1 When they had almost reached Jerusalem, as far as Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent on two of his disciples.
1 Jesus e seus discípulos aproximavam-se de Jerusalém e chegaram aos arredores de Betfagé e de Betânia, perto do monte das Oliveiras. Desse lugar Jesus enviou dois dos seus discípulos,
2 “Go to the village facing you,”he said; “and, as soon as you get there, you will find a foal tethered, which no one has ever ridden; untie it, and bring it.
2 dizendo-lhes: "Ide à aldeia que está defronte de vós e, logo ao entrardes nela, achareis preso um jumentinho, em que não montou ainda homem algum; desprendei-o e trazei-mo.
3 And, if anyone says to you ‘Why are you doing that?’, say ‘The Master wants it, and will be sure to send it back here at once.’”
3 E se alguém vos perguntar: Que fazeis?, dizei: O Senhor precisa dele, mas daqui a pouco o devolverá."
4 The two disciples went, and, finding a foal tethered outside a door in the street, they untied it.
4 Indo eles, acharam o jumentinho atado fora, diante duma porta, na curva do caminho. Iam-no desprendendo,
5 Some of the bystanders said to them: “What are you doing, untying the foal?”
5 quando alguns dos que ali estavam perguntaram: "Ei, que estais fazendo? Por que soltais o jumentinho?"
6 And the two disciples answered as Jesus had told them; and they allowed them to go.
6 Responderam como Jesus lhes havia ordenado; e deixaram-no levar.
7 Then they brought the foal to Jesus, and, when they had laid their cloaks on it, he seated himself on it.
7 Conduziram a Jesus o jumentinho, cobriram-no com seus mantos, e Jesus montou nele.
8 Many of the people spread their cloaks on the road, while some strewed boughs which they had cut from the fields;
8 Muitos estendiam seus mantos no caminho; outros cortavam ramos das árvores e espalhavam-nos, pelo chão.
9 and those who led the way, as well as those who followed, kept shouting: “‘God save him! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
9 Tanto os que precediam como os que iam atrás clamavam: "Hosana! Bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor!
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! ‘God save him from on high!’”
10 O Bendito o Rei?.que vai começar, o reino de Davi, nosso pai! Hosana no mais alto dos céus!"
11 Jesus entered Jerusalem, and went into the Temple Courts; and, after looking around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
11 Jesus entrou em Jerusalém e dirigiu-se ao templo. Aí lançou-os olhos para tudo o que o cercava. Depois, como já fosse tarde, voltou para Betânia com os Doze.
12 The next day, after they had left Bethany, Jesus became hungry;
12 No outro dia, ao saírem de Betãnia, Jesus teve fome.
13 and, noticing a fig-tree at a distance in leaf, he went to it to see if by any chance he could find something on it; but, on coming up to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
13 Avistou de longe uma figueira coberta de folhas e foi ver se encontrava nela algum fruto. Aproximou-se da árvore, mas só encontrou folhas pois não era tempo de figos.
14 So, addressing the tree, he exclaimed: “May no one ever again eat of your fruit!”And his disciples heard what he said.
14 E disse à figueira: "Jamais alguém coma fruto de ti!" E os discípulos ouviram esta maldição.
15 They came to Jerusalem. Jesus went into the Temple Courts, and began to drive out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers, and the seats of the pigeon-dealers,
15 Chegaram a Jerusalém e Jesus entrou no templo. E começou a expulsar os que no templo vendiam e compravam; derrubou as mesas dos trocadores de moedas e as cadeiras dos que vendiam pombas.
16 and would not allow anyone to carry anything across the Temple Courts.
16 Não consentia que ninguém transportasse algum objeto pelo templo.
17 Then he began to teach. “Does not scripture say,”he asked, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.’”
17 E ensinava-lhes nestes termos: "`Não está porventura escrito: A minha casa chamar-se-á casa de oração para todas as nações {Is 56,7}? Mas vós fizestes dela um covil de ladrões {Jr 7,11}.
18 Now the chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began to look for some way of putting Jesus to death; for they were afraid of him, since all the people were greatly impressed by his teaching.
18 Os príncipes dos sacerdotes e os escribas ouviram-no e procuravam um modo de o matar. Temiam-no, porque todo o povo se admirava da sua doutrina.
19 As soon as evening fell, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.
19 Quando já era tarde, saíram da cidade.
20 As they passed by early in the morning, they noticed that the fig-tree was withered up from the roots.
20 No dia seguinte pela manhã, ao passarem junto da figueira, viram que ela secara até a raiz.
21 Then Peter recalled what had occurred. “Look, Rabbi,” he exclaimed, “the fig-tree which you doomed is withered up!”
21 Pedro lembrou-se do que se tinha passado na véspera e disse a Jesus: "`Olha, Mestre, como secou a figueira que amaldiçoaste!"
22 “Have faith in God!”replied Jesus.
22 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: "Tende fé em Deus.
23 “I tell you that if anyone should say to this hill ‘Be lifted up and hurled into the sea!’, without ever a doubt in his mind, but in the faith that what he says will be done, he would find that it would be.
23 Em verdade vos declaro: todo o que disser a este monte: Levanta-te e lança-te ao mar, se não duvidar no seu coração, mas acreditar que sucederá tudo o que disser, obterá esse milagre.
24 And therefore I say to you ‘Have faith that whatever you ask for in prayer is already granted you, and you will find that it will be.’
24 Por isso vos digo: tudo o que pedirdes na oração, crede que o tendes recebido, e ser-vos-á dado.
25 ‘And, whenever you stand up to pray, forgive any grievance that you have against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven also may forgive you your offenses.”
25 E quando vos puserdes de pé para orar, perdoai, se tiverdes algum ressentimento contra alguém, para que também vosso Pai, que está nos céus, vos perdoe os vossos pecados. {
26 — ausente —
26 Mas se não perdoardes, tampouco vosso Pai que está nos céus vos perdoará os vossos pecados.}"
27 They came to Jerusalem again. While Jesus was walking about in the Temple Courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the councillors came up to him.
27 Jesus e seus discípulos voltaram outra vez a Jerusalém. E andando Jesus pelo templo, acercaram-se dele os príncipes dos sacerdotes, os escribas e os anciãos,
28 “What authority have you to do these things?” they said. “Who gave you the authority to do them?”
28 e perguntaram-lhe: "Com que direito fazes isto? Quem te deu autoridade para fazer essas coisas?"
29 “I will put one question to you,”said Jesus. “Answer me that, and then I will tell you what authority I have to act as I do.
29 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Também eu vos farei uma pergunta; respondei-ma, e dir-vos-ei com que direito faço essas coisas.
30 It is about John’s baptism. Was it of divine or human origin? Answer me that.”
30 O batismo de João vinha do céu ou dos homens? Respondei-me."
31 They began arguing together; “If we say ‘divine,’ he will say ‘Why then did not you believe him?’
31 E discorriam lá consigo: "Se dissermos: Do céu, ele dirá: Por que razão, pois, não crestes nele?
32 Yet can we say ‘human’?” — They were afraid of the people, for everyone regarded John as undoubtedly a prophet.
32 Se, ao contrário, dissermos: Dos homens, tememos o povo." Com efeito, tinham medo do povo, porque todos julgavam ser João deveras um profeta.
33 So their answer to Jesus was — “We do not know.” “Then I,”replied Jesus, “refuse to tell you what authority I have to do these things.”
33 Responderam a Jesus: "Não o sabemos." "E eu tampouco vos direi, disse Jesus, com que direito faço estas coisas."
