1 Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him.
1 No segundo ano do reinado de Nabucodonosor, teve este um sonho; o seu espírito se perturbou, e passou-se-lhe o sono.
2 So the king said to call the magicians and the conjurers and the sorcerers and the ⌞astrologers⌟ to tell to the king his dreams. And they came in and they stood ⌞before⌟ the king.
2 Então, o rei mandou chamar os magos, os encantadores, os feiticeiros e os caldeus, para que declarassem ao rei quais lhe foram os sonhos; eles vieram e se apresentaram diante do rei.
3 And the king said to them, “⌞I have had a dream⌟ and my spirit is anxious to know the dream.”
3 Disse-lhes o rei: Tive um sonho, e para sabê-lo está perturbado o meu espírito.
4 And the ⌞astrologers⌟ said to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants and we will reveal the explanation.”
4 Os caldeus disseram ao rei em aramaico: Ó rei, vive eternamente! Dize o sonho a teus servos, e daremos a interpretação.
5 The king answered and said to the ⌞astrologers⌟, “The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its explanation, then you will be broken into pieces and your houses will be laid in ruins.
5 Respondeu o rei e disse aos caldeus: Uma coisa é certa: se não me fizerdes saber o sonho e a sua interpretação, sereis despedaçados, e as vossas casas serão feitas monturo;
6 But if you tell me the dream and its explanation, you will receive gifts and rewards and great honor from me. Therefore, tell me the dream and its explanation.”
6 mas, se me declarardes o sonho e a sua interpretação, recebereis de mim dádivas, prêmios e grandes honras; portanto, declarai-me o sonho e a sua interpretação.
7 They answered once more and said, “Let the king tell the dream to his servants and we will make the explanation known.”
7 Responderam segunda vez e disseram: Diga o rei o sonho a seus servos, e lhe daremos a interpretação.
8 The king answered and said, “⌞Certainly⌟ I know that ⌞you are trying to gain time⌟ ⌞because⌟ you have seen ⌞that this matter is firmly decreed by me⌟,
8 Tornou o rei e disse: Bem percebo que quereis ganhar tempo, porque vedes que o que eu disse está resolvido,
9 for if you do not make the dream known to me, ⌞your verdict is fixed⌟, and you have conspired to say a lying and deceitful word to me until the ⌞circumstances⌟ will change. Therefore, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can tell me its explanation.”
9 isto é: se não me fazeis saber o sonho, uma só sentença será a vossa; pois combinastes palavras mentirosas e perversas para as proferirdes na minha presença, até que se mude a situação; portanto, dizei-me o sonho, e saberei que me podeis dar-lhe a interpretação.
10 The ⌞astrologers⌟ answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth that is able to reveal the word of the king; ⌞in fact⌟, no great and powerful king has ever asked a thing like this of any magician or conjurer or ⌞astrologer⌟.
10 Responderam os caldeus na presença do rei e disseram: Não há mortal sobre a terra que possa revelar o que o rei exige; pois jamais houve rei, por grande e poderoso que tivesse sido, que exigisse semelhante coisa de algum mago, encantador ou caldeu.
11 And the thing that the king is asking is too difficult and ⌞there is no one who⌟ can reveal it to the king except the gods ⌞whose dwelling is not with mortals⌟.”
11 A coisa que o rei exige é difícil, e ninguém há que a possa revelar diante do rei, senão os deuses, e estes não moram com os homens.
12 Because of this the king became angry, and he became very much enraged, and he said that all the wise men of Babylon are to be destroyed.
12 Então, o rei muito se irou e enfureceu; e ordenou que matassem a todos os sábios da Babilônia.
13 And the decree was issued, and the wise men ⌞were on the verge of being executed⌟, and they searched for Daniel and his companions to be executed.
13 Saiu o decreto, segundo o qual deviam ser mortos os sábios; e buscaram a Daniel e aos seus companheiros, para que fossem mortos.
14 Then Daniel responded prudently and discretely to Arioch, the commander of the imperial guard of the king, who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon.
14 Então, Daniel falou, avisada e prudentemente, a Arioque, chefe da guarda do rei, que tinha saído para matar os sábios da Babilônia.
15 ⌞He asked⌟ and said to Arioch, the royal official of the king, “⌞Why⌟ is the decree from the king so severe?” Then Arioch explained the matter to Daniel.
15 E disse a Arioque, encarregado do rei: Por que é tão severo o mandado do rei? Então, Arioque explicou o caso a Daniel.
16 And Daniel went in and requested from the king that he would give him time, and ⌞he would tell the king⌟ the explanation.
