1 In the course of the Festival at the close of the Harvest the disciples had all met together,
1 No dia de Pentecostes, todos estavam reunidos num só lugar.
2 when suddenly there came from the heavens a noise like a strong wind rushing by; it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.
2 De repente, veio do céu um som como o de um poderoso vendaval e encheu a casa onde estavam sentados.
3 Then there appeared tongues of what seemed to be flame, separating, so that one settled on each of them;
3 Então surgiu algo semelhante a chamas ou línguas de fogo que pousaram sobre cada um deles.
4 and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with strange ‘tongues’ as the Spirit prompted their utterances.
4 Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo e começaram a falar em outras línguas, conforme o Espírito os habilitava.
5 Now there were then staying in Jerusalem religious Jews from every country in the world;
5 Naquela época, judeus devotos de todas as nações viviam em Jerusalém.
6 and, when this sound was heard, numbers of people collected, in the greatest excitement, because each of them heard the disciples speaking in his own language.
6 Quando ouviram o som das vozes, vieram correndo e ficaram espantados, pois cada um deles ouvia em seu próprio idioma.
7 They were utterly amazed, and kept asking in astonishment: “What! Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?
7 Muito admirados, exclamavam: “Como isto é possível? Estes homens são todos galileus
8 Then how is it that we each of us hear them in our own language?
8 e, no entanto, cada um de nós os ouve falar em nosso próprio idioma!
9 Some of us are Parthians, some Medes, some Elamites; and some of us live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Roman Asia,
9 Estão aqui partos, medos, elamitas, habitantes da Mesopotâmia, da Judeia, da Capadócia, do Ponto, da província da Ásia,
10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; some of us are visitors from Rome,
10 da Frígia, da Panfília, do Egito e de regiões da Líbia próximas a Cirene, visitantes de Roma
11 either Jews by birth or converts, and some are Cretans and Arabians — yet we all alike hear them speaking in our own tongues of the great things that God has done.”
11 (tanto judeus como convertidos ao judaísmo), cretenses e árabes, e todos nós ouvimos estas pessoas falarem em nossa própria língua sobre as coisas maravilhosas que Deus fez!”.
12 They were all utterly amazed and bewildered. “What does it mean?” they asked one another.
12 Admirados e perplexos, perguntavam uns aos outros: “Que significa isto?”.
13 But there were some who said with a sneer: “They have had too much new wine.”
13 Outros, porém, zombavam e diziam: “Eles estão bêbados!”.
14 Then Peter, surrounded by the eleven other apostles, stood up, and, raising his voice, addressed the crowd. “People of Judea,” he began, “and all you who are staying in Jerusalem, let me tell you what this means. Mark well my words.
14 Então Pedro deu um passo à frente com os onze apóstolos e dirigiu-se em alta voz à multidão: “Ouçam com atenção, todos vocês, povo da Judeia e habitantes de Jerusalém! Escutem o que lhes digo!
15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose; for it is only now nine in the morning! No!
15 Estas pessoas não estão bêbadas, como alguns de vocês pensam, pois são apenas nove horas da manhã.
16 This is what is spoken of in the prophet Joel —
16 Pelo contrário! O que vocês estão vendo foi predito há tempos pelo profeta Joel:
17 ‘It will come about in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour out my Spirit on all humanity; Your sons and your daughters will become prophets, Your young men will see visions, And your old men dream dreams;
17 ‘Nos últimos dias’, disse Deus, ‘derramarei meu Espírito sobre todo tipo de pessoa. Seus filhos e suas filhas profetizarão; os jovens terão visões, e os velhos terão sonhos.
18 Yes, even on the slaves — for they are mine — both men and women, I will in those days pour out my Spirit, And they will become prophets;
18 Naqueles dias, derramarei meu Espírito até mesmo sobre servos e servas, e eles profetizarão.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above, And signs on the earth below — Blood and fire and mist of smoke;
19 Farei maravilhas em cima, no céu, e sinais embaixo, na terra: sangue e fogo, e nuvens de fumaça.
20 The sun will become darkness, And the moon blood-red, Before the day of the Lord comes — that great and awful day.
20 O sol se escurecerá, e a lua se tornará vermelha como sangue, antes que chegue o grande e glorioso dia do Senhor.
21 Then will everyone who invokes the name of the Lord be saved.’
21 Mas todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo’.
22 People of Israel, listen to what I am saying. Jesus of Nazareth, a man whose mission from God to you was proved by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God showed among you through him, as you know full well —
22 “Povo de Israel, escute! Deus aprovou publicamente Jesus, o nazareno, ao realizar milagres, maravilhas e sinais por meio dele, como vocês bem sabem.
23 He, I say, in accordance with God’s definite plan and with his previous knowledge, was betrayed, and you, by the hands of lawless men, nailed him to a cross and put him to death.
23 Ele foi entregue conforme o plano preestabelecido por Deus e seu conhecimento prévio daquilo que aconteceria. Com a ajuda de gentios que desconheciam a lei, vocês o pregaram na cruz e o mataram.
24 But God released him from the pangs of death and raised him to life, it being impossible for death to retain its hold on him.
