¹ And, again, began he to be teaching by the sea; and there come together unto him a very great multitude, so that, he, into a boat, entering, was sitting upon the sea,-and, all the multitude, were, near the sea upon the land.

¹ Jesus pôs-se novamente a ensinar, à beira do mar, e aglomerou-se junto dele tão grande multidão, que ele teve de entrar numa barca, no mar, e toda a multidão ficou em terra na praia.

² And he began to teach them, in parables, many things, and was saying unto them, in his teaching

² E ensinava-lhes muitas coisas em parábolas. Dizia-lhes na sua doutrina:

³ Hearken! Lo! the sower went forth to sow;

³ Ouvi: Saiu o semeador a semear.

⁴ And it came to pass, as he sowed, some, indeed, fell by the pathway, and the birds came, and devoured it;

⁴ Enquanto lançava a semente, uma parte caiu à beira do caminho, e vieram as aves e a comeram.

⁵ And, some, fell on the rocky places, even where it had not much earth,and, straightway, it sprang forth, by reason of its not having depth of earth;

⁵ Outra parte caiu no pedregulho, onde não havia muita terra; o grão germinou logo, porque a terra não era profunda;

⁶ and, when the sun arose, it was scorched,and, by reason of its not having root, it was dried up;

⁶ mas, assim que o sol despontou, queimou-se e, como não tivesse raiz, secou.

⁷ And, some, fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and, fruit, it yielded not;

⁷ Outra parte caiu entre os espinhos; estes cresceram, sufocaram-na e o grão não deu fruto.

⁸ And, other, fell into the good ground, and was yielding fruit, coming up and growing,and was bearing, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold,

⁸ Outra caiu em terra boa e deu fruto, cresceu e desenvolveu-se; um grão rendeu trinta, outro sessenta e outro cem.

⁹ And he was sayingHe that hath ears to hear, let him hear!

⁹ E dizia: Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça!

¹⁰ And when he was alone they who were about him with the twelve questioned him as to the parables;

¹⁰ Quando se acharam a sós, os que o cercavam e os Doze indagaram dele o sentido da parábola.

¹¹ and he was saying unto themTo you, the sacred secret hath been given of the kingdom of God, whereas, to them who are outside, in parables are all things coming to pass,that

¹¹ Ele disse-lhes: A vós é revelado o mistério do Reino de Deus, mas aos que são de fora tudo se lhes propõe em parábolas.

¹² They may surely look and yet not see, and surely hear and yet not understand, lest once they should return and it be forgiven them.

¹² Desse modo, eles olham sem ver, escutam sem compreender, sem que se convertam e lhes seja perdoado.

¹³ And he saith unto themKnow ye not this parable? How then will ye get to know all the parables?

¹³ E acrescentou: Não entendeis essa parábola? Como entendereis então todas as outras?

¹⁴ The sower, soweth the word;

¹⁴ O semeador semeia a palavra.

¹⁵ And these are they beside the pathway where the word is sown,and, as soon as they hear, straightway, cometh Satan, and snatcheth away the word which hath been sown into them;

¹⁵ Alguns se encontram à beira do caminho, onde ela é semeada; apenas a ouvem, vem Satanás tirar a palavra neles semeada.

¹⁶ And these are likewise they upon the rocky places sown,who, as soon as they hear the word, straightway, with joy receive it,

¹⁶ Outros recebem a semente em lugares pedregosos; quando a ouvem, recebem-na com alegria;

¹⁷ and have no root in themselves, but, only for a season are,afterwards, when there ariseth tribulation or persecution by reason of the word, straightway, they find cause of stumbling;

¹⁷ mas não têm raiz em si, são inconstantes, e assim que se levanta uma tribulação ou uma perseguição por causa da palavra, eles tropeçam.

¹⁸ And others are they who among thorns are sown,these are they who hear the word,

¹⁸ Outros ainda recebem a semente entre os espinhos; ouvem a palavra,

¹⁹ and, the anxieties of the age, and the deceit of wealth, and the covetings about the remaining things, entering in, choke up the word, and, unfruitful, it becometh;

¹⁹ mas as preocupações mundanas, a ilusão das riquezas, as múltiplas cobiças sufocam-na e a tornam infrutífera.

²⁰ And those yonder are they who on the good ground are sown,who, indeed, hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruitthirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.

²⁰ Aqueles que recebem a semente em terra boa escutam a palavra, acolhem-na e dão fruto, trinta, sessenta e cem por um.

²¹ And he was saying unto themDoth the lamp come that under the measure it should be put, or under the couch? Is it not that upon the lampstand it may be put?