16 Foi Daniel ter com o rei e lhe pediu designasse o tempo, e ele revelaria ao rei a interpretação.
17 Then Daniel went to his home, and he made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, his companions,
17 Então, Daniel foi para casa e fez saber o caso a Hananias, Misael e Azarias, seus companheiros,
18 and told them to seek mercy ⌞from the God of heaven⌟ concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions, along with the remainder of the wise men of Babylon, would not be killed.
18 para que pedissem misericórdia ao Deus do céu sobre este mistério, a fim de que Daniel e seus companheiros não perecessem com o resto dos sábios da Babilônia.
19 Then in a vision of the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel; then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
19 Então, foi revelado o mistério a Daniel numa visão de noite; Daniel bendisse o Deus do céu.
20 Daniel ⌞said⌟: “Let his name, the name of God, be blessed ⌞throughout the ages⌟, for the wisdom and the power ⌞are his⌟.
20 Disse Daniel: Seja bendito o nome de Deus, de eternidade a eternidade, porque dele é a sabedoria e o poder;
21 And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men who know understanding.
21 é ele quem muda o tempo e as estações, remove reis e estabelece reis; ele dá sabedoria aos sábios e entendimento aos inteligentes.
22 He reveals the deep and the hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
22 Ele revela o profundo e o escondido; conhece o que está em trevas, e com ele mora a luz.
23 To you, O God of my ancestors, I give thanks and I give praises, for the wisdom and the power you gave to me, and now you have made known to me what we have asked from you, for you have made known to us the matter of the king.”
23 A ti, ó Deus de meus pais, eu te rendo graças e te louvo, porque me deste sabedoria e poder; e, agora, me fizeste saber o que te pedimos, porque nos fizeste saber este caso do rei.
24 ⌞Therefore⌟ Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and thus he said to him: “You must not destroy the wise men of Babylon; take me in before the king and I will give the explanation to the king.”
24 Por isso, Daniel foi ter com Arioque, ao qual o rei tinha constituído para exterminar os sábios da Babilônia; entrou e lhe disse: Não mates os sábios da Babilônia; introduze-me na presença do rei, e revelarei ao rei a interpretação.
25 Then Arioch ⌞quickly⌟ brought Daniel in before the king and thus he said to him: “I have found a man among ⌞the exiles⌟ of Judah who ⌞can relate⌟ the explanation to the king.
25 Então, Arioque depressa introduziu Daniel na presença do rei e lhe disse: Achei um dentre os filhos dos cativos de Judá, o qual revelará ao rei a interpretação.
26 ⌞The king then asked⌟ and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its explanation?”
26 Respondeu o rei e disse a Daniel, cujo nome era Beltessazar: Podes tu fazer-me saber o que vi no sonho e a sua interpretação?
27 Daniel answered the king and said, “The mystery that the king asks, no wise men, conjurers, magicians, or diviners are able to make known to the king.
27 Respondeu Daniel na presença do rei e disse: O mistério que o rei exige, nem encantadores, nem magos nem astrólogos o podem revelar ao rei;
28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed.
28 mas há um Deus no céu, o qual revela os mistérios, pois fez saber ao rei Nabucodonosor o que há de ser nos últimos dias. O teu sonho e as visões da tua cabeça, quando estavas no teu leito, são estas:
29 “As for you, king, your thoughts on your bed ⌞turned to⌟ what it was that would be ⌞in the future⌟, and the revealer of mysteries has made known to you what that would be.
29 Estando tu, ó rei, no teu leito, surgiram-te pensamentos a respeito do que há de ser depois disto. Aquele, pois, que revela mistérios te revelou o que há de ser.
30 And as for me, it is not because of wisdom that is in me more than ⌞any other living person⌟ that this mystery is revealed to me, but ⌞in order that⌟ the explanation may be made known to the king and you will ⌞understand⌟ the thoughts of your ⌞mind⌟.
30 E a mim me foi revelado este mistério, não porque haja em mim mais sabedoria do que em todos os viventes, mas para que a interpretação se fizesse saber ao rei, e para que entendesses as cogitações da tua mente.
31 “You, O king, were looking and, look, there was one great statue. This statue was huge and its brilliance extraordinary, standing there before you, and its appearance was frightening.
31 Tu, ó rei, estavas vendo, e eis aqui uma grande estátua; esta, que era imensa e de extraordinário esplendor, estava em pé diante de ti; e a sua aparência era terrível.
32 The head of this statue was of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,
32 A cabeça era de fino ouro, o peito e os braços, de prata, o ventre e os quadris, de bronze;
33 its legs of iron, its feet, part of them of iron and part of them of clay.
33 as pernas, de ferro, os pés, em parte, de ferro, em parte, de barro.
34 You were looking on ⌞until⌟ a stone was chiseled out—that not by hands—and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and it broke them in pieces.
34 Quando estavas olhando, uma pedra foi cortada sem auxílio de mãos, feriu a estátua nos pés de ferro e de barro e os esmiuçou.
