1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked. And behold, Esau was coming and four hundred men were with him. And he divided the children among Leah and among Rachel, and among the two of his female servants.
1 E Jacó levantando os seus olhos, olhou, e eis que vinha Esaú, e com ele quatrocentos homens. E ele dividiu seus filhos entre Lia e entre Raquel, e entre as duas servas.
2 And he put the female slaves and their children first, then Leah and her children next, then Rachel with Joseph last.
2 E ele colocou as servas e os filhos delas à frente, e Lia e seus filhos depois, e Raquel e José atrás.
3 And he himself passed on before them and bowed down to the ground seven times until he came to his brother.
3 E ele passou adiante deles, e se curvou na terra sete vezes, até chegar perto de seu irmão.
4 But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell upon his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
4 E Esaú correu para encontrá-lo, e o abraçou, e se lançou ao seu pescoço, e o beijou; e eles choraram.
5 Then Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children and said, “Who are these with you?” And he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
5 E ele levantando os seus olhos, viu as mulheres e os filhos, e disse: Quem são estes contigo? E ele disse: Os filhos que Deus graciosamente deu a teu servo.
6 Then the female servants drew near, they and their children, and they bowed down.
6 Então as servas se aproximaram, elas e seus filhos, e eles se curvaram.
7 Then Leah and her children drew near and bowed down, and afterward Joseph and Rachel drew near and they bowed down.
7 E Lia também com seus filhos se aproximaram, e se curvaram; e depois se aproximaram José e Raquel, e eles se curvaram.
8 And he said, “⌞What do you mean by⌟ all this company that I have met?” Then he said, “To find favor in the eyes of my lord.”
8 E ele disse: O que significa todo este rebanho que eu encontrei? E ele disse: Isto é para encontrar graça aos olhos de meu senhor.
9 Then Esau said, “⌞I have enough⌟ my brother; ⌞keep what you have⌟.”
9 E Esaú disse: Eu tenho o suficiente, meu irmão; guarda o que tu tens para ti mesmo.
10 And Jacob said, “No, please, if I have found favor in your eyes, you must take my gift from my hand, for then I have seen your face which is like seeing the face of God, and you have received me.
10 E Jacó disse: Não! Rogo-te, se agora encontrei graça aos teus olhos, então recebe meu presente da minha mão, porque eu vi a tua face, como se tivesse visto a face de Deus, e tu tiveste contentamento comigo.
11 Please take my gift which has been brought to you, for God has dealt graciously with me, and because ⌞I have enough⌟.” And he urged him, so he took it.
11 Toma, rogo-te, minha bênção que te trago; porque Deus agiu graciosamente comigo, e porque eu tenho o suficiente. E ele insistiu, e ele o tomou.
12 Then he said, “Let us journey and go on, and I will go ahead of you.”
12 E ele disse: Partamos, vamos, e eu irei adiante de ti.
13 But he said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and the flocks and the cattle which are nursing are a concern to me. Now if they drove them hard for a day all the flocks would die.
13 E ele lhe disse: Meu senhor sabe que os filhos são tenros, e os rebanhos e o gado com as crias estão comigo. E se os homens os afadigarem por um dia, todo o rebanho morrerá.
14 Let my lord pass on before his servant and I will move along slowly at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me, and at the pace of the children until I come to my lord in Seir.”
14 Que o meu senhor, rogo-te, passe adiante de seu servo; e eu seguirei calmamente, de acordo com o passo do gado que vai adiante de mim e conforme o passo dos meninos, até que eu alcance o meu senhor em Seir.
15 And Esau said, “Let me leave some of my people with you.” But he said, “⌞What need is there⌟? Let me find favor in the eyes of my lord.”
15 E Esaú disse: Permite-me agora deixar contigo alguns do povo que estão comigo. E ele disse: Que necessidade tem? Permite-me encontrar graça aos olhos do meu senhor.
16 So Esau turned that day on his way to Seir.
16 Assim Esaú retornou naquele dia no seu caminho para Seir.
17 But Jacob traveled on to Succoth, and he built for himself a house, and he made shelters for his livestock. Therefore he called the name of the place Succoth.
17 E Jacó viajou para Sucote, e construiu para si uma casa, e fez habitações para seu gado; por isso o nome do lugar é chamado Sucote.
18 And Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem which is in the land of Canaan, ⌞on his way⌟ from Paddan-Aram. And he camped before the city.
18 E Jacó veio a Salém, uma cidade de Siquém, que está na terra de Canaã, quando ele veio de Padã-Arã; e armou sua tenda diante da cidade.
19 And he bought a piece of land where he pitched his tent for one hundred pieces of money from the hand of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem.
19 E ele comprou uma parte de um campo, onde havia armado sua tenda, da mão dos filhos de Hamor, pai de Siquém, por cem peças de dinheiro.
20 And there he erected an altar and called it “El Elohe Israel.”
20 E ele ergueu ali um altar, e o chamou El-Elohey-Israel.
