1 Since, therefore, you were raised to life with the Christ, seek for the things that are above; for it is there that the Christ is ‘seated at the right hand of God.’
1 Então, se ressuscitastes com Cristo, buscai as coisas que são de cima, onde Cristo está assentado à direita de Deus.
2 Fix your thoughts on the things that are above, not on those that are on earth.
2 Afeiçoai-vos às coisas que são de cima e não às coisas que são da terra;
3 For you died, and your life now lies hidden, with the Christ, in God.
3 porque já estais mortos, e a vossa vida está escondida com Cristo em Deus.
4 When the Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
4 Quando Cristo, que é a nossa vida, aparecer, então, também vós aparecereis com ele em glória.
5 Therefore destroy all that is earthly in you — immorality, uncleanness, passions, evil desires, and that greed which is idolatry.
5 Mortificai, portanto, os vossos membros que estão sobre a terra: a fornicação, a impureza, a afeição desordenada, a vil concupiscência e a avareza, que é idolatria;
6 These are the things because of which the wrath of God comes,
6 pelas quais coisas vem a ira de Deus sobre os filhos da desobediência;
7 and to which you, like others, once devoted your lives, when you lived for them.
7 nas quais também andastes em outro tempo, quando vivíeis nelas.
8 You, however, must now lay aside all such things — anger, passion, malice, slander, abuse.
8 Mas agora, despojai-vos também de tudo: da ira, da cólera, da malícia, da blasfêmia, da comunicação obscena da vossa boca.
9 Never lie to one another. Get rid of your old self and its habits,
9 Não mintais uns aos outros, pois que já vos despistes do velho homem com os seus feitos,
10 and clothe yourselves with that new self, which, as it gains in knowledge, is being constantly renewed ‘in resemblance to him who made it.’
10 e vos vestistes de novo homem, que se renova para o conhecimento, segundo a imagem daquele que o criou;
11 In that new life there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all! — and in all!
11 onde não há grego nem judeu, circuncisão nem incircuncisão, bárbaro, cita, servo ou livre; mas Cristo é tudo em todos.
12 Therefore, as God’s people, consecrated and dear to him, clothe yourselves with tenderness of heart, kindliness, humility, gentleness, forbearance;
12 Revesti-vos, pois, como eleitos de Deus, santos e amados, de entranhas de misericórdia, de benignidade, humildade, mansidão, longanimidade,
13 bearing with one another, and, when there is any ground for complaint, forgiving one another freely. As the Master freely forgave you, so you must forgive one another.
13 suportando-vos uns aos outros e perdoando-vos uns aos outros, se algum homem tiver queixa contra outro; assim como Cristo vos perdoou, assim fazei vós também.
14 Over all these virtues put on love; for that is the girdle which makes all complete.
14 E, sobre todas estas coisas, revesti-vos de caridade, que é o vínculo da perfeição.
15 Let the peace that the Christ gives decide all doubts within your hearts; for you also were called to the enjoyment of peace as members of one body. And show yourselves thankful.
15 E a paz de Deus domine em vossos corações, para a qual também fostes chamados em um corpo; e sede agradecidos.
16 Let the message of the Christ be alive in your minds in all its wealth, bringing all wisdom with it. Teach and admonish one another with psalms, and hymns, and sacred songs, full of the loving kindness of God, lifting your hearts in song to him.
16 A palavra de Cristo habite em vós abundantemente, em toda a sabedoria, ensinando-vos e admoestando-vos uns aos outros, com salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais; cantando com graça em vosso coração ao Senhor.
17 And, whatever you say or do, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus; and through him offer thanksgiving to God the father.
17 E tudo quanto fizerdes por palavras ou por obras, fazei tudo em nome do Senhor Jesus, dando graças a Deus Pai por ele.
18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as befits those who belong to the Lord.
18 Esposas, sede submissas a vosso próprio marido, como convém no Senhor.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and never treat them harshly.
19 Maridos, amai as vossas mulheres e não vos irriteis contra elas.
20 children, always obey your parents; for that is pleasant to see in those who belong to the Lord.
20 Filhos, obedecei a vossos pais em todas as coisas, porque isto é agradável ao Senhor.
21 Fathers, never irritate your children, otherwise they might become disheartened.
21 Pais, não provoqueis os vossos filhos à ira, para que não sejam desencorajados.
22 Slaves, always obey your earthly masters, not only when their eyes are on you, as if you had but to please people alone, but giving them ungrudging service, in your respect for the Master.
22 Servos, obedecei em todas as coisas a vossos senhores segundo a carne, não servindo só na aparência, como para agradar aos homens, mas em simplicidade de coração, temendo a Deus.
23 Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as if working for the Master and not for people,
23 E, tudo quanto fizerdes, fazei-o de todo o coração, como ao Senhor e não aos homens,
24 since you know that it is from the Master that you will receive the inheritance which will be your reward. You are serving Christ, the Master.
24 sabendo que do Senhor recebereis a recompensa da herança, porque servis a Cristo, o Senhor.
25 Those who do wrong will reap the wrong they have done; and there will be no partiality.
25 Mas quem faz o errado, recebe pelo erro que fez; e não há acepção de pessoas.