35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold ⌞all at once⌟ broke into pieces and they became like chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away and any trace of them could not be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and it filled the whole earth.
35 Então, foi juntamente esmiuçado o ferro, o barro, o bronze, a prata e o ouro, os quais se fizeram como a palha das eiras no estio, e o vento os levou, e deles não se viram mais vestígios. Mas a pedra que feriu a estátua se tornou em grande montanha, que encheu toda a terra.
36 “This was the dream, and now we will tell its interpretation to the king.
36 Este é o sonho; e também a sua interpretação diremos ao rei.
37 You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the might and the glory,
37 Tu, ó rei, rei de reis, a quem o Deus do céu conferiu o reino, o poder, a força e a glória;
38 and also ⌞human beings wherever they dwell⌟, the animals of the field and the birds of heaven—he has given into your hand and made you ruler over all of them—you are the head of gold.
38 a cujas mãos foram entregues os filhos dos homens, onde quer que eles habitem, e os animais do campo e as aves do céu, para que dominasses sobre todos eles, tu és a cabeça de ouro.
39 And after you another kingdom inferior to yours will arise, and another third kingdom of bronze that will rule over the whole earth.
39 Depois de ti, se levantará outro reino, inferior ao teu; e um terceiro reino, de bronze, o qual terá domínio sobre toda a terra.
40 And a fourth kingdom will be strong as iron, and ⌞just as⌟ iron crushes and smashes ⌞everything⌟, and as iron shatters all of these other metals, so it will crush and it will shatter these nations.
40 O quarto reino será forte como ferro; pois o ferro a tudo quebra e esmiúça; como o ferro quebra todas as coisas, assim ele fará em pedaços e esmiuçará.
41 ⌞And just as⌟ you saw the feet and the toes, ⌞partly potter’s clay⌟ and ⌞partly iron⌟, it will be a divided kingdom; and ⌞some hardness⌟ of the iron will be in it, ⌞just as⌟ you have seen the iron mixed with the wet clay.
41 Quanto ao que viste dos pés e dos artelhos, em parte, de barro de oleiro e, em parte, de ferro, será esse um reino dividido; contudo, haverá nele alguma coisa da firmeza do ferro, pois que viste o ferro misturado com barro de lodo.
42 And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so part of the kingdom will be strong ⌞and partly brittle⌟.
42 Como os artelhos dos pés eram, em parte, de ferro e, em parte, de barro, assim, por uma parte, o reino será forte e, por outra, será frágil.
43 And in that you saw the iron was mixed with wet clay, so ⌞they will mix in marriage⌟ and they will not cling ⌞to one another⌟, just as iron does not mix with clay.
43 Quanto ao que viste do ferro misturado com barro de lodo, misturar-se-ão mediante casamento, mas não se ligarão um ao outro, assim como o ferro não se mistura com o barro.
44 And ⌞in the day of those kings⌟, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will ⌞never⌟ be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation, and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand ⌞forever⌟.
44 Mas, nos dias destes reis, o Deus do céu suscitará um reino que não será jamais destruído; este reino não passará a outro povo; esmiuçará e consumirá todos estes reinos, mas ele mesmo subsistirá para sempre,
45 ⌞Inasmuch as⌟ you saw that a stone from the mountain was chiseled out but not by hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, thereby the great God made known to the king what will be ⌞in the future⌟, and the dream is certain and its explanation trustworthy.”
45 como viste que do monte foi cortada uma pedra, sem auxílio de mãos, e ela esmiuçou o ferro, o bronze, o barro, a prata e o ouro. O Grande Deus fez saber ao rei o que há de ser futuramente. Certo é o sonho, e fiel, a sua interpretação.
46 Then the king, Nebuchadnezzar, fell on his face and he paid homage to Daniel; and he commanded them to offer a grain offering and incense offering to him.
46 Então, o rei Nabucodonosor se inclinou, e se prostrou rosto em terra perante Daniel, e ordenou que lhe fizessem oferta de manjares e suaves perfumes.
47 The king answered Daniel and said, “⌞Truly⌟ your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings, and he reveals mysteries, for you are able to reveal this mystery.”
47 Disse o rei a Daniel: Certamente, o vosso Deus é o Deus dos deuses, e o Senhor dos reis, e o revelador de mistérios, pois pudeste revelar este mistério.
48 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and the chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.
48 Então, o rei engrandeceu a Daniel, e lhe deu muitos e grandes presentes, e o pôs por governador de toda a província da Babilônia, como também o fez chefe supremo de todos os sábios da Babilônia.
49 And Daniel made a request from the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the court of the king.
49 A pedido de Daniel, constituiu o rei a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego sobre os negócios da província da Babilônia; Daniel, porém, permaneceu na corte do rei.
