1 My son, keep my words, And lay up my commandments with you.
1 Filho meu, guarda as minhas palavras e esconde dentro de ti os meus mandamentos.
2 Keep my commandments and live; And my law as the apple of your eye.
2 Guarda os meus mandamentos e vive; e a minha lei, como a menina dos teus olhos.
3 Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.
3 Ata-os aos teus dedos, escreve-os na tábua do teu coração.
4 Say to wisdom, You are my sister; And call understanding [your] kinswoman:
4 Dize à Sabedoria: Tu és minha irmã; e à prudência chama tua parenta;
5 That they may keep you from the strange woman, From the foreigner who flatters with her words.
5 para te guardarem da mulher alheia, da estranha que lisonjeia com as suas palavras.
6 For at the window of my house I looked forth through my lattice;
6 Porque da janela da minha casa, por minhas grades olhando eu,
7 And I saw among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding,
7 vi entre os simples, descobri entre os jovens, um jovem falto de juízo,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; And he went the way to her house,
8 que passava pela rua junto à sua esquina e seguia o caminho da sua casa,
9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day, In the middle of the night and in the darkness.
9 no crepúsculo, à tarde do dia, na escuridão e trevas da noite.
10 And, look, there met him a woman With the attire of a prostitute, and wily of heart.
10 E eis que uma mulher lhe saiu ao encontro, com enfeites de prostituta e astuto coração.
11 She is clamorous and willful; Her feet do not stay in her house:
11 Esta era alvoroçadora e contenciosa, e não paravam em casa os seus pés;
12 Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places, And lies in wait at every corner.
12 ora pelas ruas, ora pelas praças, espreitando por todos os cantos,
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, [And] with an impudent face she said to him:
13 aproximou-se dele, e o beijou, e esforçou o seu rosto, e disse-lhe:
14 Sacrifices of peace-offerings are with me; This day I have paid my vows.
14 Sacrifícios pacíficos tenho comigo; hoje paguei os meus votos.
15 Therefore I came forth to meet you, Diligently to seek your face, and I have found you.
15 Por isso, saí ao teu encontro, a buscar diligentemente a tua face, e te achei.
16 I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, With striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
16 Já cobri a minha cama com cobertas de tapeçaria, com obras lavradas com linho fino do Egito;
17 I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
17 já perfumei o meu leito com mirra, aloés e canela.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; Let us solace ourselves with loves.
18 Vem, saciemo-nos de amores até pela manhã; alegremo-nos com amores.
19 For the man is not at home; He has gone on a long journey:
19 Porque o marido não está em casa, foi fazer uma jornada ao longe.
20 He has taken a bag of money with him; He will come home at the full moon.
20 Um saquitel de dinheiro levou na sua mão; só no dia marcado voltará a casa.
21 With her much fair speech she causes him to yield; With the flattering of her lips she forces him along.
21 Seduziu-o com a multidão das suas palavras, com as lisonjas dos seus lábios o persuadiu.
22 He goes after her right away, As an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as [one in] fetters to the correction of the fool;
22 E ele segue-a logo, como boi que vai ao matadouro; e, como o louco ao castigo das prisões,
23 Until an arrow strikes through his liver; As a bird hurries to the snare, And does not know that it is for his life.
23 até que a flecha lhe atravesse o fígado, como a ave que se apressa para o laço e não sabe que ele está ali contra a sua vida.
24 Now therefore, [my] sons, listen to me, And attend to the words of my mouth.
24 Agora, pois, filhos, dai-me ouvidos e estai atentos às palavras da minha boca;
25 Don't let your heart decline to her ways; Don't go astray in her paths.
25 não se desvie para os seus caminhos o teu coração, e não andes perdido nas suas veredas;
26 For she has cast down many wounded: Yes, all her slain are a mighty host.
26 porque a muitos feridos derribou; e são muitíssimos os que por ela foram mortos.
27 Her house is the way to Sheol, Going down to the chambers of death.
27 Caminhos de sepultura é a sua casa, os quais descem às câmaras da morte.
