso acontecer, ficarei contente e me alegrarei com todos vocês.
18 And I bid you also share my gladness, and congratulate me.
18 Do mesmo modo vocês também devem ficar contentes e se alegrar comigo.
19 But, if the Lord permits it, I hope before long to send Timothy to you, that I, in turn, may be cheered by getting news of you.
19 Se for da vontade do Senhor Jesus, espero poder logo lhes enviar Timóteo para que eu fique animado quando receber notícias de vocês.
20 For I have no one likeminded with him, who will cherish a genuine care for you.
20 Pois Timóteo é o único que se preocupa com vocês como eu me preocupo e é o único que, de fato, se interessa pelo bem-estar de vocês.
21 Everybody concerns himself about his own interests, not about those of Jesus Christ.
21 Pois todos os outros se preocupam com os seus próprios interesses e não com os de Jesus Cristo.
22 But you know Timothy's approved worth–how, like a child working with his father, he has served with me in furtherance of the Good News.
22 E vocês sabem muito bem como Timóteo provou o seu valor. Ele e eu, como se fôssemos filho e pai, temos trabalhado juntos no serviço do evangelho .
23 So it is he that I hope to send as soon as ever I see how things go with me;
23 Portanto, espero enviá-lo a vocês logo que eu souber como vão ficar as coisas aqui para mim.
24 but trusting, as I do, in the Lord, I believe that I shall myself also come to you before long.
24 E, confiado no Senhor, penso que eu mesmo poderei ir logo até aí.
25 Yet I deem it important to send Epaphroditus to you now–he is my brother and comrade both in labour and in arms, and is your messenger who has ministered to my needs.
25 Também acho que é preciso enviar a vocês o nosso irmão Epafrodito, meu companheiro de trabalho e de lutas, o qual vocês enviaram para me trazer a ajuda que eu precisava.
26 I send him because he is longing to see you all and is distressed at your having heard of his illness.
26 Ele tem tido muitas saudades de todos vocês e tem andado muito preocupado por vocês terem sabido que ele estava doente.
27 For it is true that he has been ill, and was apparently at the point of death; but God had pity on him, and not only on him, but also on me, to save me from having sorrow upon sorrow.
27 De fato, ele esteve doente e quase morreu. Mas Deus teve pena dele e não somente dele, mas também de mim; e assim evitou que eu tivesse uma tristeza ainda maior.
28 I am therefore all the more eager to send him, in the hope that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have the less sorrow.
28 Por isso vou mandá-lo de volta a vocês o mais depressa possível para que vocês sintam a alegria de vê-lo novamente e para que eu não fique preocupado.
29 Receive him therefore with heartfelt Christian joy, and hold in honour men like him;
29 Portanto, recebam Epafrodito com toda a alegria, como se recebe um irmão no Senhor. Respeitem pessoas como ele,
30 because it was for the sake of Christ's work that he came so near death, hazarding, as he did, his very life in endeavouring to make good any deficiency that there might be in your gifts to me.
30 pois ele arriscou a sua vida e quase morreu por causa do trabalho de Cristo. Ele fez isso para me dar a ajuda que vocês não podiam me dar pessoalmente.
