1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, asking that the Lord's Message may be spread rapidly and its glory be displayed, as it was displayed among you;
1 E, finalmente, irmãos, orai por nós, para que a palavra do Senhor tenha livre curso e seja glorificada, como também o é entre vós.
2 and that we may be delivered from wrong-headed and wicked men; for it is not everybody who has faith.
2 E para que sejamos livres de homens irracionais e maus; porque nem todos os homens possuem a fé.
3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will make you stedfast and will guard you from the Evil one.
3 Mas o Senhor é fiel, e vos confirmará e vos guardará do maligno.
4 And we have confidence in the Lord in regard to you that you are doing, and will do, what we command.
4 E confiamos quanto a vós no Senhor, que não só fazeis como fareis as coisas que vos mandamos.
5 And may the Lord guide your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.
5 E o Senhor encaminhe os vossos corações no amor de Deus e na paciente espera por Cristo.
6 But, by the authority of the Lord, we command you, brethren, to stand aloof from every brother whose life is disorderly and not in accordance with the teaching which all received from us.
6 Nós vos mandamos, irmãos, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que vos aparteis de todo irmão que anda desordenadamente e não segundo a tradição que ele recebeu de nós.
7 For you yourselves know that it is your duty to follow our example. There was no disorder in our lives among you,
7 Porque vós mesmos sabeis como convém seguir-nos, pois que não nos portamos desordenadamente entre vós,
8 nor did we eat any one's bread without paying for it, but we laboured and toiled, working hard night and day in order not to be a burden to any of you.
8 nem comemos o pão de homem algum de graça, mas com trabalho e fadiga, trabalhando noite e dia, para não sermos pesados a nenhum de vós.
9 This was not because we had not a claim upon you, but it arose from a desire to set you an example–for you to imitate us.
9 Não porque não tivéssemos tal direito, mas para vos dar em nós mesmos exemplo, para nos seguirdes.
10 For even when we were with you, we laid down this rule for you:»If a man does not choose to work, neither shall he eat.«
10 Porque, quando ainda estávamos convosco, isto vos mandamos: que, se alguém não quiser trabalhar, também não coma.
11 For we hear that there are some of you who live disorderly lives and are mere idle busybodies.
11 Porquanto ouvimos que há alguns entre vós que andam desordenadamente, não trabalhando, mas são intrometidos.
12 To persons of that sort our injunction –and our command by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ– is that they are to work quietly and eat their own honestly-earned bread.
12 A esses tais, porém, mandamos e exortamos, por nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, trabalhando com sossego, comam o seu próprio pão.
13 But you, brethren, must not grow weary in the path of duty;
13 Mas vós, irmãos, não vos canseis de fazer o bem.
14 and if any one refuses to obey these our written instructions, mark that man and hold no communication with him–so that he may be made to feel ashamed.
14 Mas, se algum homem não obedecer à nossa palavra por esta carta, notai tal homem, e não vos mistureis com ele, para que se envergonhe.
15 And yet do not regard him as an enemy, but caution him as a brother.
15 Todavia, não o considere como inimigo, mas admoestai-o como um irmão.
16 And may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every sense. The Lord be with you all.
16 Ora, o próprio Senhor da paz vos conceda a paz sempre, por todos os meios. O Senhor seja com todos vós.
17 I Paul add the greeting with my own hand, which is the credential in every letter of mine.
17 Saudação de Paulo, com minha própria mão, que é o sinal em todas as cartas; assim escrevo.
