1 Peter, an Apostle of Jesus Christ: To God's own people scattered over the earth, who are living as foreigners in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Roman Asia, and Bithynia,
1 Pedro, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos eleitos que são forasteiros da Diáspora no Ponto, na Galácia, na Capadócia, na Ásia e na Bitínia,
2 chosen in accordance with the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, with a view to their obedience and to their being sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. May more and more grace and peace be granted to you.
2 eleitos, segundo a presciência de Deus Pai, em santificação do Espírito, para a obediência e a aspersão do sangue de Jesus Cristo. Que a graça e a paz lhes sejam multiplicadas.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in His great mercy has begotten us anew to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
3 Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, segundo a sua grande misericórdia, nos regenerou para uma viva esperança, mediante a ressurreição de Jesus Cristo dentre os mortos,
4 to an inheritance imperishable, undefiled and unfading, which has been reserved in Heaven for you,
4 para uma herança que não pode ser destruída, que não fica manchada, que não murcha e que está reservada nos céus para vocês,
5 whom God in His power is guarding through faith for a salvation that even now stands ready for unveiling at the End of the Age.
5 que são guardados pelo poder de Deus, mediante a fé, para a salvação preparada para ser revelada no último tempo.
6 Rejoice triumphantly in the prospect of this, even if now, for a short time, you are compelled to sorrow amid various trials.
6 Nisso vocês exultam, embora, no presente, por breve tempo, se necessário, sejam contristados por várias provações,
7 The sorrow comes in order that the testing of your faith –being more precious than that of gold, which perishes and yet is proved by fire– may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
7 para que, uma vez confirmado o valor da fé que vocês têm, muito mais preciosa do que o ouro perecível, mesmo apurado pelo fogo, resulte em louvor, glória e honra na revelação de Jesus Cristo.
8 Him you love, though your eyes have never looked on Him. In Him, though at present you cannot see Him, you nevertheless trust, and triumph with a joy which is unspeakable and is crowned with glory,
8 Mesmo sem tê-lo visto vocês o amam. Mesmo não o vendo agora, mas crendo nele, exultam com uma alegria indescritível e cheia de glória,
9 while you are securing as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
9 obtendo o alvo dessa fé: a salvação da alma.
10 There were Prophets who earnestly inquired about that salvation, and closely searched into it–even those who spoke beforehand of the grace which was to come to you.
10 Foi a respeito desta salvação que os profetas indagaram e investigaram. Eles profetizaram a respeito da graça destinada a vocês,
11 They were eager to know the time which the Spirit of Christ within them kept indicating, or the characteristics of that time, when they solemnly made known beforehand the sufferings that were to come upon Christ and the glories which would follow.
11 investigando qual a ocasião ou quais as circunstâncias oportunas que eram indicadas pelo Espírito de Cristo, que neles estava, ao predizer os sofrimentos que Cristo teria de suportar e as glórias que viriam depois desses sofrimentos.
12 To them it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you, when they foretold the very things which have now been openly declared to you by those who, having been taught by the Holy Spirit which had been sent from Heaven, brought you the Good News. Angels long to stoop and look into these things.
12 A eles foi revelado que, não para si mesmos, mas para vocês, ministravam as coisas que, agora, foram anunciadas a vocês por aqueles que, pelo Espírito Santo enviado do céu, lhes pregaram o evangelho, coisas essas que anjos desejam contemplar.
13 Therefore gird up your minds and fix your hopes calmly and unfalteringly upon the boon that is soon to be yours, at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
13 Por isso, preparando o seu entendimento, sejam sóbrios e esperem inteiramente na graça que lhes está sendo trazida na revelação de Jesus Cristo.
14 And, since you delight in obedience, do not shape your lives by the cravings which used to dominate you in the time of your ignorance,
14 Como filhos obedientes, não vivam conforme as paixões que vocês tinham anteriormente, quando ainda estavam na ignorância.
15 but –in imitation of the holy One who has called you– you also must be holy in all your habits of life.
15 Pelo contrário, assim como é santo aquele que os chamou, sejam santos vocês também em tudo o que fizerem,
16 Because it stands written, »You are to be holy, because I am holy.«
16 porque está escrito: “Sejam santos, porque eu sou santo.”
17 And if you address as your Father Him who judges impartially in accordance with each man's actions, then spend in fear the time of your stay here on earth,
17 E, se vocês invocam como Pai aquele que, sem parcialidade, julga segundo as obras de cada um, vivam em temor durante o tempo da peregrinação de vocês,
18 knowing, as you do, that it was not with a ransom of perishable wealth, such as silver or gold, that you were set free from your frivolous habits of life which had been handed down to you from your forefathers,
18 sabendo que não foi mediante coisas perecíveis, como prata ou ouro, que vocês foram resgatados da vida inútil que seus pais lhes legaram,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ–as of an unblemished and spotless lamb.
19 mas pelo precioso sangue de Cristo, como de um cordeiro sem defeito e sem mácula.
20 He was pre-destined indeed to this work, even before the creation of the world, but has been plainly manifested in these last days for the sake of you who, through Him,
20 Ele foi conhecido antes da fundação do mundo, mas foi manifestado nestes últimos tempos, em favor de vocês.
21 are faithful to God, who raised Him from among the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are resting upon God.
21 Por meio dele, vocês creem em Deus, o qual o ressuscitou dentre os mortos e lhe deu glória, para que a fé e a esperança de vocês estejam em Deus.
22 Now that, through your obedience to the truth, you have purified your souls for cherishing sincere brotherly love, you must love another heartily and fervently.
22 Tendo purificado a alma pela obediência à verdade, e com vistas ao amor fraternal não fingido, amem intensamente uns aos outros de coração puro.
23 For you have been begotten again by God's ever-living and enduring word from a germ not of perishable, but of imperishable life.
23 Porque vocês foram regenerados não de semente corruptível, mas de semente incorruptível, mediante a palavra de Deus, a qual vive e é permanente.
24 »All mankind resemble the herbage, and all their beauty is like its flowers. The herbage dries up, and its flowers drop off;«
24 Porque “toda a humanidade é como a erva do campo, e toda a sua glória é como a flor da erva. A erva seca, e a flor cai;
25 But the word of the Lord remains for ever.« And that means the Message which has been proclaimed among you in the Good News.
25 mas a palavra do Senhor permanece para sempre.” Esta palavra é o evangelho que foi anunciado a vocês.
