1 Man born of woman is short of days, and full of turmoil.
1 “O ser humano, nascido de mulher, vive breve tempo, cheio de inquietação.
2 He comes forth like a flower, and withers; he also flees as a shadow, and does not stand.
2 Nasce como a flor e murcha; foge como a sombra e não permanece.
3 Also do You open Your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with You?
3 Sobre ele abres os teus olhos? E me fazes entrar em juízo contigo?
4 Who gives a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!
4 Quem poderá tirar coisa pura daquilo que é impuro? Ninguém!
5 Since his days are fixed, the number of his months is with You, and You have appointed his hounds, and he cannot pass over;
5 Visto que os dias do ser humano estão contados, o número dos seus meses está nas tuas mãos; traçaste limites além dos quais não passará.
6 look away from him, so that he may rest, till he shall enjoy his day as a hireling.
6 Desvia dele o teu olhar, para que tenha repouso, até que, como o trabalhador, tenha prazer no seu dia.”
7 For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and its shoot will not cease.
7 “Porque há esperança para a árvore, pois, mesmo cortada, voltará a brotar, e não cessarão os seus rebentos.
8 Though its root becomes old in the earth, and its stump dies in the dust,
8 Se as suas raízes envelhecerem na terra, e o seu tronco morrer no chão,
9 at the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth branches like a plant.
9 ao cheiro das águas brotará e dará ramos como a planta nova.
10 But man dies and is cut off, and man expires; and where is he?
10 Mas, se alguém morre, fica prostrado; o ser humano expira e para onde vai?”
11 As the waters go away from the sea, and a river wastes away and dries up,
11 “Como as águas do lago evaporam, e o rio se esgota e seca,
12 Even so man lies down and does not rise until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
12 assim o ser humano se deita e não se levanta; enquanto existirem os céus, não acordará, nem será despertado do seu sono.”
13 Who will grant that You would hide me in Sheol; You would conceal me until Your anger turns back; that You would set a limit for me and remember me?
13 “Quem dera me escondesses na sepultura e me ocultasses até que a tua ira passasse! Quem dera me fixasses um prazo e depois te lembrasses de mim!
14 If a man dies, will he revive? All the days of my warfare I will wait, until my change comes.
14 Quando alguém morre, será que volta a viver? Todos os dias da minha luta esperaria, até que viesse a minha mudança.
15 You shall call, and I will answer You; You shall long to the work of Your hands.
15 Tu me chamarias, e eu te responderia; terias saudades da obra das tuas mãos;
16 For now You number my steps; do You not watch over my sin?
16 e até contarias os meus passos e não levarias em conta os meus pecados.
17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and You cover over my iniquity.
17 A minha transgressão estaria selada num saco, e terias encoberto as minhas iniquidades.”
18 And surely a falling mountain crumbles away, and the rock moves out of its place.
18 “Mas como o monte que desmorona e se desfaz, e a rocha que se move do seu lugar,
19 The waters wear away stones; its outpouring washes the dust of the earth; and You cause the hope of man to perish.
19 como as águas gastam as pedras, e as cheias levam o pó da terra, assim destróis a esperança humana.
20 You overpower him forever, and He goes. You change his face and send him away.
20 Tu prevaleces para sempre contra o ser humano, e ele passa; mudas o semblante dele e o despedes.
21 His sons come to honor, and he does not know; they fail, but he does not mark it.
21 Os seus filhos recebem honras, e ele não sabe; são humilhados, e ele não percebe.
22 But his flesh is pained within him; and his soul mourns over him.
22 Ele sente as dores apenas de seu próprio corpo, e a sua alma lamenta apenas por si mesma.”
