1 “And so then, O priests, this command is for you:
1 E agora, ó sacerdotes, este mandamento é para vós.
2 If you will not listen, and if you will not ⌞take it to heart⌟ to give glory to my name,” says Yahweh of hosts, “then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because ⌞you are not taking it to heart⌟.
2 Se não ouvirdes, e se não o colocardes no vosso coração, para dar glória ao meu nome, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, eu enviarei uma maldição sobre vós, e eu amaldiçoarei as vossas bênçãos; sim, já as tenho amaldiçoado, porque não o colocais em vossos corações.
3 Look! I am going to rebuke ⌞your offspring⌟, and I will scatter offal on your faces, the offal of your religious feasts, and you will be carried to it.
3 Eis que eu corromperei a vossa semente, e espalharei esterco sobre as vossas faces, até o esterco das vossas festas solenes; e alguém vos retirará com ele.
4 “Then you will know that I have sent to you this command, that my covenant with Levi ⌞continues⌟,” says Yahweh of hosts.
4 E sabereis que eu enviei este mandamento a vós, para que o meu pacto pudesse ser com Levi, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos.
5 “My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. This required reverence, and he revered me and stood in awe ⌞before⌟ my name.
5 Meu pacto com ele foi de vida e de paz, e eu lha dei pelo temor com o qual ele me temia, e temeu diante do meu nome.
6 The instruction of truth was in his mouth, and wickedness was not found on his lips. In peace and in uprightness he walked with me, and he brought back many from sin.
6 A lei da verdade estava em sua boca, e a iniquidade não se achou nos seus lábios; ele andava comigo em paz e em retidão, e desviou muitos da iniquidade.
7 For the lips of the priest should guard knowledge, and they should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of Yahweh of hosts.
7 Porque os lábios do sacerdote devem guardar o conhecimento, e eles devem buscar a lei em sua boca, porque ele é o mensageiro do SENHOR dos Exércitos.
8 But you, you have turned from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have ruined the covenant of Levi,” says Yahweh of hosts.
8 Mas vós vos desviastes do caminho; vós fizestes muitos tropeçarem na lei; tendes corrompido o pacto de Levi, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos.
9 “And in turn I have made you despised and humbled before all the people, inasmuch as you are not keeping my way, but are ⌞favoring your own instruction⌟.”
9 Portanto eu também vos tenho feito desprezíveis, e vis diante de todo o povo, visto que não guardastes os meus caminhos, mas fostes parciais na lei.
10 ⌞Do we not all have⌟ one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we unfaithful ⌞to one another⌟, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?
10 Não temos nós todos um mesmo pai? Não nos criou um mesmo Deus? Por que agimos traiçoeiramente, cada homem contra o seu irmão, profanando o pacto de nossos pais?
11 Judah has been faithless, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary of Yahweh which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
11 Judá tem agido traiçoeiramente, e uma abominação se cometeu em Israel e em Jerusalém; pois Judá tem profanado a santidade do SENHOR, a qual ele ama, e se casou com a filha de um deus estranho.
12 May Yahweh cut off from the tents of Jacob the man who does this, the one who is awake and who answers, and the one who brings an offering to Yahweh of hosts!
12 O SENHOR cortará dos tabernáculos de Jacó o homem que fizer isto, o mestre e o estudioso, e o que oferece uma oferta ao SENHOR dos Exércitos.
13 And this you do ⌞as well⌟: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping and with groaning, because he ⌞no longer regards the offering⌟ or accepts it with favor from your hand.
13 E fazeis isto novamente, cobrindo o altar do SENHOR com lágrimas, com choro e com gemidos; de tal modo que não mais considera a oferta, nem a recebe com boa vontade de tua mão.
14 But you ask, “⌞For what reason⌟?” Because Yahweh stands as a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have been unfaithful, even though she is your marriage partner and ⌞your wife by covenant⌟.
14 Ainda dizeis: Por quê? Porque o SENHOR tem sido testemunha entre ti e a esposa da tua juventude, contra a qual tens agido traiçoeiramente, sendo ela a tua companheira, e a esposa do teu pacto.
15 ⌞Did not one God make them?⌟ But a remnant of the spirit is his. And what does the one God desire? An offspring of God. ⌞You must be attentive to⌟ your spirit, and you must not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.
15 E não fez ele somente um? Ainda que ele possuísse o restante do espírito. E por que somente um? Para que ele pudesse buscar uma semente piedosa. Portanto tome cuidado com o seu espírito, e ninguém aja traiçoeiramente contra a esposa da sua juventude.
16 “For I hate divorce,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “and he who covers his clothing with violence,” says Yahweh of hosts. “⌞You must be attentive to⌟ your spirit and you must not be unfaithful.”
16 Pois o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, diz que ele odeia o repúdio, e aquele que encobre a violência com a sua roupa, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos; portanto, atentai em vosso espírito, e não ajais traiçoeiramente.
17 You have wearied Yahweh with your words, but you ask, “With what have we wearied him?” You have done so ⌞when you say⌟, “Everyone who does evil is good in the ⌞sight⌟ of Yahweh, and in them he delights,” or “Where is the God of justice?”
17 Tendes cansado o SENHOR com vossas palavras; e ainda dizeis: Em que o temos cansado? Quando vós dizeis: Todo o que faz o mal é bom à vista do SENHOR, e ele se deleita desses; ou, onde está o Deus do juízo?
