1 Then Job answered by saying:
1 Respondeu, porém, Jó e disse:
2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.
2 Ainda hoje a minha queixa está em amargura; a violência da minha praga mais se agrava do que o meu gemido.
3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?
3 Ah! Se eu soubesse que o poderia achar! Então me chegaria ao seu tribunal.
4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,
4 Com boa ordem exporia ante ele a minha causa e a minha boca encheria de argumentos.
5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.
5 Saberia as palavras com que ele me responderia e entenderia o que me dissesse.
6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.
6 Porventura, segundo a grandeza de seu poder contenderia comigo? Não; antes, cuidaria de mim.
7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.
7 Ali, o reto pleitearia com ele, e eu me livraria para sempre do meu juiz.
8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.
8 Eis que, se me adianto, ali não está; se torno para trás, não o percebo.
9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.
9 Se opera à mão esquerda, não o vejo; encobre-se à mão direita, e não o diviso.
10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.
10 Mas ele sabe o meu caminho; prove-me, e sairei como o ouro.
11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.
11 Nas suas pisadas os meus pés se afirmaram; guardei o seu caminho e não me desviei dele.
12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.
12 Do preceito de seus lábios nunca me apartei e as palavras da sua boca prezei mais do que o meu alimento.
13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.
13 Mas, se ele está contra alguém, quem, então, o desviará? O que a sua alma quiser, isso fará.
14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.
14 Porque cumprirá o que está ordenado a meu respeito e muitas coisas como estas ainda tem consigo.
15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.
15 Por isso, me perturbo perante ele; e quando isto considero, temo-me dele.
16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.
16 Porque Deus macerou o meu coração, e o Todo-Poderoso me perturbou.
17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.
17 Porquanto não fui desarraigado antes das trevas, nem encobriu a escuridão o meu rosto.
