1 My son, listen to my wisdom; bow your ears to my understanding;
1 Meu filho, atende à minha sabedoria, presta atenção à minha razão,
2 So that you may keep judgment, and your lips may keep knowledge.
2 a fim de conservares o sentido das coisas e guardares a ciência em teus lábios.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drip honey, and her palate is sweeter than oil,
3 Porque os lábios da mulher alheia destilam o mel; seu paladar é mais oleoso que o azeite.
4 but afterwards, she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a sword of mouths;
4 No fim, porém, é amarga como o absinto, aguda como a espada de dois gumes.
5 her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell,
5 Seus pés se encaminham para a morte, seus passos atingem a região dos mortos.
6 lest you should meditate on the path of life, her tracks are movable, you cannot know them.
6 Longe de andarem pela vereda da vida, seus passos se extraviam, sem saber para onde.
7 Then hear me now, O sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
7 Escutai-me, pois, meus filhos, não vos aparteis das palavras de minha boca.
8 Remove your ways far from her, and do not come near to the door of her house,
8 Afasta dela teu caminho, não te aproximes da porta de sua casa,
9 lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel;
9 para que não seja entregue a outros tua fortuna e tua vida a um homem cruel;
10 that strangers not be filled with your strength, and your labors be in the house of an alien,
10 para que estranhos não se fartem de teus haveres e o fruto de teu trabalho não passe para a casa alheia;
11 and you moan when your end comes , when your flesh and muscle are eaten away;
11 para que não gemas no fim, quando forem consumidas tuas carnes e teu corpo
12 and say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction;
12 e tiveres que dizer: Por que odiei a disciplina, e meu coração desdenhou a correção?
13 and I have not bowed to the voice of my teachers, nor bowed my ears to those instructing me.
13 Por que não ouvi a voz de meus mestres, nem dei ouvido aos meus educadores?
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
14 Por pouco eu chegaria ao cúmulo da desgraça no meio da assembléia do povo.
15 Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well.
15 Bebe a água do teu poço e das correntes de tua cisterna.
16 Should your overflowing springs be scattered outside, like rivers of waters in the streets?
16 Derramar-se-ão tuas fontes por fora e teus arroios nas ruas?
17 Let them be only your own, and not to strangers with you;
17 Sejam eles para ti só, sem que os estranhos neles tomem parte.
18 let your fountains be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth;
18 Seja bendita a tua fonte! Regozija-te com a mulher de tua juventude,
19 she is a loving deer, a graceful doe; let her breasts satisfy you every time, and always be ravished in her love.
19 corça de amor, serva encantadora. Que sejas sempre embriagado com seus encantos e que seus amores te embriaguem sem cessar!
20 And my son, why will you be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace a foreigner's bosom?
20 Por que hás de te enamorar de uma alheia e abraçar o seio de uma estranha?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah, and He ponders all his tracks.
21 Pois o Senhor olha os caminhos dos homens e observa todas as suas veredas.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sin.
22 O homem será preso por suas próprias faltas e ligado com as cadeias de seu pecado.
23 He shall die without instruction, and in the greatness of his foolishness he shall go astray.
23 Perecerá por falta de correção e se desviará pelo excesso de sua loucura.
