1 You then, my child, must be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
1 Quanto a você, meu filho, fortifique-se na graça que há em Cristo Jesus.
2 All that you have been taught by me in the hearing of many witnesses, you must hand on to trusty men who shall themselves, in turn, be competent to instruct others also.
2 E o que você ouviu de mim na presença de muitas testemunhas, isso mesmo transmita a homens fiéis, idôneos para instruir a outros.
3 As a good soldier of Christ Jesus accept your share of suffering.
3 Participe dos meus sofrimentos como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.
4 Every one who serves as a soldier keeps himself from becoming entangled in the world's business–so that he may satisfy the officer who enlisted him.
4 Nenhum soldado em serviço se envolve em negócios desta vida, porque o seu objetivo é agradar aquele que o recrutou.
5 And if any one takes part in an athletic contest, he gets no prize unless he obeys the rules.
5 Igualmente, o atleta não é coroado se não competir segundo as regras.
6 The harvestman who labours in the field must be the first to get a share of the crop.

7 Mark well what I am saying: the Lord will give you discernment in everything.

8 Never forget that Jesus Christ has risen from among the dead and is a descendant of David, as is declared in the Good News which I preach.
8 Lembre-se de Jesus Cristo, ressuscitado dentre os mortos, descendente de Davi, segundo o meu evangelho.
9 For preaching the Good News I suffer, and am even put in chains, as if I were a criminal: yet the word of God is not imprisoned.
9 É por ele que estou sofrendo até algemas, como malfeitor. Mas a palavra de Deus não está algemada.
10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of God's own people; so that they also may obtain salvation –even the salvation which is in Christ Jesus– and with it eternal glory.
10 Por esta razão, tudo suporto por causa dos eleitos, para que também eles obtenham a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus, com glória eterna.
11 Faithful is the saying: »If we died with Him, we shall also live with Him;
11 Fiel é esta palavra: “Se já morremos com ele, também viveremos com ele;
12 »If we patiently endure pain, we shall also share His Kingship;« If we disown Him, He will also disown us;
12 se perseveramos, também com ele reinaremos; se o negamos, ele, por sua vez, nos negará;
13 »And even if our faith fails, He remains true–He cannot prove false to Himself.«
13 se somos infiéis, ele permanece fiel, pois de maneira nenhuma pode negar a si mesmo.”
14 Bring all this to men's remembrances, solemnly charging them in the presence of God not to waste time in wrangling about mere words, a course which is altogether unprofitable and tends only to the ruin of the hearers.
14 Relembre a todos essas coisas, dando testemunho solene diante de Deus, para que evitem brigas a respeito de palavras, pois isso não serve para nada, a não ser para prejudicar os ouvintes.
15 Earnestly seek to commend yourself to God as a servant who, because of his straightforward dealing with the word of truth, has no reason to feel any shame.
15 Procure apresentar-se a Deus aprovado, como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, que maneja bem a palavra da verdade.
16 But from irreligious and frivolous talk hold aloof, for those who indulge in it will proceed from bad to worse in impiety,
16 Evite, igualmente, os falatórios inúteis e profanos, pois os que se entregam a isso avançarão cada vez mais na impiedade.
17 and their teaching will spread like a running sore. Hymenaeus and Philetus are men of that stamp.
17 Além disso, a linguagem deles corrói como câncer. Entre esses estão Himeneu e Fileto,
18 In the matter of the truth they have gone astray, saying that the Resurrection is already past, and so they are overthrowing the faith of some.
18 que se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição já aconteceu, e estão pervertendo alguns em sua fé.
19 Yet God's solid foundation stands unmoved, bearing this inscription, »The Lord knows those who really belong to Him.« And this also, »Let every one who names the Name of the Lord renounce all wickedness.«
19 Entretanto, o firme fundamento de Deus permanece, tendo este selo: “O Senhor conhece os que lhe pertencem.” E mais: “Afaste-se da injustiça todo aquele que professa o nome do Senhor.”
20 Now in a great house there are not only articles of gold and silver, but also others of wood and of earthenware; and some are for specially honourable, and others for common use.
20 Ora, numa grande casa não há somente utensílios de ouro e de prata; há também de madeira e de barro. Alguns, para honra; outros, porém, para desonra.
21 If therefore a man keeps himself clear of these latter, he himself will be for specially honourable use, consecrated, fit for the Master's service, and fully equipped for every good work.
21 Assim, pois, se alguém se purificar destes erros, será utensílio para honra, santificado e útil ao seu senhor, estando preparado para toda boa obra.
22 Keep a strong curb, however, on your youthful cravings; and strive for integrity, good faith, love, peace, in company with all who pray to the Lord with pure hearts.
22 Fuja das paixões da mocidade. Siga a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz com os que, de coração puro, invocam o Senhor.
23 But avoid foolish discussions with ignorant men, knowing –as you do– that these lead to quarrels;
23 Evite as discussões insensatas e absurdas, pois você sabe que elas só provocam brigas.
24 and a bondservant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be inoffensive towards all men, a skilful teacher, and patient under wrongs.
24 O servo do Senhor não deve andar metido em brigas, mas deve ser brando para com todos, apto para ensinar, paciente,
25 He must speak in a gentle tone when correcting the errors of opponents, in the hope that God will at last give them repentance, for them to come to a full knowledge of the truth
25 disciplinando com mansidão os que se opõem a ele, na expectativa de que Deus lhes conceda não só o arrependimento para conhecerem a verdade,
26 and recover sober-mindedness and freedom from the Devil's snare, though they are now entrapped by him to do his will.
26 mas também o retorno à sensatez, a fim de que se livrem dos laços do diabo, que os prendeu para fazerem o que ele quer.