24 Mas Deus o ressuscitou, libertando-o dos horrores da morte, pois ela não pôde mantê-lo sob seu domínio.
25 Indeed he was the one David was referring to when he said — ‘I have had the Lord ever before my eyes, For he stands at my right hand, so that I should not be disquieted.
25 A respeito dele disse o rei Davi: ‘Vejo que o Senhor está sempre comigo; não serei abalado, pois ele está à minha direita.
26 Therefore my heart was cheered, and my tongue told its delight; Yes, even my body, too, will rest in hope;
26 Não é de admirar que meu coração esteja alegre e que minha língua o louve; meu corpo repousa em esperança.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to the place of death, Nor surrender me, your holy one, to undergo corruption.
27 Pois tu não deixarás minha alma entre os mortos, nem permitirás que o teu Santo apodreça no túmulo.
28 You have shown me the path to life, You will fill me with gladness in your presence.’
28 Tu me mostraste o caminho da vida, e me encherás com a alegria de tua presença’.
29 Friends, I can speak to you the more confidently about the patriarch David, because he is dead and buried, and his tomb is here among us to this very day.
29 “Irmãos, permitam-me dizer com toda convicção que o patriarca Davi não estava se referindo a si mesmo, pois ele morreu e foi sepultado, e seu túmulo ainda está aqui, entre nós.
30 David, then, prophet as he was, knowing that God ‘had solemnly sworn to him to set one of his descendants on his throne,’ looked into the future,
30 Mas ele era profeta e sabia que Deus havia prometido sob juramento que um de seus descendentes se sentaria em seu trono.
31 and referred to the resurrection of the Christ when he said that ‘he had not been abandoned to the place of death, nor had his body undergone corruption.’
31 Davi estava olhando para o futuro e falando da ressurreição do Cristo, que não foi deixado entre os mortos nem seu corpo apodreceu no túmulo.
32 It was this Jesus, whom God raised to life; and of that we are ourselves all witnesses.
32 “Foi esse Jesus que Deus ressuscitou, e todos nós somos testemunhas disso.
33 And now that he has been exalted to the right hand of God, and has received from the Father the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, he has begun to pour out that gift, as you yourselves now see and hear.
33 Ele foi exaltado ao lugar de honra, à direita de Deus. E, conforme havia prometido, o Pai lhe deu o Espírito Santo, que ele derramou sobre nós, como vocês estão vendo e ouvindo hoje.
34 It was not David who went up into heaven; for he himself says — ‘The Lord said to my master: “Sit on my right hand,
34 Pois Davi não subiu ao céu e, no entanto, disse: ‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Sente-se no lugar de honra à minha direita,
35 Until I put your enemies as a footstool under your feet.”’
35 até que eu humilhe seus inimigos e os ponha debaixo de seus pés’.
36 So let the whole nation of Israel know beyond all doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ — this Jesus whom you crucified.”
36 “Portanto, saibam com certeza todos em Israel que a esse Jesus, que vocês crucificaram, Deus fez Senhor e Cristo!”.
37 When the people heard this, they were conscience-smitten, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Friends, what can we do?”
37 As palavras partiram o coração dos que ouviam, e eles perguntaram a Pedro e aos outros apóstolos: “Irmãos, o que devemos fazer?”.
38 “Repent,” answered Peter, “and be baptized every one of you in the faith of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
38 Pedro respondeu: “Vocês devem se arrepender, para o perdão de seus pecados, e cada um deve ser batizado em nome de Jesus Cristo. Então receberão a dádiva do Espírito Santo.
39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and also for all those now far away, who may be called by the Lord our God.”
39 Essa promessa é para vocês, para seus filhos e para os que estão longe, isto é, para todos que forem chamados pelo Senhor, nosso Deus”.
40 Peter spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments and pleaded with them — “Save yourselves from the perverse spirit of this age.”
40 Pedro continuou a pregar, advertindo com insistência a seus ouvintes: “Salvem-se desta geração corrompida!”.
41 So those who accepted his teaching were baptized, and about three thousand people joined the disciples on that day alone.
41 Os que acreditaram nas palavras de Pedro foram batizados, e naquele dia houve um acréscimo de cerca de três mil pessoas.
42 They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the Common life of the church, to the breaking of the bread and to the Prayers.
42 Todos se dedicavam de coração ao ensino dos apóstolos, à comunhão, ao partir do pão e à oração.
43 A deep impression was made on everyone, and many wonders and signs were done at the hands of the apostles.
43 Havia em todos eles um profundo temor, e os apóstolos realizavam muitos sinais e maravilhas.
44 All who became believers in Christ held everything for the common use;
44 Os que criam se reuniam num só lugar e compartilhavam tudo que possuíam.
45 they sold their property and their goods, and shared the proceeds among them all, according to their individual needs.
45 Vendiam propriedades e bens e repartiam o dinheiro com os necessitados,
46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the Temple Courts, and to the breaking of bread at their homes, while they partook of their food in simple-hearted gladness, praising God, and winning the goodwill of all the people.
46 adoravam juntos no templo diariamente, reuniam-se nos lares para comer e partiam o pão com grande alegria e generosidade,
47 And the Lord daily added to their company those who were in the path of salvation.
47 sempre louvando a Deus e desfrutando a simpatia de todo o povo. E, a cada dia, o Senhor lhes acrescentava aqueles que iam sendo salvos.
