1 You then, my child, must be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
1 Meu filho, seja forte por meio da graça que há em Cristo Jesus.
2 All that you have been taught by me in the hearing of many witnesses, you must hand on to trusty men who shall themselves, in turn, be competent to instruct others also.
2 Você me ouviu ensinar verdades confirmadas por muitas testemunhas confiáveis. Agora, ensine-as a pessoas de confiança que possam transmiti-las a outros.
3 As a good soldier of Christ Jesus accept your share of suffering.
3 Suporte comigo o sofrimento, como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.
4 Every one who serves as a soldier keeps himself from becoming entangled in the world's business–so that he may satisfy the officer who enlisted him.
4 Nenhum soldado se deixa envolver em assuntos da vida civil, pois se o fizesse não poderia agradar o oficial que o alistou.
5 And if any one takes part in an athletic contest, he gets no prize unless he obeys the rules.
5 O atleta não conquista o prêmio se não seguir as regras.
6 The harvestman who labours in the field must be the first to get a share of the crop.
6 E o lavrador que trabalha arduamente deve ser o primeiro a colher o fruto de seu esforço.
7 Mark well what I am saying: the Lord will give you discernment in everything.
7 Pense no que estou lhe dizendo. O Senhor o ajudará a entender todas essas coisas.
8 Never forget that Jesus Christ has risen from among the dead and is a descendant of David, as is declared in the Good News which I preach.
8 Lembre-se de que Jesus Cristo, descendente do rei Davi, ressuscitou dos mortos. Essas são as boas-novas que eu anuncio.
9 For preaching the Good News I suffer, and am even put in chains, as if I were a criminal: yet the word of God is not imprisoned.
9 E, por causa disso, sofro e estou preso como um criminoso. Mas a palavra de Deus não está presa.
10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of God's own people; so that they also may obtain salvation –even the salvation which is in Christ Jesus– and with it eternal glory.
10 Portanto, estou disposto a suportar qualquer coisa se isso trouxer salvação e glória eterna em Cristo Jesus para os que foram escolhidos.
11 Faithful is the saying: »If we died with Him, we shall also live with Him;
11 Esta é uma afirmação digna de confiança: “Se morrermos com ele, também com ele viveremos.
12 »If we patiently endure pain, we shall also share His Kingship;« If we disown Him, He will also disown us;
12 Se perseverarmos, com ele reinaremos. Se o negarmos, ele nos negará.
13 »And even if our faith fails, He remains true–He cannot prove false to Himself.«
13 Se formos infiéis, ele permanecerá fiel, pois não pode negar a si mesmo”.
14 Bring all this to men's remembrances, solemnly charging them in the presence of God not to waste time in wrangling about mere words, a course which is altogether unprofitable and tends only to the ruin of the hearers.
14 Lembre essas coisas a todos e ordene-lhes na presença de Deus que deixem de brigar por causa de palavras. Essas discussões são inúteis e podem causar grave prejuízo a quem as ouve.
15 Earnestly seek to commend yourself to God as a servant who, because of his straightforward dealing with the word of truth, has no reason to feel any shame.
15 Esforce-se sempre para receber a aprovação do Deus a quem você serve. Seja um bom trabalhador, que não tem de que se envergonhar e que ensina corretamente a palavra da verdade.
16 But from irreligious and frivolous talk hold aloof, for those who indulge in it will proceed from bad to worse in impiety,
16 Evite conversas tolas e profanas, que só levam a mais comportamentos mundanos.
17 and their teaching will spread like a running sore. Hymenaeus and Philetus are men of that stamp.
17 Esse tipo de conversa se espalha como câncer, a exemplo do ocorrido com Himeneu e Fileto.
18 In the matter of the truth they have gone astray, saying that the Resurrection is already past, and so they are overthrowing the faith of some.
18 Eles deixaram o caminho da verdade, afirmando que a ressurreição dos mortos já aconteceu, e com isso desviaram alguns da fé.
19 Yet God's solid foundation stands unmoved, bearing this inscription, »The Lord knows those who really belong to Him.« And this also, »Let every one who names the Name of the Lord renounce all wickedness.«
19 Mas o alicerce sólido de Deus permanece firme, com esta inscrição: “O Senhor conhece quem pertence a ele” e “Todos que pertencem ao Senhor devem se afastar do mal”.
20 Now in a great house there are not only articles of gold and silver, but also others of wood and of earthenware; and some are for specially honourable, and others for common use.
20 Numa casa grande, alguns utensílios são de ouro e de prata, e outros, de madeira e de barro. Os utensílios de mais valor são reservados para ocasiões especiais, e os de menos valor, para uso diário.
21 If therefore a man keeps himself clear of these latter, he himself will be for specially honourable use, consecrated, fit for the Master's service, and fully equipped for every good work.
21 Se você se mantiver puro, será um utensílio para fins honrosos. Sua vida será limpa, e você estará pronto para que o Senhor da casa o empregue para toda boa obra.
22 Keep a strong curb, however, on your youthful cravings; and strive for integrity, good faith, love, peace, in company with all who pray to the Lord with pure hearts.
22 Fuja de tudo que estimule as paixões da juventude. Em vez disso, busque justiça, fidelidade, amor e paz, na companhia daqueles que invocam o Senhor com coração puro.
23 But avoid foolish discussions with ignorant men, knowing –as you do– that these lead to quarrels;
23 Digo mais uma vez: não se envolva em discussões tolas e ignorantes que só servem para gerar brigas.
24 and a bondservant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be inoffensive towards all men, a skilful teacher, and patient under wrongs.
24 O servo do Senhor não deve viver brigando, mas ser amável com todos, apto a ensinar e paciente.
25 He must speak in a gentle tone when correcting the errors of opponents, in the hope that God will at last give them repentance, for them to come to a full knowledge of the truth
25 Instrua com mansidão aqueles que se opõem, na esperança de que Deus os leve ao arrependimento e, assim, conheçam a verdade.
26 and recover sober-mindedness and freedom from the Devil's snare, though they are now entrapped by him to do his will.
26 Então voltarão ao perfeito juízo e escaparão da armadilha do diabo, que os prendeu para fazerem o que ele quer.
