1 And the serpent was cunning above every animal of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Is it true that God has said, You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?
1 Mas a serpente, mais sagaz que todos os animais selváticos que o Senhor Deus tinha feito, disse à mulher: É assim que Deus disse: Não comereis de toda árvore do jardim?
2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,
2 Respondeu-lhe a mulher: Do fruto das árvores do jardim podemos comer,
3 but of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.
3 mas do fruto da árvore que está no meio do jardim, disse Deus: Dele não comereis, nem tocareis nele, para que não morrais.
4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,
4 Então, a serpente disse à mulher: É certo que não morrereis.
5 for God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil.
5 Porque Deus sabe que no dia em que dele comerdes se vos abrirão os olhos e, como Deus, sereis conhecedores do bem e do mal.
6 And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and the tree was desirable to make one wise. And she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
6 Vendo a mulher que a árvore era boa para se comer, agradável aos olhos e árvore desejável para dar entendimento, tomou-lhe do fruto e comeu e deu também ao marido, e ele comeu.
7 And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed leaves of the fig tree, and made girdles for themselves.
7 Abriram-se, então, os olhos de ambos; e, percebendo que estavam nus, coseram folhas de figueira e fizeram cintas para si.
8 And they heard the sound of Jehovah God walking up and down in the garden at the breeze of the day. And the man and his wife hid themselves from the face of Jehovah God in the middle of the trees of the garden.
8 Quando ouviram a voz do Senhor Deus, que andava no jardim pela viração do dia, esconderam-se da presença do Senhor Deus, o homem e sua mulher, por entre as árvores do jardim.
9 And Jehovah God called to the man and said to him, Where are you?
9 E chamou o Senhor Deus ao homem e lhe perguntou: Onde estás?
10 And he said, I have heard Your sound in the garden, and I was afraid, for I am naked, and I hid myself.
10 Ele respondeu: Ouvi a tua voz no jardim, e, porque estava nu, tive medo, e me escondi.
11 And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?
11 Perguntou-lhe Deus: Quem te fez saber que estavas nu? Comeste da árvore de que te ordenei que não comesses?
12 And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she has given to me of the tree, and I ate.
12 Então, disse o homem: A mulher que me deste por esposa, ela me deu da árvore, e eu comi.
13 And Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
13 Disse o Senhor Deus à mulher: Que é isso que fizeste? Respondeu a mulher: A serpente me enganou, e eu comi.
14 And Jehovah God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all beasts, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
14 Então, o Senhor Deus disse à serpente: Visto que isso fizeste, maldita és entre todos os animais domésticos e o és entre todos os animais selváticos; rastejarás sobre o teu ventre e comerás pó todos os dias da tua vida.
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
15 Porei inimizade entre ti e a mulher, entre a tua descendência e o seu descendente. Este te ferirá a cabeça, e tu lhe ferirás o calcanhar.
16 He said to the woman, I will greatly increase your sorrow and your conception; you shall bear sons in sorrow, and your desire shall be toward your husband; and he shall rule over you.
16 E à mulher disse: Multiplicarei sobremodo os sofrimentos da tua gravidez; em meio de dores darás à luz filhos; o teu desejo será para o teu marido, e ele te governará.
17 And He said to the man, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree about which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat from it, the ground shall be cursed because of you; you shall eat of it in sorrow all the days of your life.
17 E a Adão disse: Visto que atendeste a voz de tua mulher e comeste da árvore que eu te ordenara não comesses, maldita é a terra por tua causa; em fadigas obterás dela o sustento durante os dias de tua vida.
18 And it shall bring forth thorns and thistles for you, and you shall eat the plant of the field.
18 Ela produzirá também cardos e abrolhos, e tu comerás a erva do campo.
19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until your return to the ground. For you have been taken out of it; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
19 No suor do rosto comerás o teu pão, até que tornes à terra, pois dela foste formado; porque tu és pó e ao pó tornarás.
20 And the man called the name of his wife, Eve; because she became the mother of all living.
20 E deu o homem o nome de Eva a sua mulher, por ser a mãe de todos os seres humanos.
21 And Jehovah God made coats of skin for the man and his wife, and clothed them.
21 Fez o Senhor Deus vestimenta de peles para Adão e sua mulher e os vestiu.
22 And Jehovah God said, Behold! The man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and also take from the Tree of Life, and eat, and live forever,
22 Então, disse o Senhor Deus: Eis que o homem se tornou como um de nós, conhecedor do bem e do mal; assim, que não estenda a mão, e tome também da árvore da vida, e coma, e viva eternamente.
23 Jehovah God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground out of which he was taken.
23 O Senhor Deus, por isso, o lançou fora do jardim do Éden, a fim de lavrar a terra de que fora tomado.
24 And He drove the man out. And He lodged the cherubs at the east of the Garden of Eden, and the flaming sword whirling around to guard the way of the Tree of Life.
24 E, expulso o homem, colocou querubins ao oriente do jardim do Éden e o refulgir de uma espada que se revolvia, para guardar o caminho da árvore da vida.