²¹ Dizia-lhes ainda: Traz-se porventura a candeia para ser colocada debaixo do alqueire ou debaixo da cama? Não é para ser posta no candeeiro?

²² For it is not hidden, save that it may be made visible; neither did it get hidden away, but that it might come into a place where it could be seen.

²² Porque nada há oculto que não deva ser descoberto, nada secreto que não deva ser publicado.

²³ If any one hath ears to hear, let him hear.

²³ Se alguém tem ouvidos para ouvir, que ouça.

²⁴ And he was saying unto themBe taking heed what ye are hearing:with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you, and added unto you;

²⁴ Ele prosseguiu: Atendei ao que ouvis: com a medida com que medirdes, vos medirão a vós, e ainda se vos acrescentará.

²⁵ For, he that hath, it shall be given, unto him, and, he that hath not, even what he hath, shall be taken from him.

²⁵ Pois, ao que tem, se lhe dará; e ao que não tem, se lhe tirará até o que tem.

²⁶ And he was sayingThus, is the kingdom of God: As a man may cast seed upon the earth,

²⁶ Dizia também: O Reino de Deus é como um homem que lança a semente à terra.

²⁷ and be sleeping and rising, night and day,and the seed be sprouting, and lengthening itself,how, he, knoweth not:

²⁷ Dorme, levanta-se, de noite e de dia, e a semente brota e cresce, sem ele o perceber.

²⁸ of itself, the earth beareth fruit,first, a blade, afterwards, an ear, after that, full corn in the ear;

²⁸ Pois a terra por si mesma produz, primeiro a planta, depois a espiga e, por último, o grão abundante na espiga.

²⁹ but, as soon as the fruit yieldeth itself up, straightway, he sendeth forth the sickle, because standing by is the harvest.

²⁹ Quando o fruto amadurece, ele mete-lhe a foice, porque é chegada a colheita.

³⁰ And he was sayingHow shall we liken the kingdom of God, or, in what parable, shall we put it?

³⁰ Dizia ele: A quem compararemos o Reino de Deus? Ou com que parábola o representaremos?

³¹ As a grain of mustard seed,which, whensoever it may be sown upon the earth, is less than all the seeds that are upon the earth;

³¹ É como o grão de mostarda que, quando é semeado, é a menor de todas as sementes.

³² and, as soon as it is sown, springeth up, and becometh greater than all garden plants, and produceth large branches, so that, under the shade thereof, the birds of heaven can find shelter.

³² Mas, depois de semeado, cresce, torna-se maior que todas as hortaliças e estende de tal modo os seus ramos, que as aves do céu podem abrigar-se à sua sombra.

³³ And, with many such parables as these, was he speaking unto them the word,according as they were able to hear;

³³ Era por meio de numerosas parábolas desse gênero que ele lhes anunciava a palavra, conforme eram capazes de compreender.

³⁴ but, without a parable, was he not speaking unto them,privately, however, unto his own disciples, was he explaining all things.

³⁴ E não lhes falava, a não ser em parábolas; a sós, porém, explicava tudo a seus discípulos.

³⁵ And he saith unto them, on that day, when evening came, Let us cross over unto the other side;

³⁵ À tarde daquele dia, disse-lhes: Passemos para o outro lado.

³⁶ and, dismissing the multitude, they take him with them, as he was, in the boat, and, other boats, were with him.

³⁶ Deixando o povo, levaram-no consigo na barca, assim como ele estava. Outras embarcações o escoltavam.

³⁷ And there ariseth a great tempest of wind,and, the waves, were dashing over into the boat, so that, already being filled, was the boat.

³⁷ Nisto surgiu uma grande tormenta e lançava as ondas dentro da barca, de modo que ela já se enchia de água.

³⁸ And he was in the stern, on the cushion, sleeping. And they arouse him, and say unto him, Teacher! carest thou not that we perish?

³⁸ Jesus achava-se na popa, dormindo sobre um travesseiro. Eles acordaram-no e disseram-lhe: Mestre, não te importa que pereçamos?

³⁹ And, roused up, he rebuked the wind, and said unto the seaHush! be still! and the wind lulled, and it became a great calm.

³⁹ E ele, despertando, repreendeu o vento e disse ao mar: Silêncio! Cala-te! E cessou o vento e seguiu-se grande bonança.

⁴⁰ And he said unto themWhy, are ye, fearful? Not yet, have ye faith?

⁴⁰ Ele disse-lhes: Como sois medrosos! Ainda não tendes fé?

⁴¹ And they were caused to fear a great fear, and were saying one to anotherWho then is, this, that, both the wind and the sea, give ear unto him?

⁴¹ Eles ficaram penetrados de grande temor e cochichavam entre si: Quem é este, a quem até o vento e o mar obedecem?
