1 And the angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, “I brought you up from Egypt, and I brought you to the land that I had promised to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you.
1 E um anjo do SENHOR subiu de Gilgal para Boquim, e disse: Eu vos fiz sair da terra do Egito, e vos trouxe para a terra que jurei aos vossos pais; e eu disse: Eu jamais romperei o meu pacto convosco.
2 And as for you, do not ⌞make a covenant⌟ with the inhabitants of this land; break down their altars.’ But you did not listen to my voice. ⌞Why would you do such a thing⌟?
2 E vós não fareis pacto com os habitantes desta terra; poreis abaixo os seus altares; mas vós não obedecestes a minha voz. Por que fizestes isso?
3 Now I say, I will not drive them out from before you; they will ⌞become as thorns⌟ for you, and their gods will be a trap for you.”
3 Pelo que eu também disse: Eu não os expulsarei de diante de vós, mas eles serão como espinhos nos vossos lados, e os seus deuses serão uma armadilha para vós.
4 And as the angel of Yahweh spoke these words to all the ⌞Israelites⌟, the people ⌞wept bitterly⌟.
4 E sucedeu que, quando o anjo do SENHOR disse estas palavras para todos os filhos de Israel, o povo ergueu sua voz e chorou.
5 And they called the name of this place Bokim, and there they sacrificed to Yahweh.
5 E deram àquele lugar o nome de Boquim; e ali sacrificaram ao SENHOR.
6 And Joshua sent the people away, and the ⌞Israelites⌟ went each to their own inheritance to take possession of the land.
6 E quando Josué havia deixado o povo partir, os filhos de Israel foram, cada qual para a sua herança, para tomar posse da terra.
7 And the people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who saw all the great work Yahweh had done for Israel.
7 E o povo serviu ao SENHOR todos os dias de Josué, e todos os dias dos anciãos que viveram além de Josué, os quais haviam visto todas as grandes obras que o SENHOR fez por Israel.
8 And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, died ⌞at the age of one hundred and ten years⌟.
8 E Josué, filho de Num, o servo do SENHOR, faleceu, tendo cento e dez anos de idade.
9 They buried him within the border of his inheritance in Timnah-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim north of Mount Gaash.
9 E o sepultaram no termo da sua herança em Timnate-Heres, no monte de Efraim, no lado norte da colina de Gáas.
10 Moreover, that entire generation was gathered to their ancestors, and another generation grew up after them who did not know Yahweh or the work he had done for Israel.
10 E também toda aquela geração foi reunida aos seus pais; e eis que se levantou outra geração depois deles que não conhecia o SENHOR, tampouco as obras que ele havia feito por Israel.
11 The ⌞Israelites⌟ did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and ⌞they served⌟ the Baals.
11 E os filhos de Israel fizeram o mal à vista do SENHOR, e serviram Baalim;
12 They abandoned Yahweh the God of their ancestors, who brought them out from the land of Egypt. They ⌞followed⌟ other gods from the gods of the people who were around them; and they bowed down to them, and they provoked the anger of Yahweh.
12 e eles abandonaram o SENHOR Deus dos seus pais, que lhes tirou da terra do Egito, e seguiram outros deuses, os deuses do povo que estava ao seu redor, e se inclinaram diante deles, e provocaram a ira do SENHOR.
13 They abandoned Yahweh, and they served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
13 E eles abandonaram o SENHOR, e serviram Baal e Astarote.
14 So ⌞the anger of Yahweh was kindled⌟ against Israel, and he gave them into the hand of plunderers; and they plundered them, and he sold them into the hand of their enemies from all sides. They were unable to withstand their enemies any longer.
14 E a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel, e ele os entregou nas mãos de espoliadores que os espoliaram, e ele os vendeu às mãos dos seus inimigos ao redor, de modo que eles não conseguiram mais ficar de pé diante dos seus inimigos.
15 ⌞Whenever⌟ they went out, the hand of Yahweh was against them to harm them, just as Yahweh warned, and just as Yahweh had sworn to them. And ⌞they were very distressed⌟.
15 Onde quer que eles fossem, a mão do SENHOR era contra eles para o mal, como o SENHOR havia dito, e como o SENHOR lhes havia jurado; e eles ficavam sobremaneira aflitos.
16 Then Yahweh raised up leaders, and they delivered them from the hand of their plunderers.
16 Todavia, o SENHOR levantou juízes, que os livraram da mão daqueles que os espoliavam.
17 But they did not listen to their leaders, but lusted after other gods and bowed down to them. They turned away quickly from the way that their ancestors went, who had obeyed the commandment of Yahweh; they did not do as their ancestors.
17 E, ainda assim, eles não quiseram dar ouvidos aos seus juízes, porém se prostituíram após outros deuses, e diante deles se inclinaram; eles se desviaram rapidamente do caminho no qual andaram os seus pais, obedecendo os mandamentos do SENHOR; mas eles não fizeram assim.
18 And when Yahweh raised leaders for them, Yahweh was with the leader, and he delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the leader, for Yahweh was moved by their groaning because of their persecutors and oppressors.
18 E, quando o SENHOR lhes levantava juízes, o SENHOR era com o juiz, e os livrava da mão dos seus inimigos durante todos os dias do juiz; pois se arrependia o SENHOR diante dos seus gemidos por causa daqueles que os oprimiam e os atormentavam.
19 But when the leader died they relapsed and acted corruptly, more than their ancestors, following other gods, serving them, and bowing down to them. They would not give up their deeds or their stubborn ways.
19 E, sucedia que, quando o juiz morria, eles retornavam e se corrompiam mais do que os seus pais, ao seguirem outros deuses para servi-los, e ao se inclinarem diante deles; eles não abandonaram os seus próprios feitos, nem o seu caminho obstinado.
20 ⌞So the anger of Yahweh burned⌟ against Israel, and he said, “Because this people transgressed my covenant that I commanded their ancestors, and have not obeyed my voice,
20 E a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel; e ele disse: Porque este povo transgrediu o meu pacto, o qual ordenei aos seus pais, e não tem atentado à minha voz;
21 I will not again drive out anyone from before them from the nations that Joshua left when he died,
21 Eu, doravante, também não expulsarei de diante deles nenhuma das nações que Josué deixou quando morreu;
22 in order to test Israel whether or not they would observe the way of Yahweh, to walk in it just as their ancestors did.”
22 para que, por seu intermédio, eu possa provar a Israel, se guardará, ou não, o caminho do SENHOR para nele andar, como o guardaram os seus pais.
23 So Yahweh left those nations; he did not drive them out at once, and he did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
23 Portanto, o SENHOR deixou aquelas nações, sem as expulsar apressadamente; nem as entregou na mão de Josué.
