1 I, then, the prisoner for the Master's sake, entreat you to live and act as becomes those who have received the call that you have received–
1 Portanto, como prisioneiro no Senhor, suplico-lhes que vivam de modo digno do chamado que receberam.
2 with all lowliness of mind and unselfishness, and with patience, bearing with one another lovingly, and earnestly striving to maintain,
2 Sejam sempre humildes e amáveis, tolerando pacientemente uns aos outros em amor.
3 in the uniting bond of peace, the unity given by the Spirit.
3 Façam todo o possível para se manterem unidos no Espírito, ligados pelo vínculo da paz.
4 There is but one body and but one Spirit, as also when you were called you had one and the same hope held out to you.
4 Pois há um só corpo e um só Espírito, assim como vocês foram chamados para uma só esperança.
5 There is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
5 Há um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só batismo,
6 and one God and Father of all, who rules over all, acts through all, and dwells in all.
6 um só Deus e Pai de tudo, o qual está sobre todos, em todos, e vive por meio de todos.
7 Yet to each of us individually grace was given, measured out with the munificence of Christ.
7 A cada um de nós, porém, ele concedeu uma dádiva, por meio da generosidade de Cristo.
8 For this reason Scripture says: »He re-ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, and gave gifts to men.«
8 Por isso as Escrituras dizem: “Quando ele subiu às alturas, levou muitos prisioneiros e concedeu dádivas ao povo”.
9 (Now this »re-ascended« –what does it mean but that He had first descended into the lower regions of the earth?
9 Notem que diz que “ele subiu”. Por certo, isso significa que Cristo também desceu ao mundo inferior.
10 He who descended is the same as He who ascended again far above all the Heavens in order to fill the universe.)
10 E aquele que desceu é o mesmo que subiu acima de todos os céus, a fim de encher consigo mesmo todas as coisas.
11 And He Himself appointed some to be Apostles, some to be Prophets, some to be evangelists, some to be pastors and teachers,
11 Ele designou alguns para apóstolos, outros para profetas, outros para evangelistas, outros para pastores e mestres.
12 in order fully to equip His people for the work of serving –for the building up of Christ's body–
12 Eles são responsáveis por preparar o povo santo para realizar sua obra e edificar o corpo de Cristo,
13 till we all of us arrive at oneness in faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, and at mature manhood and the stature of full-grown men in Christ.
13 até que todos alcancemos a unidade que a fé e o conhecimento do Filho de Deus produzem e amadureçamos, chegando à completa medida da estatura de Cristo.
14 So we shall no longer be babes nor shall we resemble mariners tossed on the waves and carried about with every changing wind of doctrine according to men's cleverness and unscrupulous cunning, making use of every shifting device to mislead.
14 Então não seremos mais imaturos como crianças, nem levados de um lado para outro, empurrados por qualquer vento de novos ensinamentos, e também não seremos influenciados quando nos tentarem enganar com mentiras astutas.
15 But we shall lovingly hold to the truth, and shall in all respects grow up into union with Him who is our Head, even Christ.
15 Em vez disso, falaremos a verdade em amor, tornando-nos, em todos os aspectos, cada vez mais parecidos com Cristo, que é a cabeça.
16 Dependent on Him, the whole body –its various parts closely fitting and firmly adhering to one another– grows by the aid of every contributory link, with power proportioned to the need of each individual part, so as to build itself up in a spirit of love.
16 Ele faz que todo o corpo se encaixe perfeitamente. E cada parte, ao cumprir sua função específica, ajuda as demais a crescer, para que todo o corpo se desenvolva e seja saudável em amor.
17 Therefore I warn you, and I implore you in the name of the Master, no longer to live as the Gentiles in their perverseness live,
17 Assim, eu lhes digo com a autoridade do Senhor: não vivam mais como os gentios, levados por pensamentos vazios e inúteis.
18 with darkened understandings, having by reason of the ignorance which is deep-seated in them and the insensibility of their moral nature, no share in the Life which God gives.
18 A mente deles está mergulhada na escuridão. Andam sem rumo, alienados da vida que Deus dá, pois são ignorantes e endureceram o coração para ele.
19 Such men being past feeling have abandoned themselves to impurity, greedily indulging in every kind of profligacy.
19 Tornaram-se insensíveis, vivem em função dos prazeres sensuais e praticam avidamente toda espécie de impureza.
20 But these are not the lessons which you have learned from Christ;
20 Mas não foi isso que vocês aprenderam de Cristo.
21 if at least you have heard His voice and in Him have been taught –and this is true Christian teaching–
21 Uma vez que ouviram falar de Jesus e foram ensinados sobre a verdade que vem dele,
22 to put away, in regard to your former mode of life, your original evil nature which is doomed to perish as befits its misleading impulses,
22 livrem-se de sua antiga natureza e de seu velho modo de viver, corrompido pelos desejos impuros e pelo engano.
23 and to get yourselves renewed in the temper of your minds and clothe yourselves
23 Deixem que o Espírito renove seus pensamentos e atitudes
24 with that new and better self which has been created to resemble God in the righteousness and holiness which come from the truth.
24 e revistam-se de sua nova natureza, criada para ser verdadeiramente justa e santa como Deus.
25 For this reason, laying aside falsehood, every one of you should speak the truth to his fellow man; for we are, as it were, parts of one another.
25 Portanto, abandonem a mentira e digam a verdade a seu próximo, pois somos todos parte do mesmo corpo.
26 If angry, beware of sinning. Let not your irritation last until the sun goes down;
26 E “não pequem ao permitir que a ira os controle”. Acalmem a ira antes que o sol se ponha,
27 and do not leave room for the Devil.
27 pois ela cria oportunidades para o diabo.
28 He who has been a thief must steal no more, but, instead of that, should work with his own hands in honest industry, so that he may have something of which he can give the needy a share.
28 Quem é ladrão, pare de roubar. Em vez disso, use as mãos para trabalhar com empenho e honestidade e, assim, ajudar generosamente os necessitados.
29 Let no unwholesome words ever pass your lips, but let all your words be good for benefiting others according to the need of the moment, so that they may be a means of blessing to the hearers.
29 Evitem o linguajar sujo e insultante. Que todas as suas palavras sejam boas e úteis, a fim de dar ânimo àqueles que as ouvirem.
30 And beware of grieving the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed in preparation for the day of Redemption.
30 Não entristeçam o Espírito Santo de Deus, o selo que ele colocou sobre vocês para o dia em que nos resgatará como sua propriedade.
31 Let all bitterness and all passionate feeling, all anger and loud insulting language, be unknown among you–and also every kind of malice.
31 Livrem-se de toda amargura, raiva, ira, das palavras ásperas e da calúnia, e de todo tipo de maldade.
32 On the contrary learn to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ has also forgiven you.
32 Em vez disso, sejam bondosos e tenham compaixão uns dos outros, perdoando-se como Deus os perdoou em Cristo.
