1 Peter, an Apostle of Jesus Christ: To God's own people scattered over the earth, who are living as foreigners in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Roman Asia, and Bithynia,
1 Eu, Pedro, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, escrevo esta carta aos escolhidos que vivem como estrangeiros nas províncias de Ponto, Galácia, Capadócia, Ásia e Bitínia.
2 chosen in accordance with the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, with a view to their obedience and to their being sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. May more and more grace and peace be granted to you.
2 Deus, o Pai, os conhecia de antemão e os escolheu, e o Espírito os santificou para a obediência e a purificação pelo sangue de Jesus Cristo. Que vocês tenham cada vez mais graça e paz.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in His great mercy has begotten us anew to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
3 Todo louvor seja a Deus, o Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. Por sua grande misericórdia, ele nos fez nascer de novo, por meio da ressurreição de Jesus Cristo dentre os mortos. Agora temos uma viva esperança
4 to an inheritance imperishable, undefiled and unfading, which has been reserved in Heaven for you,
4 e uma herança imperecível, pura e imaculada, que não muda nem se deteriora, guardada para vocês no céu.
5 whom God in His power is guarding through faith for a salvation that even now stands ready for unveiling at the End of the Age.
5 Por meio da fé que vocês têm, Deus os protege com seu poder até que recebam essa salvação, pronta para ser revelada nos últimos tempos.
6 Rejoice triumphantly in the prospect of this, even if now, for a short time, you are compelled to sorrow amid various trials.
6 Portanto, alegrem-se com isso, ainda que agora, por algum tempo, vocês precisem suportar muitas provações.
7 The sorrow comes in order that the testing of your faith –being more precious than that of gold, which perishes and yet is proved by fire– may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
7 Elas mostrarão que sua fé é autêntica. Como o fogo prova e purifica o ouro, assim sua fé está sendo experimentada, e ela é muito mais preciosa que o simples ouro. Isso resultará em louvor, glória e honra no dia em que Jesus Cristo for revelado.
8 Him you love, though your eyes have never looked on Him. In Him, though at present you cannot see Him, you nevertheless trust, and triumph with a joy which is unspeakable and is crowned with glory,
8 Embora nunca o tenham visto, vocês o amam. E, ainda que não o vejam agora, creem nele e se regozijam com alegria inexprimível e gloriosa,
9 while you are securing as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
9 pois estão alcançando o alvo de sua fé, a sua salvação.
10 There were Prophets who earnestly inquired about that salvation, and closely searched into it–even those who spoke beforehand of the grace which was to come to you.
10 Até mesmo os profetas queriam saber mais sobre essa salvação e investigaram a respeito, quando profetizaram acerca da graça preparada para vocês.
11 They were eager to know the time which the Spirit of Christ within them kept indicating, or the characteristics of that time, when they solemnly made known beforehand the sufferings that were to come upon Christ and the glories which would follow.
11 Buscavam descobrir a que tempo ou ocasião se referia o Espírito de Cristo, que neles estava, ao predizer o sofrimento de Cristo e sua grande glória posterior.
12 To them it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you, when they foretold the very things which have now been openly declared to you by those who, having been taught by the Holy Spirit which had been sent from Heaven, brought you the Good News. Angels long to stoop and look into these things.
12 Foi-lhes dito que suas mensagens não eram para eles, mas para vocês. E, agora, essas boas-novas lhes foram anunciadas por aqueles que pregaram pelo poder do Espírito Santo enviado do céu. É algo tão maravilhoso que até os anjos anseiam observar.
13 Therefore gird up your minds and fix your hopes calmly and unfalteringly upon the boon that is soon to be yours, at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
13 Portanto, preparem sua mente para a ação e exercitem o autocontrole. Depositem toda a sua esperança na graça que receberão quando Jesus Cristo for revelado.
14 And, since you delight in obedience, do not shape your lives by the cravings which used to dominate you in the time of your ignorance,
14 Sejam filhos obedientes. Não voltem ao seu antigo modo de viver, quando satisfaziam os próprios desejos e viviam na ignorância.
15 but –in imitation of the holy One who has called you– you also must be holy in all your habits of life.
15 Agora, porém, sejam santos em tudo que fizerem, como é santo aquele que os chamou.
16 Because it stands written, »You are to be holy, because I am holy.«
16 Pois as Escrituras dizem: “Sejam santos, porque eu sou santo”.
17 And if you address as your Father Him who judges impartially in accordance with each man's actions, then spend in fear the time of your stay here on earth,
17 Lembrem-se de que o Pai celestial, a quem vocês oram, não mostra favorecimento. Ele os julgará de acordo com suas ações. Por isso, vivam com temor durante seu tempo como residentes na terra.
18 knowing, as you do, that it was not with a ransom of perishable wealth, such as silver or gold, that you were set free from your frivolous habits of life which had been handed down to you from your forefathers,
18 Pois vocês sabem que o resgate para salvá-los do estilo de vida vazio que herdaram de seus antepassados não foi pago com simples ouro ou prata, que perdem seu valor,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ–as of an unblemished and spotless lamb.
19 mas com o sangue precioso de Cristo, o Cordeiro de Deus, sem pecado nem mancha.
20 He was pre-destined indeed to this work, even before the creation of the world, but has been plainly manifested in these last days for the sake of you who, through Him,
20 Ele foi escolhido antes da criação do mundo, mas agora, nestes últimos tempos, foi revelado por causa de vocês.
21 are faithful to God, who raised Him from among the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are resting upon God.
21 Por meio de Cristo, vocês vieram a crer em Deus. Depositam sua fé e esperança em Deus porque ele ressuscitou Cristo dos mortos e lhe deu grande glória.
22 Now that, through your obedience to the truth, you have purified your souls for cherishing sincere brotherly love, you must love another heartily and fervently.
22 Uma vez que vocês foram purificados de seus pecados quando obedeceram à verdade, tenham como alvo agora o amor fraternal sem fingimento. Amem uns aos outros sinceramente, de todo o coração.
23 For you have been begotten again by God's ever-living and enduring word from a germ not of perishable, but of imperishable life.
23 Pois vocês nasceram de novo, não para uma vida que pode ser destruída, mas para uma vida que durará para sempre, porque vem da eterna e viva palavra de Deus.
24 »All mankind resemble the herbage, and all their beauty is like its flowers. The herbage dries up, and its flowers drop off;«
24 Pois, “Os seres humanos são como o capim; sua beleza é como as flores do campo. O capim seca e as flores murcham,
25 But the word of the Lord remains for ever.« And that means the Message which has been proclaimed among you in the Good News.
25 mas a palavra do Senhor permanece para sempre”. E essa palavra é a mensagem das boas-novas que lhes foi anunciada.
