1 Alas for the city of bloodshed! All of it, deceit, of violence full, none releaseth prey!
1 Ai da cidade sanguinária, cheia de fraude e de violência, e que não põe termo à sua rapinagem!
2 The sound of the whip, and the sound of the rushing wheel,and horse galloping, and dancing chariot rattling along.
2 Ruído de chicote! Estrondo de rodas! cavalos a relinchar, carros a dançar,
3 Horsemen uplifting both the flashing sword, and the lightning spear, Aye, a mass of slain, and a weight of dead bridles,and no end of corpses, so that they stumble upon their corpses.
3 cavaleiros à brida, espadas que reluzem, lanças que cintilam, multidão de feridos, mortos em massa, cadáveres sem número, nos quais se tropeça...
4 Because of the multitude of the unchaste doings of the unchaste one, fair in grace, mistress of secret arts,who hath been selling nations by her unchaste doings, families by her secret arts,
4 Eis aí o fruto das numerosas fornicações da meretriz tão cheia de encanto, hábil feiticeira, que enganava as nações com seus atrativos, e os povos com seus sortilégios.
5 Behold me! against thee, Declareth Yahweh of hosts, Therefore will I remove thy shirts over thy face,and let, nations, see thy nakedness, and, kingdoms, thy shame;
5 Eis que venho contra ti - oráculo do Senhor dos exércitos. Vou arregaçar teu vestido até teu rosto, e mostrar tua nudez às nações, aos reinos a tua vergonha.
6 And I will cast upon thee abominable filth, and treat thee as foolish,and set thee as a gazing-stock.
6 Vou cobrir-te de imundícies para te aviltar, e te exporei como espetáculo.
7 And it shall come to pass that, all who see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say, Destroyed is Nineveh! Who will bemoan her?Whence shall I seek any to comfort thee?
7 Todos os que te virem fugirão para longe de ti, dizendo: Nínive está arruinada! Quem se apiedará de ti? Aonde te irei buscar consoladores?
8 Art thou better than No-amon, who sat among the Nile-streams, waters round about her,whose fortress was the sea, from the sea, her wall.
8 Vales porventura mais do que No-Amon, que está situada entre os braços do Nilo, cercada de água, tendo o mar por defesa, as águas por muralha?
9 Ethiopia, was her strength, and EgyptYea, without end,Put and Lubim, were among thy helpers.
9 A Etiópia era a sua força, como também o Egito, de enorme população; Fut e os líbios eram seus aliados.
10 Yet, she, was given up to exile, she went into captivity, even her babes, were dashed to the ground, at the head of all the streets,and, for her honourable men, cast they lots, and, all her great men, were bound together in chains.
10 Não obstante isso, ela foi levada cativa para o exílio; seus filhos foram esmagados nos cantos das ruas, lançaram-se sortes sobre seus nobres, e todos os seus chefes foram carregados de cadeias.
11 Thou too, shalt be drunken, thou shalt hide thyself,thou too, shalt seek shelter from the foe:
11 Também tu, em tua embriaguez, desfalecerás. Também tu procurarás um refúgio contra o inimigo.
12 All thy fortresses, shall be fig-trees with first-ripe figs: if thy be shaken, then shall fall on the mouth of the eater.
12 Todas as tuas fortalezas são como figueiras, carregadas de figos maduros: se são sacudidas, os figos caem na boca de quem os quiser comer.
13 Lo! thy people, are women, in thy midst, to thy foes, have been set wide open the gates of thy and,a fire, hath devoured, thy bars.
13 Teus guerreiros estão no meio de ti como mulheres. As portas de tua terra abrem-se por si sós ao inimigo. O fogo devorou teus ferrolhos.
14 Siege-water, draw for thyself, strengthen thy fortresses,go into the clay, and tread thou the mortar, make strong the brick.
14 Abastece-te de água para o cerco; repara tuas fortificações, amassa a argila, pisa o barro, pega na forma de tijolos.
15 There, shall a fire devour thee, the sword, shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the grass locust, make thyself numerous like the grass locust, make thyself numerous as the swarming locust:
15 Aí o fogo te devorará, a espada te exterminará; ela te devorará como o gafanhoto, ainda que fosses numeroso como o gafanhoto, e te multiplicasses como o grilo.
16 Though thou have multiplied thy foot-soldiers beyond the stars of the heavens, the grass locust, hath stript itself and flown away!
16 Teus corretores são mais numerosos que as estrelas do céu; o gafanhoto abre suas asas e voa.
17 Thy mercenary crowds, are like the swarming locust, and, thy mixed multitudes, like locustsswarms of locusts,which settle in the hedges on a cold day, the sun, hath broken forth, and they are in flight, and unknown is the place where they are!
17 Teus guardas são numerosos como os gafanhotos, e teus chefes como uma nuvem de insetos que pousam sobre as sebes num dia de frio; logo que o sol nasce, fogem, sem que se saiba para onde foram.
18 Asleep are thy shepherds, O king of Assyria, thy nobles, must needs rest. Scattered are thy people upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
18 Teus pastores dormem, ó rei de Assur, teus heróis estão inertes. Teu povo está disperso pelas montanhas sem que ninguém o ajunte.
19 No lessening of thine injury, grievous is thy wound,all who have heard the report of thee, have clapped their hands over thee, for, upon whom, hath not thy cruelty passed without ceasing?
19 Não há remédio para a tua ferida, tua chaga é incurável. Todos os que forem informados de tua sorte aplaudirão pelo que te acontece. Sobre quem, com efeito, não tem passado continuamente a tua malícia?
