1 “And so then, O priests, this command is for you:
1 “Ouçam, sacerdotes! Este mandamento é para vocês.
2 If you will not listen, and if you will not ⌞take it to heart⌟ to give glory to my name,” says Yahweh of hosts, “then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because ⌞you are not taking it to heart⌟.
2 Escutem-me e decidam honrar meu nome”, diz o S enhor dos Exércitos, “pois, do contrário, enviarei maldição sobre vocês. Amaldiçoarei até mesmo as bênçãos que receberem. Na verdade, já as amaldiçoei, pois vocês não levaram a sério minha advertência.
3 Look! I am going to rebuke ⌞your offspring⌟, and I will scatter offal on your faces, the offal of your religious feasts, and you will be carried to it.
3 Castigarei seus descendentes, esfregarei em seu rosto o esterco dos sacrifícios que vocês ofereceram em suas festas sagradas e os lançarei no monte de esterco.
4 “Then you will know that I have sent to you this command, that my covenant with Levi ⌞continues⌟,” says Yahweh of hosts.
4 Assim, vocês saberão que enviei este mandamento para que minha aliança com os levitas continue”, diz o S enhor dos Exércitos.
5 “My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. This required reverence, and he revered me and stood in awe ⌞before⌟ my name.
5 “O propósito de minha aliança com os levitas era dar vida e paz, e foi o que lhes dei. Para isso, era necessário que me temessem, e eles demonstraram grande temor por mim e reverência por meu nome.
6 The instruction of truth was in his mouth, and wickedness was not found on his lips. In peace and in uprightness he walked with me, and he brought back many from sin.
6 Transmitiram ao povo a verdade das leis que receberam de mim. Não mentiram nem enganaram; andaram comigo, vivendo de modo pacífico e justo, e desviaram muitos do pecado.
7 For the lips of the priest should guard knowledge, and they should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of Yahweh of hosts.
7 “As palavras do sacerdote devem guardar o conhecimento de Deus, e o povo deve buscar o sacerdote para receber instrução, pois ele é mensageiro do S enhor dos Exércitos.
8 But you, you have turned from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have ruined the covenant of Levi,” says Yahweh of hosts.
8 Mas vocês, sacerdotes, se desviaram dos caminhos de Deus. Suas instruções fizeram muitos caírem em pecado. Vocês quebraram a aliança que fiz com os levitas”, diz o S enhor dos Exércitos.
9 “And in turn I have made you despised and humbled before all the people, inasmuch as you are not keeping my way, but are ⌞favoring your own instruction⌟.”
9 “Por isso fiz que vocês fossem desprezados e humilhados diante de todo o povo, pois não me obedeceram, mas mostraram parcialidade na aplicação de minha lei.”
10 ⌞Do we not all have⌟ one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we unfaithful ⌞to one another⌟, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?
10 Não somos filhos do mesmo Pai? Não fomos todos criados pelo mesmo Deus? Então por que traímos uns aos outros e quebramos a aliança de nossos antepassados?
11 Judah has been faithless, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary of Yahweh which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
11 Judá foi infiel, e uma coisa detestável foi feita em Israel e em Jerusalém. Os homens de Judá contaminaram o santuário que o S enhor ama ao se casarem com mulheres que adoram deuses estrangeiros.
12 May Yahweh cut off from the tents of Jacob the man who does this, the one who is awake and who answers, and the one who brings an offering to Yahweh of hosts!
12 Que o S enhor elimine das casas de Israel até o último homem que fez isso e que, ainda assim, apresenta uma oferta ao S enhor dos Exércitos.
13 And this you do ⌞as well⌟: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping and with groaning, because he ⌞no longer regards the offering⌟ or accepts it with favor from your hand.
13 Há outra coisa que vocês fazem. Cobrem de lágrimas o altar do S enhor , choram e gemem porque ele não dá atenção às suas ofertas nem as aceita com prazer.
14 But you ask, “⌞For what reason⌟?” Because Yahweh stands as a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have been unfaithful, even though she is your marriage partner and ⌞your wife by covenant⌟.
14 E ainda perguntam: “Por quê?”. Porque o S enhor foi testemunha dos votos que você e sua esposa fizeram quando jovens. Mas você foi infiel, embora ela tenha continuado a ser sua companheira, a esposa à qual você fez seus votos de casamento.
15 ⌞Did not one God make them?⌟ But a remnant of the spirit is his. And what does the one God desire? An offspring of God. ⌞You must be attentive to⌟ your spirit, and you must not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.
15 Acaso o S enhor não o fez um só com sua esposa? Em corpo e em espírito vocês pertencem a ele. E o que ele quer? Dessa união, quer filhos dedicados a ele. Portanto, guardem seu coração; permaneçam fiéis à esposa de sua mocidade.
16 “For I hate divorce,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “and he who covers his clothing with violence,” says Yahweh of hosts. “⌞You must be attentive to⌟ your spirit and you must not be unfaithful.”
16 “Pois eu odeio o divórcio”, diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel. “Divorciar-se de sua esposa é cobri-la de crueldade”, diz o S enhor dos Exércitos. “Portanto, guardem seu coração; não sejam infiéis.”
17 You have wearied Yahweh with your words, but you ask, “With what have we wearied him?” You have done so ⌞when you say⌟, “Everyone who does evil is good in the ⌞sight⌟ of Yahweh, and in them he delights,” or “Where is the God of justice?”
17 Vocês cansaram o S enhor com suas palavras. “De que maneira o cansamos?”, vocês perguntam. Vocês o cansaram dizendo que todos que praticam o mal são bons aos olhos do S
